SOHO TIFFIN JUNCTION in the heart of NYU in Greenwich Village, serves mouth-watering food inspired by traditional South Indian cuisine. STJ’s affordable menu allows for customized meals with tantalizing protein options along with vegetarian and vegan choices. An added bonus of STJ’s take on the traditional South Indian dishes is that its menu is gluten, soy and nut free, with many low calorie options. STJ is exactly the kind of Indian cuisine this city has been lacking. \r \r The founding partners, Jawahar Chirimar, Sam Subramaniam, and M. Mahadevan were inspired in part by the school children and office workers in India who would bring their tiffins — or packed lunches — containing an easy-to-eat, well balanced and nutritious meal. STJ brings that spirit of the tiffin to New York serving all the essentials wrapped up into one.\r \r The guests start customizing their meal by choosing all the delicious fillings to be wrapped inside a Dosa or served on a bed of lemon rice or served on romaine lettuce that is dressed in kokum and date. The guest then makes her very own meal by picking the fillings — brown or white lemon rice, sprouted mung beans with sambar spices, one out of six scrumptious entrées and any combination and any number of chutneys and garnishes.\r \r The Dosa — a delicious gluten-free and vegan sourdough crepe — is a labor of love; its batter is fermented for up to 12 hours, and then each Dosa is individually hand crafted. The six delicious entrées are grilled chicken with curry spices, shredded beef with Mangalorean sauce, pulled pork in mild Vindaloo sauce, baked egg whites with Chettinad sauce, kale with vegan cheese and potato masala. Each dish can be personalized with as much chutneys and garnishes as the guest desires: tomato and onion chutney (mild), chayote and tamarind chutney (medium), three-chili chutney (spicy), spinach raita, mango chutney, matchstick carrots and shredded Romaine lettuce. \r \r A full roster of carefully selected beverages is also available: beer (in some locations), healthy carbonated drinks (2B Sparkling—all natural, lightly sweet with 30 calories per 12 ounces), clove & cinnamon coffee, cardamom & turmeric tea and mango lassi. \r \r The meals range from 450-850 calories and are made to order in a matter of minutes, making it an ideal lunch and dinner choice combining economy, efficiency and taste. Laced with Indian elements, the décor incorporates clean aesthetics and warm oak wood creating an environment that is both inviting and casual. STJ located in the Greenwich Village is the first of five planned Manhattan locations to open, with future plans to provide web-based and app-based ordering. \r more
