Smulekoffs Home Store

We purchased a couch, chair, ottoman, and leather recliner chair from Smulekoffs around 2002. The furniture was supposedly of high quality and we paid thousands in full retail. When the couch was delivered we were not happy with the quality of the material used in the seat and back cushions. Sadly, I didn’t have them take it back with them on the truck. The main complaint was that the front part of the seat cushions offered no support. The couch on the sales room floor had firm cushions, ours did not. We were happy enough with the furniture design and didn’t want to go through the hassle of returning, but we did request them to replace the fabric filling in the seat bottom cushion with some upholstery foam of good density and quality. This was like arguing with a stump. After several calls and complaints, they finally sent a “service technician” to our house. Sadly, all this person did was to patronizingly demonstrate to us how to fluff the cushions. Recently the upholstery on the cloth chair has worn through on one of the arms and the mechanism on the recliner has broken. It is no small frustration that the “high quality” purchase from the la-te-da furniture store in Cedar Rapdis didn’t even last us ten years. This has brought back memories of the awful post-delivery customer support and has now inspired this warning to other furniture shoppers out there. BEWARE of Smulekoffs. We will never go back. more

Smulekoffs is a wonderful store! I have purchased many things at Smulekoffs through the years. The customer service is fantastic and they even offered to deliver my china to my home to save me a trip to Cedar Rapids. Everything I have ever purchased there has been of superior quality. more

I have to be honest as I begin this review. My opinion of SMULEKOFFS is based solely on an experience I had while shopping there and not on their merchandise. The merchandise is nice, granted, but with so many different arrays of furniture stores out there, it seems to me that customer service should be the one thing that a store can do to set themselves out there above the competition. Unfortunately SMULEKOFFS did not do that. When I visited I was looking for a certain item. I searched on my own for sometime before I finally found myself wandering in that direction. I then had questions but no one seemed to be in the area. Locating someone after a search, I found 2 employees talking. Neither seemed anxious to help me so I asked my question, got a short answer and they turned back to their discussion. Feeling a bit foolish, I left the store and do not intend to return. I may be wrong here but I think if you are going to spend over $1000 for an item you should at least deserve some good customer service. Am I wrong?....I would love to hear someone elses take on this. It is, of course, as always my opinion.....the final one is up to you. more

This is a huge furniture store that has been in the Cedar Rapids area for a long time. They are a part of history. The window displays during the holiday season are neat to view. They do make the merchandise appealing. The employees are willing to work with you and when I was there, they were not pushy. more

Smulekoffs has been in downtown Cedar Rapids for a long time. It has several floors of furniture. They do have an elevator so you don't have to take the stairs. They also carry home decor items and rugs. I purchased an interesting clock here. They do have good customer service. I have found their prices to be on the high side. more
