We too were victims of this Valentines Day embarrassment. After waiting almost 45 minutes for our first drink, I couldn't help but feel relieved that my boyfriend and I have been dating for some time. Because I honestly don't know how any couple could have survived and handled this disaster with the dignified behavior required during the 'getting to know you' phase. And if your relationship was on the rocks before you walked in, I am almost certain it is now more strained than ever.
The service was non existent. The food was mediocre at best and some dishes, we strongly suspect, were microwaved. Once other couples started leaving, the wait staff had more time to dedicate to each table and it appeared that the managers thought the best thing to do at this point was attempt to overwhelm us with champagne top ups. Perhaps we might get too drunk to remember these good times? Sadly, we did not.
In addition to the bad food and service, the place was extremely cold. I, like other lady guests, was wearing a dress for the occasion and was forced to cover up with my winter coat. I saw others do the same. Not a classy look when indoors at a fancy jazz restaurant.
I felt bad for the wait staff who were clearly having a tough time, but in the end we were paying to be there and had the right to expect better. Especially when being charged $95 per person, before tax and tip (gratuity not optional. How clever!).
Almost 3 hours later, my boyfriend and I finally departed, proud of having survived the ordeal and certain never to return to Spazio.
Pros: If you have a good sense of humor, lots to laugh about
Cons: Romance comes here to die
