ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS 4/29/2011

The last review said "Anybody who complains about this school is complaining because they're trying to lay the blame on someone else for their failure in the profession." Well, this review is not to blame them for some failures. Yes she is right that you do have to apply yourself and practice. And they do know all 250 to 300 students by name. \r \r MY Honest Opinion:\r DONT get me wrong but I LOVE ALL MY TEACHERS from Ms. V to Mrs. M****... All the teachers DO HELP you the best they can in the little time that they have and i truly appreciate them. they do encourage you to practice but that IS up to the students what you do at home.I have absolutly nothing bad to say about them. I am passing my speed classes with no problem. you will make great friends at the school. But honestly, that is not what we are there for. We are there for our education in a comfortable environment!!!\r MOST of the admin is all about the MONEY no lie. Our money is obviously getting spent on bull crap ra more

Happy Future Graduate 3/29/2011

I have been a student at this school for almost 3 years. I am on track to graduate by June (I have passed my 200s and am working on apprentice hours in order to be able to take the qualifier.) the staff has always been very helpful with ANYTHING I've needed. My favorite teacher is Mr. M, and I will defend him and the other staff members against anyone who would make rude comments about them. They're curriculum was slightly outdated when I started, but if you were focused and actually willing to commit yourself as a student it would not have impeded your scholastic performance.\r Learning to be a court reporter is like learning a new language and trying master an instrument at the same time. Unfortunately, the majority of students who enroll there either do not have the physical ability to complete the program (ie the instrumental portion) or are too lazy to apply themselves scholastically and actually practice the material in order to pass speeds. These students often tend to blame thei more

After your money 3/4/2010

This school is willing to charge you 10k a year to attend. unfortunately, that 10k does not pay for soap, lights in the bathrooms, hot water in the bathrooms, working toilets, real chairs, roach exterminations, ceilings that don't leak, proper computer equipment, or mold removal. The school does not adhere to the grading standards set by the California State Reporters Board, the people who give the licensing test. They will tell you that they are accredited with the National Court Reporters Association, but they had their accreditation revoked. There is rampant favoritism, as well as lewd sexual comments made by male faculty towards females. They can maintain the school because they are one of only two schools in Southern California. They are also the only school that has non-transferable credits, and does not grant you a B.A, unlike other court reporting schools. They do not offer realtime, a valuable skill to any court reporter working today, and have no way of fixing a broken machi more

all about money 9/14/2005

You should only choose Sierra Valley Business College if you do not care at all about learning and you just want a piece of paper entitling you to be a court reporter. They don't really care about their students and they treat their faculty like robots. Definitely DO NOT take a job "teaching" for them. there is no teaching involved. PROS: none CONS: jerks more
