Sobelman's on St. Paul gets a FAILING grade. I put in a small pick-up order during a non busy time, and still...half of the food items in the order were wrong. It also cost me 3 bucks extra b/c I paid for something I didn't get. WAKE UP SOBELMAN'S..being a well known local spot will only take u so far if your employees lack ATTENTION TO DETAIL. more

This is not an indictment of the food. Awesome-esque, as usual. But consider the distance from the location to your door. The perfect fries are not so perfect, the bun is extra squishy. Keep ordering, just consider the mileage when you do more

Great food, as always! There was a little confusion about our order once we arrived at Sobelman's, but it was figured out fairly easily. The only reason we give it 4/5 is because one of our burgers wasn't made correctly-- it had onions and tomato on it when we didn't want either-- but it was easy to scrape off and was still delicious! more

nice place 4/18/2009

They have the best boody mary. (w/celery, olive, shrimp, lemon slice, cheese, sausage, pickled aspargus spear, mushroom, and onion as its garnish. The Sobelman's Burger was good,. The bun was great. Onion rings appetizer was average. All in all, its was a nice meal. Pros: great buns ! Cons: we waited a very long time for our bill . more

Average bar with an average burger 2/20/2009

Like many here I stopped by in search of an awesome burger, but it really wasn't all that.. I ordered their signature burger (Its something like ""The Sobelman Burger"") and after a bite, immediately scraped off the secret sauce. I've yet to find a better burger than the Sobelman burger. I eat there nearly every time I get to Milwaukee. Great atmosphere and Hacker Pschorr on tap, to boot. Order the cheeseballs. Pros: The Sobelman burger is unmatched. Cons: No fountain soda more

Sobelman's is clearly a hot spot during the lunch hour. When I went, the place was slammed. I wasn't sure if I was expected to be seated by a server or seat myself (didn't see a sign). While I hesitated, looking for a server to ask about their seating policy, a busboy asked if I was looking for a seat and directed me to an open spot at the bar. Pros: buns Cons: parking, understaffed, lack of fresh ingredients and options for people who don't like soggy french fries. more

best in town 6/9/2008

Finding that unique burger, not only in terms of superb flavor but served in a place that isn't in or near a mall and is frequented by locals, isn't always easy. Finding Sobelman's is a challenge but it is definitely worth it. Just order ""a Sobelman's"" (or a double Sobleman's if you're really hungry) and wash it down with a Sprecher Amber. Milwaukee's Best Burger 7/14/2006

This burger joint is a favorite of anyone who enters. They have recently moved the grill from behind the bar to upstairs which took away some of the atmosphere and life which was so enjoyable for so long. Even so, the burgers at Sobelmans along with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere are the best I have ever tasted. A toasted and grilled bun with peppers and onions giving the burger a little spice add to the flavors. Sobelman's has been a Marquette favorite for years because of its location in the valley. Sobelman's truly is Milwaukee's best burger if you are looking for a taste of Milwaukee this is the place to go. Pros: Burgers, Atmosphere Cons: Recently the grill was moved out of the main area taking away some of the noise and atmosphere more

Good place to visit on a cold Saturday afternoon 3/13/2006

I was driving around Milwaukee and friends in chicago were giving me directions to Sobelmans. I found it about 1:30pm. We waited at the door for 20 minutes on a 10 degree Febuary Saturday for a table for three. Had beer and had a chance to see everything going on in the small bar. When we were seated Mrs. Sobelman was our waitress. Figered this out from the reviews from the newspaper posted in the restroom(?). Ordered burgers and fries and more beer. We spent two hours in a very relaxed bar talking to our son. He is in college in Milwaukee. Many of the people there were Marquette students and parents. Clue: caps and coats. We weren't. Plan on going back to a very relaxed place to have time to visit and eat some wholesome food. more

best hamburger 1/21/2004

They have the best hamburger in Milwaukee! There fish fry is also very good. Enthusiastic staff and great owners. Everyone is treated like family after a few visits. They will even serve you the fish fry on Saturday if you don't make it on Friday. Lot's of regulars customers and some good specials (but I am stuck on the fish and burger). My sister-in-law wanted a chicken sandwich and was impressed. Pros: great food, great value, great staff more
