The food was definitely what we were looking for. The ambiance was nice, too. I'd be back next time to try their other dishes. more

Bloated prices for average fare 5/24/2011

I should preface by saying that I've only eaten here twice. Sadly, both times the food was average and the prices were high. The most recent visit, this past Sunday, some friends and I dropped in for brunch. They serve the full menu, plus some brunch-specific items. Since I was in the mood for actual brunch, I ordered an omelette, which was supposed to come with assorted sides. When I made the order, the waiter asked if I wanted the sides? Why would I not? He presented it as if they cost extra, but then later admitted that they came with the meal. Confused?? The food and drinks arrived. For my meal, the biscuits were supposed to come with jelly: none included and the waiter was nowhere to be found, despite low volume in the restaurant. The omelette had several shells in it. Not even remotely appealing. Then, after drinking half of my beer, I noticed a long black hair sticking to the side of the glass. Disgusting. Also, the bathrooms were filthy. Some of this is forgivable, but most is not. It the food were like $6, I might forgive it. But for $12 an omelette, and $6 for a draft beer, I would expect better quality and service. The truth is, the food just isn't that good. It's like eating at TGI Fridays, but with worse service, filthier accommodations, and higher prices. If you think their BBQ is good, you have never had good BBQ. If you think their prices are fair, then keep supporting them, because I won't. more

Use to have great food 9/6/2010

South Street use to be a great restaurant, but the food has taken a drastic change for the worse. We went there on a Friday night (9/3/10), and ordered several dinners. There were six people in our party and when we received our food, it was cold. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone again. I can say the best thing about that night was our waitress. If it wasn't for her pleasing attitude the experience would have been terrible. more

Fun place to be 8/20/2010

South Street is my favorite restaurant in Nashville. Food is great. They have great baked fish dishes, if you want to eat healthy and their bread pudding, best I've EVER had. Service is great ESPECIALLY if you should get Carla or Robin's table!! I celebrate most of my special occasions there, it's just a FUN PLACE TO BE!! more

Poor Service, long wait times 7/4/2010

Really poor multiple people. Also, it's very difficult to get a waiter's attention. It's sad because there's so much going for this restaurant. Pros: Good location Cons: Poor service, long wait times more

South Street Rocks! 6/13/2010

I live in Chicago and I visit this place every time I am in Nashville. Went again this weekend and as usual our party had a GREAT time. Be sure to sit upstairs for a really great experience. The staff there are great, attentive and the food is fabulous. Stick with the barbeque and oysters and you can't go wrong. Pros: Barbeque, Oysters, Atmosphere, Fun, Great Staff, FUN Cons: Parking more

Best Ribs and hot bbq sauce!! 2/19/2010

South Street is my favorite restaurant in Nashville! I can only think of a few items on their menu I dont like but that is only because I dont like seafood. They have the BEST ribs I have eaten in my life and that is saying alot since I grew up around BBQ restaurants. You can enjoy the taste of the ribs with or without the bbq sauce....which I will add is very good too! Every time I am visiting home I stop by for some ribs. Pros: Enviromenth Cons: Space more

wayyy low quality food for the price 2/1/2010

they do serve a way lower quality food than the menu price. more

Tree House 10/14/2009

Go upstairs to the ""Tree House"" best place to hang out. Good Staff, Good Food, and good times! Pros: Great Bartender, Open Doors, Great Food! more

Fun Place with Good Food 7/29/2009

I've never had a bad experience at South Street. It's a fun place with good seafood. Also, it's one of the few places in Nashville that serves raw oysters. They stay open late (til 3am) and have a late-night menu. The upstairs ""treehouse"" is fantastic in spring, summer, and fall. I recommend trying to get a seat up there. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I Pros: good atmosphere, oysters, open late Cons: sometimes really crowded more

Great food & service 11/8/2008

We were looking for something different from the same old, same old that we always go to so we thought we would check out South Street. The food was great! Our server was very attentive, checking back frequently to see how we were doing. We had a variety of dishes and they were all very good. My husband's only complaint was that his rib/shrimp platter was a bit sparse but my daughter ordered the pumped chicken and it was a half a chicken so hubby was full before we left after eating the rest of her chicken. The crab was a bit pricey for the amount that you got but it was delicious. We will definitely go back. Pros: Fast seating, fast service, great food Cons: Noisy environment (mainly due to a large group of very inconsiderate 30-somethings) more

Great Oysters 7/14/2008

Haven't been here in quite awhile. Brought some California friends who were dying for oysters. It was a Monday night and was surprisingly crowded. The host was more than a little gruff but the waitress and food were great. Oysters were the best I've had in Nashville in a long time and the out-of-towners loved it. more

Always feel valued and welcome! 4/12/2008

I go for the smokin thighs and the southern onion dressing. awesome! Further, if Jesse is working, sit at his bar and prepare to be entertained with a witty personality, top-notch skills and great conversation. If manager David is on duty, he'll surely stop by to check on your well-being. These two cats make the place! I go every chance I get. Pros: everything Cons: parkings iffy, but so what. Keep looking 'till you find something more

HORRIBLE!!! 11/28/2007

My wife and I were asking around for a seafood place while in Nashville and this came highly recommended. Boy was that guy wrong. We wanted a more intimate sit down place and this is the opposite. I looked at the menu and it seemed tasty, hoping the food would match the prices...NO WAY. Our server must have been having the worst day of her life because she was rude, unattentive, and came by only once after we were served. Not to mention they got my wife's order wrong. I found myself waiting for 10 minutes before getting another beer. Cons: Poor food and service, noisy and overpriced more

Awesome breakfast! 2/9/2007

I've eaten here a lot as it's close to school. Their breakfast is awesome especially their hash browns. service is excellent and if they're really busy, they are very apologetic, so can't dock them on that. their beer always tastes cold and fresh. Pros: food is just good Cons: can't think of any except hungry drunken older women at the bar who steal your food! more

Spring/Fall yes....Summer/Winter no 11/17/2006

Well I better explain. This is a great restaurant it really is. If you can get a table up in the treehouse its great. If you can go when the weather is nice its perfect here. We have been every season and Spring and Fall are best. When its summer this restaurant is hot...Winter very cold. It is very crowded and very very loud. You get shuffled in and out no room at some of the tables. Pros: Great Food good time Cons: Parking! Service (I really think just about every server here is rude) more

Good variety. 10/27/2006

Large menu with tons of variety from New Orleans favorites, to seafood, to American fare. The place can be sort of grungy though. The prices are overpriced because of the ""trendy"" area. Pros: Great atmosphere. Cons: Overpriced, Grungy. more

Great oysters and loved the service! 8/30/2006

We had a great experience at South Street. Myself, husband and 1 year old came in for lunch and the manager talked to us like he had known us for years. The entire waitstaff catered to us when our server was overwhelmed. Everyone was kind and talkative. Besides that the food was awesome and hope to get a babysitter and come back for a Saturday night out!! Highly recommended! Pros: The parking situation couldnt get better, the valet service was great! Cons: not sure there are any more

A fun place to eat or drink. 8/11/2006

My favorite casual place in Nashville. The food is good but it is not cheap. This place is priced like everything else in the neibhorhood. The food is GREAT. I love the steamer bucket. If you want to split something and you both are hungry try the crab and slab(three kinds of crab and a big slab is ribs). You will pay a little more than a true ""dive bar"" but it is a lot better. The servers can be rude when they get rushed. This is a good place to go when you need an ""ice breaker"", people have fun here. When the weather is cooler but not cold, go upstairs to the ""tree house"" Pros: Good food, fun times Cons: The staff sometimes has an attitude. more

Shrimpy Portions and Rude Waiters 5/21/2006

This place is on my list of ""I'll never eat there again."" The tater tots were some kind of experimental fried mashed potatoes that resembled hush puppies with mushy innards. My girlfriend had a seafood ""platter which consisted of three malnourished shrimp, five scraggly calamari, and fries. They had to distribute the food evenly on the oversized plate to make it look full. Thinking this a mistake I told our (rude and slow) waiter that we were missing some shrimp. He said, That is correct...half and half."" Uhm...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't halves equal? He added that for $6.95 we could add six shrimp. After paying, the waiter asked if my friend needed change. She said yes and our waiter said he had dropped some and it rolled down the street. If your looking for a place to make you feel like you've been mugged and verbally abused...enjoy. Pros: BBQ, Atmosphere, Location Cons: Portions, Wait Staff, Bad Seafood more
