Unacceptable! 3/19/2011

This was the worst BBQ I have ever eaten! We ordered the King?s Combo ? the fried chicken was dry, the ribs were burnt black charcoal, the brisket had some flavor but was 98% greasy fat so the 2% of greasy meat was unacceptable. The waitress replaced the ribs with another set that was not brunt but complete fat. The waitress apologized and said she was glad that we were nice to her because the guy before us treated her as though she had cooked his bad burger. The manager was apologetic and took the meal off of our bill. He then asked us if we wanted some dessert. At that point we were so sick from all of the grease and fat (or what they call BBQ) that we declined. Any good reviews about this restaurant must have something to do with Justin Timberlake. He clearly needs to stick to singing and stay out of the food industry. more

Mmmm beverage tastings 5/27/2010

I recently attended a Bourbon tasting at Southern Hospitality. Our host, Chris was lively, fun, informative and quite responsive. We were treated to a mini education about how this spirit, that is basically a whisky, came to be known as bourbon (it has to do with distribution, but I won't spoil that story). Our group got to sample generous pours of a number of different varieties of bourbon. Accompanied by a few sample plates of the S.H. food. I had no idea pickles were something that could be fried. Although I would venture a guess nearly anything could be deep fried. The ribs were quite well received. The golden brown crawfish hush puppies were also a crowd favorite. Great spot for parties and gatherings. They seem to maintain a full events calendar. A few of the other participants were regulars at S.H. and made mention Pros: Actually Hospitable more

Hospitality? Not so sure 4/10/2010

I went to this restaurant with high hopes. I don't like Justin Timberlake but I was hoping I'd like his restaurant at least. Plus any restaurant that has Fried Pickles has a fan in me. My friend and I went on Tuesday night - it wasn't busy at this time. In terms of food - good! LOVED the Fried Pickles and LOVED the Chicken and Waffles. We were in a little bit of a rush but the food came out very fast so that was great. The waitress we had was nice but so slow. I work in a restaurant so I know how it is, but it wasn't even busy. We were hiding in the back somewhere so it is possible that maybe she just kept forgetting we were even there but it took forever to leave just because she kept forgetting about us. I might go back again. It wasn't a horrible experience or anything. It was just sorta good. Pros: Chicken and Waffles, Fried Pickles Cons: Slow service more

Some of the Best Chicken, EVER! 12/3/2009

Southern Hospitality is one my favorite restaurants in New York. I heard a lot of hype about the place, both good and bad, and decided to try it for myself. I was seated fast and the food came within minutes of ordering. Don't let the prices on the menu fool you- you get enough bang for your buck. Their original chicken is the best! There is never usually a long line or wait for food. I have found that the best time to go is between noon and four during the weekdays since there usually is not a lot of people there. Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in New York. Pros: Speedy service, free delivery, clean facility Cons: Nothing more

My favorite place 6/9/2009

Southern Hospitality is the best! The food is delicious, and I absolutely love their spareribs and mac'n'cheese. My roommate had never had BBQ before we went here for my last birthday, and now she's hooked. The servers are great, and my friends and I have a lot of fun there. They have live music several times a week, which always brings a fun crowd. Check out their page on Twitter for specials, like free fried pickles or drinks for telling the bartender certain phrases. Definitely a spot to check out while you're in NYC. Pros: great bbq, live music, awesome drinks more

Great place 1/17/2009

I booked the private room for 20 people to watch a Giants game.It is a great space to watch a game,4 screens,a dedicated server and pretty good eats.I will definitely book it again next NFL season. The pulled pork sliders, ribs and the burgers were very good. more

I Will Definitely Be Coming Back!! 1/15/2009

Last week I went to Southern Hospitality for the first time, and I will definitely be going back! My friends and I came for dinner (awesome wings), and ended up staying at the bar after. The staff was friendly, and even though the place was busy, our waitress was very attentive. If you are looking for a good time and great bbq, make sure you check it out. Pros: atmosphere, music, great staff and food more

Great for Brunch with friends 1/4/2009

I went last Sunday with 9 other friends. We arrived at 2pm- no wait and we got a nice long table in front of the cool Elvis murals. The waitress was great and very attentive, we got our drinks and food very quickly. Pros: Great Memphis style food more

Justin needs to get it together 12/30/2008

Took a friend from NC, who loves Justin. Thought that the restaurant would live up to Justin's name as well as his popularity. Nothing but a big disappointment. Thinking that it was located uptown that this would be a great experience, but no. We had the fried ribs was greasy, the macaroni with beans not worth the price, sweet potatoes was not anything different from can, had the pecan pie again, just like any other pie. 2 people 65.00 without tip, including a 1 drink, 1 tea, and another dessert. Cons: all more

Crappy BBQ and Even Crappier Service 12/30/2008

I took a friend here because she was visiting from down south and was excited to eat some BBQ in NYC as well as had always wanted to go to the restaurant Justin Timberlake owned. Not only were the BBQ ribs not authentic southern style and tasted average for their high price, but the waitress we had was very rude. She ignored us the entire time, took forever to get our drinks, and never checked up on us once we had our food. Both of us ordered rips- usually when people ordered rips you need more than one napkin especially if their BBQ. We had 1 napkin and since our waitress didn't check on us after we got our food, we had to ask a bus boy for extra napkins. I worked in the food service industry and have been a waitress for 9 years and have not experienced such crappy service in a very long time. Therefore I tipped under 20% which is something I never do considering my background and experience- but since it was so horrible I did. Would not go back again and do not bring someone from the South who knows BBQ way better than this sham of a restaurant. Pros: Cool Decorations Cons: Waitstaff, prices, and quality of food more

Good not great 12/8/2008

I was looking forward to the fried pickles but I was very disappointed. I was expecting something light and sour but instead, it was breaded and tasted of only breading. The ribs were decent and the burger was pretty decent. Wouldn't say it's a place I would frequent again but overall not a bad experience. Server was very nice and attentive when needed. Shout out to the ladies, be careful of the bathroom doors, they jam easily! more

Awesome... 11/26/2008

I had an overall positive dining experience. All of my food was great and the service was too. Romantic too. Yes it was pricey but in my case it was a special occassion and worth it.I would recommend to anyone. Pros: service, food more

Loving Justin's Place 11/20/2008

I had a good experience at Justin's restaurant Southern Hospitality. We went at 1pm on a Wednesday and there were only 2 other people in the whole place. The service was nice and quick. The music and ambiance was nice. (We even heard a Justin song!) Very clean. The food was ok. Nothing amazing, but still a good experience. Pros: Mellow during work hours, good music Cons: No Justin sighting:( more

had a good time 11/16/2008

I went there last night for the UFC 91 fight, it was an event night so we all knew that we were gonna have to wait and it would be crowded, all of the staff was very nice the open bar was great once we got to our table everything was uphill from there, our waitress was amazing, for the amount of tables she had and the people just standing all over the place she was always there, we had the wings which are really good, the nachos were very good and my wife had a mushroom burger she said it was very good as well, i would like to go back for a regular dinner on a weeknight but for what it was on sat it was a very good experience Pros: good staff and food Cons: bar was packed more

Great food, great drinks 10/30/2008

Went recently with some friends for dinner and had an awesome time. After we enjoyed a tasty dinner (try the BBQ nachos with pulled chicken and baby back ribs!) we stayed for drinks. The staff was very friendly, the music was good, and everyone I was with had a great time. We will definitely be back soon. Pros: Great staff, big portions more
