This place is terrible, not the shiki of years past 11/13/2011

We went here last night with a party of 20 and a baby. The manager hustled us in, and seemed pretty frenetic. The restaurant is tiny and cramped, with only two teppan grills. He fitted 14 of us at one of the teppan grills, and the other 6 adults and a baby at a booth clearly designed for four people. The baby was in a high chair, my wife was sitting in the aisle, and 5 very cramped adults wedged into a 4 seat booth. I attempted to bring another chair over so we weren't so cramped, and the manager was very rude. He was telling us that the table should fit five people, and was giving us hassle, saying that we were blocking the aisleway (when there was definitely ample room to get by, and we were in the corner booth of the building). We were trying to get him to do something about it, but I had to raise my voice to get him to actually put us at another table (mind you the restaurant was only about 40% full). He made a table for 6 and a baby, and literally did put it in the middle of the aisle, so we couldn't have anyone standing around the table, because every person passing from the front to the back of the restaurant slid by us. It was very degrading, and something I never dreamed an apparently good restaurant would do...mind you, it was the manager that was causing all of the tension. We were told that we would be able to order teppan grilled food, and the chef would make the first batch for everyone sitting at the teppan table, and the second batch for us. When it came time to order, the manager came over, bruskly told the waitress that teppan style wasn't allowed for our table, and then walked away. The head of our party talked to him, and requested that we be able to receive the same style food that we went there for...the manager went over to the owner, and was ranting to him for a couple minutes, looking right at our table, complaining and pointing. Finally, he said we would be able to, but it would come from the kitchen, not the teppan grill that we were sitting right in front of...which made no sense. At that point I wanted to walk out of the restaurant, but we stayed for the teppan food. Their food was really lackluster, no spice or seasoning or anything. Even the people sitting at the teppan grill said the same thing. I ordered the new york teriyaki steak, and they brought me new york strip steak with a side of teriyaki sauce...I mean, this stuff is just low grade junk. My sister was complaining that her filet mignon was fatty, and my wife said the same of her filet mignon. The parking lot is definitely not big, as someone else said, as it is behind a gas station, and in front of a hotel parking lot. For teppan, this place is not worth your time. Definitely go to Hibachi in Anaheim Hills, their food and service are light years ahead of this dump. Also, I believe their prices are cheaper. About 10 years ago, shiki was good, but I believe it had different owners back then when we would go. Now the interior looks more like a japanese marie callenders than a teppan restaurant, and has the service and food to match. more

Great Japanese Restaurant 2/8/2010

I just went there for lunch, and found it the best Japanese restaurant I've found in the Orange County area. Pros: Great Miso soup Cons: Hard to find more

Great quality food and service 5/31/2009

I have been there three times and loved it so much that I took my whole family over there... no doubt, the food is fresh, excellent, the service great... I have tried the sushi bar which I loved and we had a dinner at the tapaniaki table where the chef not only prepared the best food but offered an entertaining moment... you can definitely bring children who will love the owner's attention and kindness... believe it or not, he goes from table to table to check on everyone and never forgets to spoil the kids by giving them presents that he seems to be choosing with care... this is a very very good and enjoyable experience that you will make there... so do not hesitate, you won't regret it!!! Pros: Best sushis I have had so far Cons: Can't really think of one!!! more

Shikified!!! 5/5/2009

My family and I have been going to Shiki for years. We call it getting Shikified. Because that is exactly how you feel when you are done. Your stomach will always be full and the service will always keep you smiling. \r Pros: amazing service, amazing food Cons: Hard to find more

Great Japanese food! You can't go wrong here! 9/14/2008

This place is great! I have been going here for many years now, and have never once been disappointed by anything. The service is second to none. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. The owner is a really nice guy who makes all of his customers feel special. The sushi is great, I have never had a bad piece there, and the fish is always fresh. And the hibachi table is really cool to go for special occasions. more

Awesome Sushi Bar!!! 8/9/2007

I have been going to Shiki for a few years now, and I love how they remodeled the resturant. They have a really cool sushi bar, and a huge plasma tv showing underwater ocean. It was very rexaling and peaceful. The sushi is very fresh, and the employees are really outgoing. I go every Friday with my boyfriend. They have great prices, and fabulous food! Pros: Great Sushi Bar, friendly employees, Fresh and prices are great Cons: Although it is hard to find, you will be happy you found it. Just look for the huge signs off the 55 freeway and Katella more

Best sushi I have had in OC!!!! 6/14/2006

I love sushi. I love this resturaunt. The service is great, and fast, not crowded. Two hibachi grills. They completely redid the resturaunt, new everything and looks great. The food is of superior quality. The scallops I had today were the freshest I may have ever had and as sweet as any I know I have and covered in smelt caviar, a touch of hotsauce and not much rice in the hand roll. Almost all scallops! The chefs are knowledgable and polite. I enjoy a chef that is entertaining but GREAT food (not just good) is better. I got spoiled eating sushi in LA and had not found anyplace that could give me the quality and atmosphere I desired... until now!! Pros: Hard to find, remodled, relaxed Cons: Hard to find, Slightly more expensive than avr. more
