In November 2013, we were referred to Dr. Simpson by our regular veternarian for a TECO-B0 surgery for a whippet. The whippet had a profound ear canal blockage - yeast infection, bacteria and scar tissue so severe our own Veternarian did not have a tiny scope to examine the ear drum. Dr. Simpson carefully and verbally explained the procedure as well drew pictures of the canal (thankfully as I process information visionally better than verbally). The surgery was successfully preformed and all went as predicted by Dr. Simpson. The follow up exam went smoothly and caution for care of the other ear was suggested. We found Dr. Simpson to be skilled, patient, professional and authentic. We found Dr. Simpson's staff to be professional and caring. I hope we do not have any more surgeries in any of our pet's futures, but if we do we will be sure to consult with Dr. Simpson.\r Lori Rose - Whippet Rescue and Placement - Oregon more

Sorry, the absolute worst veterinarian I've encountered. Dishonest to the extreme. Certainly has severe Aspergers Disorder also.\r She also was harassing via the phone, including by calling repeatedly at 6am. Telephonic-harassment, which is a crime. Police had to be called on her, twice. The police contacted her and ordered her to discontinue her phone harassment.\r Dr. Amelia Simpson subjected my family to repeated deceptive manipulation about her schedule, test results, prognosis, etc.\r I spoke with several people in the Council Crest and Forest Park area, and each (every one of them) were outraged by her gross impersonality, repeated dishonesty, and said they would absolutely never return to her. They found other doctors who objected to Dr. Simpson's incompetent and careless and hurried diagnosis and treatment, including unnecessary treatment.\r I met a colleague of her who knew her from the U-Pennsylvania vet school, and he said she is well known as a highly aggressive, intolerant, impatient, impersonal person.\r I was sickened by her drawn facial affect, her fake attempts to show sympathy, her grotesque manipulation and deception. A nightmare of a person. Near criminal harassment, police, negligence, proven dishonesty, fake demeanor, proven deception, etc. more

Very impressive, caring surgeon 8/26/2011

Last week, both of my dogs required surgery, one for laryngeal paralysis and the other for a torn ACL and meniscus. Dr. Simpson was thorough in her explanations, compassionate, set my expectations appropriately, and was genuine in her concern. I knew my dogs were in great hands. Dr. Simpson communicated with me throughout the day, and over the following days. I can't compliment Dr. Simpson or her staff enough for taking such great care of my pets. \r \r more

Competent and compassionate 7/4/2011

Dr. Simpson responded promptly to my vet's request for abdominal surgery asap on Guinny the Pooch, a corgi mix. She squeezed us into her schedule, briefed us thoroughly during the consultation, answered our questions, and showed sincere compassion for our concerns. Dr. Simpson came across to us as genuine, competent, and just the sort of surgeon my husband and I would trust with a family member. The surgery went well. Dr. Simpson was cautious and caring. I have every confidence in her abilities and I can't praise her highly enough for the how she handled this stressful situation. more

Wonderful Surgeon 5/16/2011

I was shocked to read the two negative reviews as my experience with Dr. Simpson and her staff was just the opposite. We took our Boston Terrier to Dr. Simpson last Friday after a wonderful specialty vet, Dr. Robert Franklin, had arranged for Lucy's surgery with her. All we knew was that Lucy had cancer and her prognosis was unknown. We feared we'd lose her. Dr. Simpson took her the very next day and fit her into her schedule by performing the surgery during her lunch time. My husband had the unpleasant task of dropping Lucy off in the morning, but came home filled with praise for the wonderful and caring staff and Dr. Simpson. He said they were truly caring and dog loving people and he knew Lucy was in good hands. Dr. Simpson called us immediately after surgery with the good news that Lucy's tumor was operable and that she was ""cautiously optimistic"" that her prognosis was good. When we picked Lucy up to take her to Dr. Franklin's for post op care overnight, we could see how excited and genuinely happy she was that the surgery had gone so well. There was nothing fake about it. She gave us clear and concise instructions on Lucy's care and told us to call immediately if we had any concerns. A few days later, I did call with a question about a rash on Lucy's stomach which I left on her answering machine. She called me back within 10 minutes. I highly recommend Dr. Simpson and would not hesitate to take either Lucy or her sister back to her if the need arose. more

Great animal surgeon, patient and kind 9/16/2010

Dr Simpson is approachable, caring, and a fabulous surgeon. \r My heart broke when my dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and I was faced with the decision to amputate her leg. When we first visited Dr Simpson I was aprehensive but she quickly showed me I was in good hands. \r She was kind and patient--I never felt rushed by her--and she took the time to answer all of my questions in clear terms. When she told me about K9 cancer and I got teary eyed she handed me the tissue box and said, "" I know, it is hard.""\r She let me process as we talked through all the options, never swaying me one way or the other, just giving me the financial and medical facts with a compassionate tone. I came to my own decision to amputate and we made an appointment for the next week. \r Dr Simpson encouraged me to call anytime with questions and to check in on my dog while she stayed the night at the hospital. And I did! The entire staff at Vetinary Surgical Center was warm and attentive. She also called me after surgery to see how we were doing. \r I saw her just yesterday to get Indi's sutures out. When it was time to take Indi to the exam room I asked if my boyfriend and I could come, too. Dr Simpson said, ""We can just do it right here."" She and the vet tech sat on the floor where Indi was lying comfortably so we could all be together. \r I trusted her with my dog's life and I would do it all over again. She is a smart surgeon with a gentle touch. I highly recommmed her to anyone who wants to the best medical care for their pet. more

Warning About Dr. Amelia Simpson DVM 6/24/2009

Beware of Dr. Amelia Simpson, please. Horrific personal skills. Frequently dishonest, and intentionally so. Underhanded. Misleading. Furthermore, when my wife and I saw her in her office at the Veterinary Surgical Center, she was void of any, any, sympathy. Yes doctors have to be objective, but they still can have at least some genuine sympathy. Amelia Simpson actually had an eerie giggle response to very serious issues, including serious injury and suffering. She made us just sick. To look at this doctor caring for our dog, treat us this way. What a black heart. more
