Not so great 4/9/2010

It's taken me one month to cautiously think about this review and try my best to given an honest account of the bbq at Sonnys. I'm no expert at bbq but I've had my fair share of bbq across texas. I think i have an idea of what food/ restaurants are good with an objective thought process. I went to school in Austin (UT) and ate at all the joints down there i.e. Saltlick, Rudy's, County Line etc. Saltlick is my favorite but the sauce could use some kick. Rudy's is great all around (never been to original location). Pros: Good onion rings Cons: Really dry ribs, brisket, and mediocre sauce more

Peace Love and BBQ 4/14/2009

I've been eating at Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse for twenty years and I cannot get enough. I absolutely love a nice place of brisket, preferably from the business end, with links, fries and Sonny's signature sauce. Pros: It's all good Cons: There's no bad more

Not as good as the reviews that I saw... 9/6/2008

Since my wife and I moved from Oklahoma to texas we have been in search of a good barbeque. We tried a Sonny Bryans on the Fort Worth side of town because of some reviews that we read. I must say that we were pretty disappointed. The service was good, the prices were okay. The food was just very mediocre at best. In Oklahoma there is this place called the Rib Cribb which is the best ever so we do have pretty high expectations. It seems like each place we have tried in Texas doesn't seem to be able to live up to what we were used to in Oklahoma. We thought this to be strange considering all I hear about Texas barbeque. At this point we are still searching. more

try the Frito Pie 6/12/2008

Pros: Frito Pie Cons: hard wooden booths more

Best barbecue of the planet 5/15/2007

This is by far the best barbecue place you will ever find. You can easly notice the meat is the finnest you can get in terms of barbecue. Their sauce is great, plus its really convenient and nice. more

DAllas' BEST BBQ!!! 11/24/2006

My Dad started taking me to the orifinal Sonny Bryan's over 30 years ago and I still think it is the best in the city! Their Brisket is by far the best - always very flavorful and juicy. They may have lost a bit of the ambience in tbheir expansion, but the BBQ is ultimately what made them and it still ROCKS!!! Pros: Best brisket & BBQ sauce Cons: pretty boring atmosphere more

Best Mexican food in town. 11/24/2006

The food was excellent. The prices were good and the waitstaff were very friendly. I particularly liked the BBQ Pork Ribs & Onion Rings. Pros: Servings are large Cons: The decor could be improved. more

Boo! 11/20/2006

I hated the BBQ so much that I had to throw it out.. I'm not from Tx and I was really excited to try this place out after reading a couple of reviews, and needless to say, I was pretty dissappointed. Pros: . Cons: . more

I just don't get it 8/11/2006

The downtown location is mediocre at best. The one on Inwood is a roadside dumpster of a building that is fly and creepy crawler inhabited. Good Lord, this is Texas and you want to hold this up as the best? There are too many better spots to eat BBQ within a two-square mile radius for this eye-sore on blacktop to be honored. If you must, get it to-go, but you have been warned. This only goes to prove that a sentimental favorite is hard to rate rationally for a lot of people. My guess is that good BBQ houses just roll their eyes at the collective ignorance in this choice. Cons: Ambience? Really? more

Warning for tea drinkers 7/11/2006

The BBQ is OK. The Catering end of it kinda scares me. Their tea urns are kept uncovered in the open kitchen and I discovered a white slimy film in the bottom of the urn, I told the Catering director to have them cleaned out with bleach and to monitor them on a daily basis, because tea can carry a bacteria. He said he wasnt aware that tea can carry a bacteria. He says Ah! dont worry about it, the water that goes in them gets pretty hot. more

Don't understand the hoopla - just OK 6/9/2005

Mediocre to OK BBQ at best. The meat quality is good but the sauce is just so NOT. more

horrible food 6/8/2005

The meat is of poor quality and bland. Side dishes are not cooked properly and not worth ordering. more

Excellent 7/13/2004

An establishment in texas, great flow, a must eat for any bbq fan. Wont break the bank eating there too, but will break the belt buckle, if you get my drift. Pros: excellent food, good prices, friendly service more

A Dallas Texas Institution! 7/10/2003

Some pretty damn good BBQ Pork Ribs & Onion Rings. I like the original location the best, 2202 Inwood Road. I live in Los Angeles, and I always miss & cvrave this Dallas legend! Pros: Good Ribs, Good Sauce, Good Texas Onion Ring Cons: Poor Decor, Dirty Surroundings more
