I have been a Shecky's e-mail list subscriber for years. Every once in a while I will pick up one of their guides (Best in New York and the Bar, Club & Lounge Guide are two of my favorites) for myself or as a gift for a friend who has just moved here. I have been a fan and encouraged others to get on the Shecky's bandwagon.
I have been telling myself for at least 4 years to pick up tickets for one of their events (held at the Puck Building with a goodie bag to boot - I am a sucker for goodie bags). This February, I buckled and bought tickets for both Beauty Night Out & Girls Night Out (a shopping extravaganza).
As a former event planner, I was very disappointed in Beauty Night Out. Lines were out of control, hallway traffic was not being tended to and neither paying guests nor vendors (working 8-10 hours per day) could get a glass of water....apparently no water company wanted to sponsor (ha ha).
Girls Night Out used the space more efficiently and seemed to have a decent flow for guest traffic. I was still bummed at the end of the night. Although I like the idea of seeing vendors that do not have their own shops necessarily (those who rely on internet and shows to sell their wares), I felt that there was not a wide variety of merchandise at all. So many of the tables were jewelry - not something I was interested in buying. Many of the vendors had also been at Beauty Night Out (even though they were not make-up/skincare vendors).
I am glad I tried it all out (and I love those goodie bags, even though my bag differed greatly from those who were picked up later in the evening at Girls Night Out...poor planning on packing those bags in advance perhaps?), but will just stick to the books from now on.
