Pretty Good 5/17/2007

Good atmosphere and food. I did see people waiting to be seated for a bit. The steak and the seafood linguine were both good. Pros: Good food and atmosphere Cons: Parking, waiting for seating more

Cheap and easy! 2/15/2006

We love this casual neighborhood restaurant. The food isn't amazing, but it's good and it's so cheap with the free corkage - who cares? It's a great alternative to cooking at home and you can find something for everyone. We're always happy to go and even take people there for a casual experience! AND they take reservations, which is rare. We made a dinner reservation for 10, were seated on time and only spent $40 a couple! Pros: Food options, No corkage, Location/Atmosphere Cons: sometimes food more

Unique and Tasty Nouveau Italian Cuisine 5/31/2005

The food is exceptional. They have some great salads, and offer them all in small, medium, and large (huge!). The pizzas are all quite tasty, and the pasta dishes are creative. The theme of the menu is hard to classify. Nouveau Italian? Italian-California-Fusion? On a budget, I often go with my wife and share a wonderful coconut milk green-curry mussel appetizer and a large boo-berry salad with fresh blueberries, caramelized walnuts, and chevre. The whole meal comes out to less than $20 and is quite satisfying. They don't charge for corkage, so we can bring our own bottle of wine. This is one of those places where I send my friends from out of town to experience affordable yet memorable Bay Area dining. You definitely wouldn't find this kind of restaurant anywhere else. Pros: Free Corkage, Vegetarian Options, Tasty Food Cons: Tough Parking, Often a wait more

Surprise!!!! 10/21/2002

I must say when my girlfrind convinced me to dine at this place I was a little deterred. The wait was awful for a table(my fault no reservation) ; ( . The service was not too comforting ; ( . The food on the other hand was excellent. Paella with risotto, of the 'hiznook'! All pizzas, in your face like ""BAM!""-- ala lagasse Pork carnitas and salsa verde, Tender and .....(stomach is growling, wants more) if the food was bad I would have complained, but I was satisfied. Pros: Paella, pizza Cons: service, atmosphere more

Neighborhood Jewel 9/17/2002

Spettros is a great place to take a date. Get a booth if you can and bring your own wine. Sure the line is sometimes long (esp. weekends), but there is something about the atmosphere that makes it worthwhile. The food is quite decent. You can get salads, pizzas, pasta, seafood, and great desserts. Pros: ambiance, no corkage fee, unpretentious Cons: lack of parking more

Yuck! 8/24/2002

A 15 minute wait outside for Italian Food. I'm Italian and this restaurant does not serve any staples of normal Italian food. Instead, it's a lame attempt at Fusion, i.e. pinenuts and jalapeno peppers on your pizza (blech!). The food was bland, service was decent, prices were high for small portions, and the interior is very cramped. Cons: Recipe's, Items offered on menu, The Wait more

what do we do with the leftovers? 8/7/2002

I've lived in Spettro's neighborhood for almost a year. I can't count the times I've eaten there. It used to be my favorite restaurant. Over the past year I've noticed a couple of things: On Monday their specials say salmon, Tuesday same thing, by Friday they still use salmon just in a different form. When you walk past their specials every day it becomes very clear that Spettro recycles their ingredients over and over. The result is neither fresh nor creative. They try hard but fail 80% of the time. Pros: no corkage fee more
