I had to go out of town for a few days and usually I leave my dog with friends, but as it was the holidays no one was available to watch her. I found Southgate here on Citysearch and decided to give it a try. I had called a few of the more expensive/boutique doggy day care type places in Portland and they were all booked. I was nervous since my dog, who is 2 and a half, had never been boarded in a kennel before. Southgate offers large ""family"" kennels for dog families so my roommates and I reserved one for our three dogs. At $17.50 per dog, per day, it was a bargain. I believe their individual kennels go for $20 dog/day. Many of the other places I looked into charge upwards of $35/day. The staff was nothing but helpful, friendly, and efficient. They reassured me about boarding my dog for the first time and when I called to check on her halfway through her stay they gave me an update and reassured me again. They genuinely seem to enjoy and care about the dogs, and it shows in their work. The location itself lacks the polish of boutique-type doggie daycares in Portland proper, but they provide excellent care to the animals and that is what really matters. The dogs are let out multiple times a day for playtime and their kennels are cleaned daily. I am glad to know there is a caring kennel where I can leave my dog and feel confident that she is being well taken care of. I will definitely use Southgate again!
Pros: Friendly, excellent care for the animals
