Great Vet who goes above and beyond for my pets 2/16/2007

Dr. Dobies has a first rate practice and his staff are second to none. I have two field trial yellow labs who are frequently in his clinic for one injury or another, and he and his staff treat me as if I were one of the family. On Sunday July 2, my female yellow lab got severely cut up on oyster shells while I was at the beach, and I was able to call him on his cell phone and he told me that after the emergency vet visit to get her stitched up to bring her to him when I got home for followup care. He called me several more times over the next couple of days to see how she was doing. When I got home on Tuesday, he met me at his office to look over the injury. This is just one instance where Dr. Dobies has treated a client with concern and compassion. The outcome has always been very favorable because Dr. Dobies goes through every possible scenario to make sure that the patient is treated for the problem. That's what I want in my vet.\r \r I would highly recommend his practice for any more

The most compasionate DVM and Staff at South Point Pet Hospital 2/14/2007

Dr. Dobies and his staff truly Love what they do! I moved here from TN and went to 3 other Vet's before I found Dr. Dobies. My dog is 11 years old with lots of issues. Thanks to Dr. Dobies, he seems to be feeling better than ever! Dr. Dobies takes the time to research, study and consult with others if necessary to ensure that my dog is getting the best treatment possible. I wish I had found Dr. Dobies when we first moved to the area. If you are looking for a DVM, you need to try South Point Hospital, where your pet's health is always first priorty! more

Excellent Veterinarian 2/12/2007

After going to another area veterinary practice for the past 10 years, I changed to Dr. Dobies' practice after hearing family members talk about how impressed they were with the care he gave their pets. The difference was immediately noticeable, especially in the care he gave my 13 year old diabetic lab, who also had severe hip displasia. Dr. Dobies was able to immediately improve this dog's quality of life through more sophisticated pain management than we had been offered by several other vets. A few days before Christmas, we had to put this dog to sleep due to another health issue he developed that couldn't be cured. Dr. Dobies was available at all hours to help us as we were reaching this decision- he even offered to be available Christmas weekend if that's when we were going to need him. Over the past 5 months, I have had my 4 dogs and 4 cats in for treatment and routine checkups with Dr. Dobies. He and his staff are the friendliest, most skilled, and caring team I have been to in more

Compassion tops the list 2/12/2007

Dr. Dobies has been our veterinarian since he began practicing in Gaston County. We, as well as many other clients, followed him when he opened his own hospital, not just because he is an excellent clinician but, because of his compassion. I have taken 5 dogs and a cat to Dr. Dobies and when our 18 year cat and later that year our 18 year old dog died, it was Dr. Dobies who was there for us to provide support. How many vets give clients their cell phone numbers and routinely answer the phone in the middle of the night? How many vets make house calls? Well, Dr. Dobies does! He has been with us to share the good and the bad, and even our 4 dogs look forward to a visit to the vet.\r \r Dr. Dobies never orders unnecessary tests and has routinely caught symptoms or abnormalities that other vets have missed or written off. Dr. Dobies and his staff take a preventative approach to pet healthcare. Two of our dogs are now 15 years old and we expect them to live at least as long as our two 18 yr. ol more

Dr. Dobies responds 2/12/2007

I regret that the first reviewer had a bad experience with my hospital. Our goal at South Point Pet Hospital is to be a "family practice for your pet." \r \r I was both surprised and concerned when routine testing revealed abnormal results in this pet, so I immediately suggested follow-up testing and then referral to a nearby specialty clinic. This client chose to cancel the specialty clinic appointment and did not respond to my voicemail messages over a week's time. Out of concern for the pet's health, I wrote this client a hand-written note urging them to seek another opinion as soon as possible. I am relieved that this pet appears to have had follow-up medical care, and happy that things turned out well for their family.\r \r My clients have my cell phone number for after-hours concerns, and I routinely see patients at night and on weekends when the hospital is otherwise closed. I love being a small-town veterinarian, and I want to be there for my clients and patients when it matt more

Qualified, but lacks compassion. 9/5/2006

Dr. Dobies seems to be a very qualified vet. He came highly recommended when I choose to take my pet to him. I was not impressed. A family emergency (motorcycle accident) delayed follow up testing on my dog for 3 days. Instead of understanding, Dr. Dobies wrote a very insensitive letter that in no way made the situation better. Thankfully, the additional testing showed none of the problems Dr. Dobies feared. However, his lack of compassion made a scary situation even worse. PROS: Qualified CONS: Insensitive more
