I am very unhappy with my experience with Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group. I initially came here because someone I know used to bring her dog here, and I regret choosing to come here. I called and asked how much a physical would be, and how much my procedure would cost. I was told the physicals for new animals are free. I made my appointment, and ended up calling back thinking ""wow what a great deal"" and asked if I could bring my cat as well and if that would be free too. I spoke to a different woman this time, she confirmed that it would be. Great! Last question was how much a distemper parvo shot would cost in total so Id know how much money to bring since I was bringing cash. I was told ""just $16"". Which is much cheaper than the vet I was trying to transfer from. Very anxious for my appointment, I packed up my pets. I arrived at my appointment and was placed in a room, where I kid you not, waited for a FULL hour before a doctor came in. Someone could have at least checked my pets vitals in that time. I tried to stay optimistic. Until the vet finally comes in and gives my dog her distemper parvo shot and then somehow gets confused and gives her a bordetella as well which she did not need. Which really upset me because her paperwork showed she wasnt due for one, I had just updated it less than a few months ago, and the ONLY shot I asked for for her was a distemper parvo so how was there confusion. How do you just give her a random shot?? Then it comes time to pay and they try to charge me for an ""additional physical"" when I was told both would be free! I eventually got the charged taken off the itemized bill, only to notice my distemper parvo shot was being charged as two seperate shots! when its just one shot. The reason was ""some people just want parvo"" well okay but I wanted DISTEMPER PARVO and called in advance and asked how much it would be and was told $16 and its only ONE shot not two so im expecting a charge of 16 not 32. its not like you gave her one shot of distemper and one shot of parvo. Very dissapointed in this Vet. Will not reccomend it. more

Don't go here. 8/26/2014

I also wish there were zero stars to give. What happened to this place? No principles. They overcharge, are sneaky with hidden charges and unnecessary steps. They take advantage of people's good intentions. Cheats. I reported them to the BBB, my credit card, and now I'm trying to find a way to let you know. Don't go here. more

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Clipsham for years. He has always given my pets above average care with great wisdom and compassion. I highly recommend him. more

STAY AWAY FROM SHERMAN OAKS VETERINARY GROUP on Woodman Ave and Moorpark! They KILLED my healthy sweet dog after convincing me that she needed 2 rear knee surgeries at the same time. Dr WESTON RICHTER cut her up, and left town to vacation while my baby was in recovery, and left NO one to help her if something went wrong. My baby was overmedicated on RIMADEL and METACAM, and other pain meds. When she was throwing the medicine up, Dr. Shyla Franklin at the same vet group, and Jan Everson, the office manager insisted that the baby still needed the METACAM. They did NOT flush her out, but instead kept giving her pain medicine, and while she was getting sicker and sicker, they did nothing to help her, and this includes DR SHYLA FRANKLIN, and DR. WISELY , along with the original DR. WESTON RICHTER who will tell you your animal needs surgery NO MATTER WHAT the case may really be. After they were sick of my trying to save my dog, JAN EVERSON ( the office murderer, oh, I meant manager) sent us to the ANIMAL EMERGENCY on Ventura Blvd( which SOVG owns , in Studio city to kill my dog in such a horrific way that I cannot even write about it. They have NO VET with these poor animals overnight, yet charge you as if your pet is in the hospital. The point is not the money, but the lack of care and compassion that your animal will receive there by 8 out of 10 of their vets. The fair thing that should happen to JAN EVERSON, and all the Doctor's that did this to my dog, should be for them to be overdosed with Metacam and Rimadal, and all the other pain medicine they felt my dog could handle, until they expire from being overdosed, exactly as my dog did. If they could suffer the way these poor animals suffer under their care, maybe they would stop killing animals, and stop their horrific practices. Until then, they will continue to KILL animals, and I pray that your animal is NOT one of the ones that they over medicate, or misdiagnose, or KILL. Stay away, and go ANYWHERE else for great pet care. Find a good, loving, vet that has 24 hour care BEFORE you need the VET! more

I was referred to this clinic by my brother who took his dogs here for holistic treatment. I've been taking my elderly cat here since 2008 for chronic constipation, and have become a regular here since. I started with the holistic approach accompanied by enemas and a laxative which was helping in the early stages, but then my cat progressively got worse. The holistic Doctor who practiced here retired and so I saw various different Doctors here. My cat was diagnosed improperly by the various Doctors as her condition worsened. The frequent visits to the clinic and treatments were costing a lot of money and took a lot of my time. The treatments my cat received while at the clinic always worked for "short term relief", but it was stressful on my cat and she remained unstable. My cat was there almost every week. STAY AWAY !! 1/5/2012

IF YOU LOVE YOUR PETS DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE !! So I took my dog SISSY in because he was coughing. The Dr. took x-rays and said it was walking pneumonia and sent us home with meds (total was over $1,000 ). Then, while Sissy was still taking the meds, I had a friend bring Sissy in again cause he was throwing up after eating, which did happen before, but was rare. NOW he puked EVERY time he ate. So the Dr. scared my friend into leaving Sissy overnight because supposedly he needs anti-nausea IV, he's dehydrated, etc.... and he takes another set of x-rays, then says Sissys spleen and pancreas are enlarged AND HE DIDN'T NOTICE IT ON THE FIRST SET OF X-RAYS !!! Now I'm feeding Sissy boiled chicken, beef, rice, nothing works, including the meds. My dog didn't need a night in the hospital, they just wanted money ( a little over $1,500 this time ). 2 weeks after all those meds are done, I take him in again because HE WAS EXACTLY THE SAME !!!! Still puking every time he ate. And Sissy's still coughing from the original reason I took him here !!The Dr. Robert Clipsham D.V.M. Sissys original Dr. was not in, so Dr. Shyla Franklin D.V.M comes in the room and tells me this isn't a follow up appointment because she's never looked at Sissy and I would have to pay for her to see Sissy because she has to look through all his records and it's like starting all over again. !Are you kidding me? This Dr. Shyla Franklin D.V.M had a horrible attitude and was so rude so I went OFF !!!! I've never reviewed anything online before, but I had to warn people who love their pet. The $ isn't the issue if my dog was in any way better, but he's still sick. And I know Vets just try to troubleshoot with sick dogs, and things don't always work, but EVERYONE in this office is rude as hell and the doctors seem incompetent. NEVER BRING YOUR PET HERE !!!! Beware!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/22/2011

In summary, don't go to SOVG unless you are willing to tolerate some of the things that I experienced.\r \r 1) Long holds on the phone when calling- just like when you call the DWP or phone company. Sometimes, they forget there is someone on hold. You then may have to call back after giving up on them remembering that there is someone on hold. Try to call for yourself to check.\r \r 2) Being told that your pet needs "very important (and expensive) and critical tests" and then not being informed of the results properly or not at all. They said that someone would call be back with the results for my cat the next day, but they didn't call me back. I went there in person, only to find the waiting room packed. I waited for 2 hours in that waiting room until the place closed. Then Dr R talked to me about all kinds of things unrelated to my tests. I never did get the results from the tests as promised. I see that other reviews mention this as well. \r \r 3) Being given wrong medications in more

Dr. Clipsham 4/3/2011

My cat has been with Dr. Clipsham for the past 6 years. He's amazing and the most thorough vet I have ever worked with. He treated my then-14-year old kitty for cancer last year. We caught it early enough and she is a strong 15 1/2 year old now. He recommends lots of preventative and natural medicine and he never rushes you out the door. My questions have always been answered when I leave. He gets 5 stars. \r \r The office is very busy and the ladies behind the desk are often preoccupied and not customer service oriented. Hence, the 4 stars. \r \r To me, the great care from Dr. Clipsham is worth the 10 minute hassle at the front desk. \r \r Make an appointment, don't walk-in. more

I love Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group and its staff 3/4/2011

I called Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group on a Saturday, at 8:30 a.m., to make an appointment to have Petey, my ill cat, euthanized. I was seen at 9:30 a.m., held my cat in my arms until the end. more

Susie Q 12/23/2010

If you look at the blogs on this place you will see many reviews, most of them bad, which is why they get an average of two stars out of 5, last time I checked. What you read is true; they do all kinds of unnecessary tests and procedures so they can ratchet up the price, and they don't really care if they drain your wallet and put your animal through all kinds of nonsense in the process. I told them I wanted my dog checked for a tenant tear and they did a pile or x rays and then told me the x rays would not detect a tenant tear and that I should come back the following Monday when a vet was there that could manipulate the knee of my dog which would determine a tear. So, why did I spend close to 400 dollars again??? Stay away from this joint. more

HELP THEY BROKE MY DOGS LEG 11/23/2010

Has anyone else had anything like this happen? I have been going to this vet for 15 years - they are rediculously expensive but I have trusted them up until now! They said his hip got dislocated somehow but he was just fine when I brought him in. Two surgeries later - tons of money - now I just found out that his hip is dislocated again because the "broken leg" wasn't repaired well!! What broken leg - they never said that his leg was broken. This makes so much sense now - the recovery has been so so long - well of course if he was trying to heal from a broken leg and an dislocated hip!!! Help - any thoughts anyone? more

seems ok to me 8/12/2010

Dr. Hickam was very concerned about my dog and was able to diagnose him when another vet misdiagnosed him prior. Not sure if he was over tested or medicated but she was the only one who figured it out and told me what to do. She was very kind to my dog and upset when I didn't initially follow her directions so it shows she cares. Office staff seems very busy. more

Read your reviews! 6/15/2010

They should read their reviews all over the internet: rude people at the desk, greedy, errors. These are not here by accident! Pros: doesn't smell Cons: they don't know your animal more

TOO BUSY, TOO FRANTIC 5/20/2010

This office was recommended to me and for minor things they seemed competent, although I go at all times of the day and they are ALWAYS way too crowded and busy. \r \r It seems like they have a huge clientele, but it makes me nervous how little time and attention my dog gets from the vet.\r They missed my dog's thyroid problem, although I brought her in for skin problems and weight gain--which happen to be two signs of hypothyroid problems. The vets don't seem to listen unless you get assertive and kind of impolite. I hate that--why can't people do their jobs right without the client having to be hardnosed with them???\r \r I'd say what would improve their service would be to stop trying to get everyone in at the same time. They should limit appointments and the vets should spend adequate time reviewing each animal's chart before making "quickie" decisions that end up costing the client more money than was necessary. If they improved in this regard, I would recommend them more highly. more

Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group is Nothing Without Dr Scanlon 1/8/2010

Dr Scanlon ONLY. The front office sucks, with a couple exceptions. Mostly rude, lazy, etc... However, 'part time' vet and holistic expert/accupunturist Dr. Nancy Scanlon is world class. If you have a 'senior' dog or cat -- her understanding of arthritis and age issues is incredible. She has cured dogs that others have wanted to put down. Scanlon is the best! I think she only works Weds- Fri.. more

First Class Vet 10/27/2009

We have been taking our animals here for quite some time and love this place! It is very easy to get an appointment, they have great hours, and have drop-in times too. We LOVE Dr. Clipsham! He always takes his time when looking at our animals and goes above and beyond what he needs to do to make sure that your animal is okay. They provide many services here including acupuncture for your animals. The staff is also very friendly and knowledgeable. more

We love Sherman Oaks Vet Group 10/26/2009

I love Sherman Oaks Vet! Everyone there loves my cat Brian and are always excited to see him. SOVG has been my one stop shop for years. They have food, shampoos, treats, and collars. They always have cats up for adoption, my daughter loves going to the vet with us just to see the kittens. The girls at the front are great with us and always try to get us in and out as quick as possible, even when the place is packed. Dr. Scanlan has helped us tremendously with Brian. When we couldn't figure out why he wasn't eating, she was recommended to us for acupuncture which we are now firm believers in. She's amazing with him and he loves the attention. Now he's happy, healthy, and ready to roll. more
