When I arrived at Spencer Recovery Center, Laguna Beach California, I was a mentally, physically and spiritually broken man from 25 years of excessive alcohol use. I was met by a wonderful, caring and professional staff who guided me through my detox and was there for me every step of the way. With an excellent teaching and counseling staff, I was given one-on-one counseling and group therapy. After each session, I was beginning to see what I was being taught, Spencer gave me a foundation and the tools to build on this foundation, in order to maintain sobriety. Today, I am a happy and sober man. I want to thank Spencer Recovery for saving my life, as I was truly on my way to death. more

We took our daughter to spencer recovery center and we have seen a tremendous change in her. She loves life again and is so positive about herself. I am amazed at her growth in the program at Spencer Recovery Centers, and I am excited for her future. I will forever be grateful to the staff at Spencer Recovery for the compassion and knowledge that they have shared with my family. It it wasn't for their help i don't know what we would have done. more

Words cannot express how impressed I am with Spencer Recovery Centers. It is abundantly clear that the staff truly cares about the patients? recovery and do everything they can to help the patient and their family during a very difficult time in their lives. It isn't a five star resort but the rooms are nice. And what really matters are great professionals who care about their patients and you will find that here. more

I would like to praise the great work of the staff at Spencer Recovery Center. They were very professional, caring and nurturing. They handled my husband's seizure episode with great care and professionalism, and helped him work through the issues that have conflicted him for so long. They are dedicated employees that really care for the patients in the rehab programs. They have done a great job for him on his road to a sober lifestyle. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! more

Spencer (now Dr. Paul's at the bay) in St. Pete does offer the basic tools to start to deal with addiction. However, I have more complaints than praise. The price is very high. Your counselors seem to take a genuine interest in you, however you cross them or disagree you are made to feel inferior. The more money you spend the more attention you get. Any client can tell staff something about you then you are watched like a hawk even if the story is completely false. I was kicked out of this place for trying to help another client who had relapsed horribly. Funny, I was taught there and in AA that we should help other addicts but when I did I was thrown out. If you are serious about staying sober start going to AA/NA and a therapist. Much cheaper and (for me) more beneficial. If you want minimal treatment and an expensive vacation...check yourself into Spencer's (Dr. Paul's at the Bay) St. Pete Beach, FL Pros: mostly caring staff, freedom to make own choices Cons: Horrible Dr., shabby rooms, horrible repeated foods more

This place does not offer high quality amenities as advertised, the rooms are small cramped and shabby. The staff is only committed to your recovery if you have enough money. Also if you really think they have an 85% recovery rate as advertised you may be shocked to find out how many people are relapsing and using while there. And If you relapse (which lets face it were addicts) and get caught you are out . . if they want you to be but if they dont you can stay . . they pick and choose at thier discretion. ( Parents, No refunds if your child gets kicked out 5 days in) I was started on medication for depression then asked to leave without notice although I was from out of state. Basically I was left out with nowhere to go, depressed, and had to stop an antidepressant with no thought of the damage it could cause to me mentally and physically. I dont reccommend this place. Pros: Alot of helpful tools established for recovery with patient support from the other addicts Cons: Little compassion for your disease if you relapse and very costly if you relapse more
