The food tasted alright, however there are issues with service as well as lack of seating. Their attitude being not so positive and the prices (they have just raised their prices)...

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/1/2012

If you like being ripped off, by all means, go to this place. I like their food, but the woman owner helped herself to more than 20% of my tab every time I ordered lunch, take out, without my authorization. I figured it out and went back, making sure I was putting a ZERO in the tip line and yep - she continued to charge me $3 tip for a $10 lunch, every time. That is THEFT. She's lucky I haven't filed a police report. more

Best Persian food in all of Portland 3/10/2011

I was just reading the reviews and hated to see some of the negative comments about the owner. First off it's not really a kid friendly place for dine-in, small very busy and loud. Lots of hustle and bustle. So if you are looking for somewhere to coddle the little ones it's not Shiraz. They are very fast for take-out so take it home for the family. They have way more carry out than dine-in due to space. The food is the best in town and fairly priced. I have never had better hummus anywhere and I like hummus so have many to compare it to. The owners are Persian and from a different culture, a hard working take charge type. Some of their employees have been there for several years so they must be fine to work for. We have always been treated great and have been given perks as frequent customers. Once when I was short on cash he handed me $20 that more than covered what I was short and said pay me back the next time. in was in. He didn't write it down or take my name, we went in again the next week and paid him back. Even if I was treated poorly (which I never have been) I would go back for the food regardless. They are opening a second location downtown in the Pearl in March that will have more seating maybe that will be better for the kids, but who cares if it's not go for the amazing food! more

You have to try this restaurant! 9/18/2010

Stopped in late last night, the owner was not only happy to see us but never made us feel as though we needed to hurry even though we were past store hours. more

Not so good 8/23/2010

Awful and a Big thumbs down... the owner is extremely rude and will degrade staff and customers... not a good experience at all. more

What a find! 7/29/2009

My husband and I love Persian food. We've tried the Oasis in Murray (overpriced) and Blue Tangerine (mildly overpriced, not real authentic) in Bridgeport, and Nicholas (great restaurant but we do like Shiraz better). Shiraz is the best by far. We don't mind the small space. It's nice to see our food being cooked. Pros: Food, Service Cons: small space (but I like an intimate/authentic atmosphere) more

Rude ! 5/11/2009

We went there twice. The first time we got a takeout and the food to be very good. The second time we took our whole family (children: 3 yrs old and 1 yr old) for lunch. The owner was extremely rude and had some harsh words for my 3 year old son who was playing on the patio (exact words: Do not destroy my plants and furniture!...the poor buy was only looking around and the owner screamed this out infron of other guests seated outside.) We will NEVER go there again nor recommend this to our community! He even said something rude (you are not our only customers!) when we went to order some side dish). This guy is unbelieveabley rude! Pros: good food Cons: extremely rude owners/not child friendly more

Best Gyros and Kabobs In Town! 12/30/2008

The food is amazing. The prices are very affordable. The owner and staff are extremely friendly. I frequent the place... 1 - 2 times a week. There isn't a lot of inside seating, but it is fun to sit at the bar type seating. They have a lot of seating outside when the weather is nice. I highly recommend Shiraz. Pros: Great food, service, and outside seating Cons: Not a lot of inside seating... but it is cozy and I am always seated promptly. more

Shiraz restaurant , a mixed feeling and a final thumbs down. 8/28/2008

The food tasted alright, however there are issues with service as well as lack of seating. Their attitude being not so positive and the prices (they have just raised their prices) makes this place a two star recommendation as far as i am concerned. Pros: taste is right Cons: too expensive with their raised prices more

Best Persian Food in Portland and very nice place 8/1/2008

I don?t know what the lady bellow is talking about. I am sure she has lost herself and forgotten her mother tong. Or; maybe she thinks she is to good to be a Persian. The only place she must go to dine in, has to be the hells kitchen. Most definitely she must have something against Shiraz. Me and my family have been to Shiraz several times in the past two years. Also I have sent several friends there and always we have been happy. The owner and his wife are very nice people including all the workers and we never had any experience but good and pleasant. The food is always good and fresh. They are busy all the time. Prices are well to comfortable, quality and quantities are unbelievable. Chicken kabob is the best including other dishes. Read other feedbacks and you can judge yourself. Pros: Great and fresh food, great people, low price Cons: Small amount of Dinning space inside. more

Horrible food, Horrid service!! 7/17/2008

I have to say that as someone who has recently relocated to the Portland area, I was eager to try out Shiraz for its Persian entrees. Needless to say not only was the food bad but the service was downright horrible. The staff seems really overworked and tense. The owner is extremely rude and was offended that I spoke to him in English rather than Persian. I am more dominant in English than Farsi and I felt that he was really crude and out of place to criticise me. Anyways, even if you can tolerate the crude owner, the kabobs were downright leathery and gross. The rice was dry and old, which is terrible for Persian cuisine. If anyone here truly wants fresh, and tasty Persian/Medi food, I highly recommend Blue Tangerine in the Bridgeport shopping center. Best to all! Pros: None Cons: rude owner, terrible food, tight place, overworked staff more

Great Food, Great Service 4/18/2008

Absolutely the best middle eastern food in the area. I was raised in New York City, a large cultural mecca, ethnic food everywhere... I have not doubt if they opened a place in NYC it would be a HUGE. Pros: Great food, great people, low price Cons: Parking, small place more

The Best Persian food in the NW. 4/7/2008

Shiraz has absolutly some of the best food around. It is a very small restaurant but great in the summer when you can sit outside. I usually always get orders to go once a week, but have dined there on many occasions. Try it for your self, you wont be disapointed. Pros: Best Persian Food in the Northwest. Price Cons: Small amount of Dinning space inside. more

Great food -- an exotic option for catered business lunches! 3/14/2008

Shiraz Grill is more than meets the eye. True, it's a small space. But the flavors are huge! Sit at the counter and be entertained by the head cook as he uses sign language to communicate to his bus boy (he said he doesn't want to shout). All the employees were very nice. Several apparent regulars came in while I was sitting there and the server and cook often knew their names and asked if they wanted ""the usual"". While I can't say if this tiny restaurant's food is 'authentic Persian' (I'll leave that to the other reviewers who know Persian cuisine), I can testify to the excellent flavors of the beef kabob, gyro, hummus, and particularly the chicken kabob(it's very orange!). My one and only complaint is that they include cilantro in their salads. Too bad for those of us who detest the soapy herb, because the dressing looked very good. Pros: Great food, fast, inexpensive Cons: Small seating area more

BEST CHICKEN KABOB IN OREGON 1/21/2008

Don?t be reluctant to walk into this well put together whole in the wall 15 seat diner style Iranian cafe. This place is actually a haven for Kabob lovers everywhere. As an avid Kabob connoisseur, I have traveled the world from the east coast, through Europe, into the Middle East and even Asia in search of the finest Kabob. Now I won?t say Shiraz takes my number one vote so far worldwide, but in the state of Oregon, no other Middle Eastern restaurant comes close. Now usually my favorite Kabobs are Afghani or Lebanese, but Shiraz has a great Iranian recipes and a great grill. Pros: Kabobs Cons: Seating/Size of establsihment more

Great Custome Service 10/29/2007

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT.THE FOOD IS GREAT .THE EMPLOYES ARE SO FRIENDLY AND HARWORKING.THERE ARE JUST 2 OR 3 EMPLOEYES WORK THERE ,BUT THEY WORK VERY HARD ,I THANKS ALOT TO THEM . more

Fantastic food for the price! 9/20/2007

Order in for the office 12 out of 12 loved it! Brought home for husband and kids, loved it too! The rice is light and delicious! The chicken is well seasoned without being spicy. I really like the fresh herbs in the salad but some (kids) might find them too strong. Try it! Pros: great take out Cons: parking and limited seating more

Good food, decent prices, some tension 8/16/2007

As a Persian man I have dined here for both lunch and dinner several times. The food is great and for the prices the quantity is great. As with any establishment there are some drawbacks. Here are a few of them. The place is small and cozy and by cozy I mean tiny. The service is good most times. The couple times I have gone there recently it has been a bit busier and there was only one server (who was an American and quite funny and good.) it was a little crazy with conversation everywhere and not a place to go to take a date. I have experienced a bit of tension there a couple times however, which is what I assume the other reviewer on here was talking about. I have witnessed the owner or whom ever yelling and berating the other Persian workers in Farsi. As someone who speaks the language and understands, it was very uncomfortable. I as well have witnessed a busy evening or two in the past month where the employees inside and outside were working hard and struggling while said owner sat and drank and watched. Only to go inside and tell them to ""Hurry up"" or insult them with other non-compliments. The food is great and I will continue to go there. I recommend it, only if you can dine in tension. As far as Persian food it beats Oasis' Americanized garbage time and time again. Pros: Food, Location, Music Cons: Size, Ambience, Tense more
