Breast cancer kills more than 40,000 Americans each year, but the disease can be cured if found and treated early. Since 1974, the St. John Breast Center has provided women with a wide array of cancer educational materials and emotional support.
St. John was the first in Tulsa to offer all digital mammography. This state-of-the-art technology offers advantages to patients and physicians alike, with shorter exam times and images that can display breast abnormalities at an earlier stage.
Beyond digital mammography, our comprehensive center offers breast ultrasound, biopsies and bone density scans. Traditional and new minimally-invasive biopsy options are available.
Free breast self-examination instruction is also available. Monthly breast self-examination is a life-saving routine that allows women to detect breast changes early and seek medical intervention.
All women are at risk for developing breast cancer, but some factors can increase your likelihood of developing the disease. Risk factors include a family history of cancer, a long menstrual life (early onset of menstruation and late menopause), not bearing children or having a first child after age 30 and chronic benign breast problems. Having any or all of these risk factors does not mean you will develop breast cancer; however, women should be aware of their status and alert for early signs of disease.
