poor customer service 7/19/2011

recently bought a car suv and and found sales people not very enthusiastic about explaining about the vehicle while test driving, they do not return calls for questions after buying the car. their finance manager is focused on selling you anything instead of giving you proper information to help you decide what warranty package you will need just throw you bunch of non sense info to confuse instead. when you decide to cancel the extended service agreement he mysteriously lose your paper work and don't have no interest to help you out. I would definitely look around other dealers for better attitude. more

Mechanics are knowledgeable and experienced with high performance cars. Dealership is Mazdaspeed certified and capable of factory high performance modifications. Auto was purchased and has been maintained at this Dealership and as of this date am very satisfied and would recommend this dealership to any Mazda owner. more

My wife and I have purchased both a 2007 Mazda 3 and a 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata from Southern States Mazda. Both experiences were very good, they were upfront with the pricing (even advertised $6,500 off on the Miata when Mazda had only a $5,000 rebate at the time). Finance department never pressured us to get extended warranties or gap insurance. It was more of a take it or leave it offer. I even had a lease turn in on my previous car that got messed up somewhere along the line (either the post office or Nissan Finance, not sure which). I was worried because I didn't have any official paperwork on the final lease payments that they were going to pay for me. However, when I went to the dealership and mentioned the problem, they were more than willing to figure out what happened and get it cleared up for me, even though in the end it really wasn't their screw up. Overall, they've made a consistent customer out of me and I will continue to use them for service and sales in the future. more

AWFUL REPAIR DEPARTMENT 4/19/2011

The check in people are nice, the mechanics rush you and when you are a female they think you are stupid. I took my vehicle there 2 x for the same problem. They would not keep the vehicle to find out what was wrong with it. I ended up taking it To Crossroads Nissan in wake forest where the diagnosis was found and fixed. (took 5 days to diagnos) and fix. Much better service @ Crossroads. I have called several times to speak with the manager of the repair department he has not bothered to call back. I spent Good money to get my car fixed and now the manager doesn't even have the decency to fire those LOSERS on wake forest road. Well, I spoke with the Department that sold me the car today and guess what he said. " I hope you don't use my name" They are a bunch of back yard mechanics over there and when I get finished with them. They are gonna be really regreting ignoring my calls. DO NOT GO TO SOUTHERN STATES! THEY ARE AWFUL, DOUG, JEREMEY, RANDY. EVEN YOU NAMELESS GUY ACCROSS THE STREET. Crossroads in wake forest is worth the trip.. Saved my car from further damage, I had a bad cam shaft, gas was effected and all. AND DUM! the mechanic couldn't diagnose it without an engine warning. What a bunch of LOSERS! more

What brought me to buy a car at that dealership was the fact that they quoted me the final, out of the door price in an e-mail straight away. Another local dealer had made me come in and gave me all sorts of pressure tactics before producing a sheet with the final price. Southern States Mazda e-mailed me a price, and that's how much I wrote the check for. The price of the car was reasonable, by a couple of hundred dollars less than I had been prepared to pay. The salesman was also fairly pleasant and knowledgeable during the test-drive. In my case, this did not matter much because I knew exactly what car and options I wanted, but it might for other people. This is my first new car purchase and I am happy. more

I purchased a new Mazda3iT from Derek Quint in Internet Sales Dept of Southern States Mazda in Raleigh, NC. The experience was both "painless" and actually enjoyable! Derek's personable approach to his job so impressed me. It's unfortunate that most of the salesmen I've met over the years aren't more like him. When my husband and I were at the dealership and had the opportunity to privately discuss our purchase decision, we both agreed that we would buy my car from Derek even if we didn't end up getting the exact terms we wanted. However, we actually got a better deal than we had anticipated prior to going to the dealership. I've always believed that, within reason, the salesman is more important than the "bottom line" in most major financail transactions. I think Southern States has a real jewel in Derek and I will certainly recommend him to anyone I know who's considering a new car purchase. My experience purchasing my car from Southern States was rather unique for me, and probably, for most consumers. My "gut instincts" about Derek, combined with the extensive research I had done on the Mazda3 prior to going to dealership. led me to do something I have never done--I purchased my car without even seeing or test driving it. I don't have any regrets about doing this--I absolutely love my new car! It drives beautifully and has many features I wouldn't expect for a car in its price category. I totally agree with all of the positive comments of consumers and professinal reviewers that I read on the internet prior to my purchase. The Mazda3 is a zippy car that is actually a lot of fun to drive! more

i took my '09 Murano LE in for a few minor repairs. Sylvester, service manager, was very courteous and upfront with prices for all service. I had just had the car serviced at jiffy lube and he found that the oil plug had been damaged and was leaking and the air filter box had not been reattached properly causing the car to be sluggish and noisy. This was done at no charge. I was pleased with the service and will return. more

Best car buying experience 4/13/2011

This is my best new car buying experience by far...From the get go, the quote I received from Derek Quint (the Mazda Internet Sales Mgr) was very reasonable, described all details of all sale scenarios (cash or finance) in detail, clear and much to the point. No wasting of my time to "dance around and negotiate" - he knows that Internet shoppers are savvy and usually have done some extensive research and comparative pricing. After I had done some more homework on pricing , I felt that his quote was extremely fair from the very start (all other dealers initially inflated the price, which gave them more wiggle room in negotiations later). When I finally met with Derek and Sean (the Finance guy), I did not feel the need to "play games" as this time it was different - I was not in a see of sharks, but rather among knowlegeable professionals who sincerely wanted my business - not only to close this sale and make a quick buck, but it seems to keep me happy so I keep comming back for all my transportation needs in the future. Everything was very straight forward (as it should be) - there was no mistakes adding up the numbers, they answered every question I had on the vehicle, overall the sale experience was a breeze. Also consider this - I had closed the deal late in the evening, all docs were signed (sale was final)and I came back on the following day to pick up the car (after being detailed) only to have my wife notice a very small scratch on one of the fenders....Derek arranged to swap the car for another one, to get all new docs prepared & signed (all in about 2 hours time), so that me and my wife could drive away as happy as we could ever be. Now, that's what I call good custmer service !! It seems to me that Southern States does not operate under the "cookie cutter" platform (possibly because they are privately held), instead they really focus individually on each customer and adhere to their needs on a one by one basis. I would gladly reccomend this dealership and especially the guys at Mazda more

Service Mgr. very helpful: My daughter's 626 broke down recently. Not living in the Raleigh area I had no knowledge on who to use for the repair. Called the SouthernStates Service Mgr next day. He arranged for the tow, kept up good communication regarding the repairs and other P.M., he did not recommend some mtnce that had been suggested by another garage only a couple of weeks earlier. Work was done promptly. Good experience more

My car started making loud noises on my way to Raleigh, NC on Christmas eve. The day after Christmas I started making calls for car repair and tried to avoid dealerships. The only place that could take my car was Southern States Mazda. They diagnosed the problrm immediately as an illm fitting catalytic converter that I had replaced and the converter was about to fall off, but they would try to bolt it in place until I could get home and take the car back to my car repqair person. Service tech told me that he would not feel right recharging me for another converter. Techs worked on my car until they felt the converter was secured enough for me to make the trip home--the charge was minimal as they explained that they used soine parts available in the shop.----If I lived in NC-Southern states Mazda is the first place I would go to when looking for a car more

My experience purchsing my Mazdz3i from Derek Quint was both "painless" and actually enjoyable! His personable approach to his job so impressed my husband and me that we decided to buy my car from him even if we didn't get the exact financial terms we wanted. However, in the end we got a better deal than we had expected. I've always felt that, within reason, the salesman is more important than the "bottom line" in most major financial transactions. I think Southern States has a real "jewel" in Derek and I will certainly recommend him to anyone who's considering purchasing a new car. By the way, I also love my new Mazda3i! more

I had the absolute pleasure of working with a service advisor in the nissan dept. by the name of Colin Spark. Colin made my "bad" car situation very "good" for me. My car was brought to nissan from another dealership to have the transmission replaced. The only communication I had with the dealership that I purchased my car from is to tell me what was wrong. I contacted nissan and began to speak with Colin. Colin first of all put all my fears to rest by talking to me and answering ALL of my questions. He made arrangements with me to keep me posted every week by giving me his personal phone number and setting up a time to call me each week to keep me posted about the progerss of my car. My transmission had to be shipped from over seas and that took some time. I was without my car for 7 weeks, but in those 7 weeks Colin kept his word on updating me once a week, and even taking my calls whenever necessary. He even took the time to take a call from me when he was on his personal time.I received my car back on yesterday and even after I received it, Colin called me to make sure everthing was ok. Thank you Mr. Colin Spark for being such an outstanding service advisor! What yopu did for me made this single moms life a little better!!! more

We have both a 2007 Mazda 3 and a 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata that we've brought to Southern States Mazda for servicing. They've always been very efficient. Staff is very helpful, writes out estimates on the work that will be performed, etc. Monday's can get a little busy there as they allow weekend drop off and the cars pile up over the weekend, but this is the case at many other service departments as well. I had bought a leftover 2008 Miata and it needed an inspection a month after I bought it. When my wife brought it in for service, they realized it was a car we had just bought from them and they gave us the inspection for free. Little things like that will keep me going back to this dealership for any of my service or sales needs. more

First car purchased from this dealer and I'm writing this after 7 months and 7000 miles on a new vehcile. As a professional sales engineer I believe a good deal is a fair deal where both parties win and Mike & Alex gave us a good deal after XMAS 2009 on a 2010 CX-9 GT AWD after a little haggling. They had no problem giving me a fair price on changing out the OEM 20" Bridgestones for the much better Michelin Latitudes and found a white AWD to my specs in short order (not an easy task when most AWD's are sold north of NC). I had been researching this purchase for over 6 months and knew the vehicle spec's inside out after settling on the CX-9. The SS sales crew was very knowledgeable and even pulled in Crosby from Service to help answer my technical questions on Mazda's AWD system. All in all - an efficient, professional satisfactory sales and service experience from a dealer I'm sure to continue with as long as they maintain quality staff like Mike, Alex, Crosby and others. It's only my second Mazda in 20 vehicles I've owned or have been provided by work, but both Mazda and Southern States are buidling a great relationship with this customer. more
