Decent Ethiopian, but not very flavorful 4/13/2007

By sheer coincidence, I happened to eat here one day after eating at this place's sister restaurant on N. 1st St. My impression was much the same at both places: average. My major complaint is that although the food had a decent amount of spiciness, there wasn't much in the way of flavor. Granted, I'm in the middle of spring allergies, but I can still taste my wife's cooking. Also, I'm not a fan of eating either with my fingers or needing to use a lot of bread to scoop up my food. I probably should have asked for a plate and utensils, but I wanted to get the genuine ethnic experience. I'll give credit to the kitchen, though, for making a complete sampler platter at 3:00 PM on a Saturday afternoon with good speed. more

Very good Ethiopian food with ethnic cozy atmosphere. Vegetarian selection was also good - lentils especially were very good. Ours was served family style in a big dish with the spongy tortilla type bread base - which you are supposed to eat with your hands. As one reviewer recommended we did ask for the hot red sauce and it was amazing. Pros: Good food, open late, good location Cons: None more

Great Restaurant 5/31/2006

One of the best places to get Ethiopian food in America. As the other reviewer noted service can be subpar at times but your waiter/waitress (there is just one waiter at all times) will always be friendly and attentive trying to please you as best they can. I could rave about how good the food is but I wont instead I'll just recommend that you go there and try it yourself. Great food, slow service 11/11/2005

After trying a number of Ethiopian restaurants in many cities, this gets my vote as the best one in the bay area. The menu is the standard Ethiopian fare with good vegetarian and meat selections. But be prepared to wait 20-45 minutes for your food to arrive. Never figured out why it takes so long, and could be a reason I think the food is so good, I'm so hungry by the time it gets to the table. If you like a little extra spice (heat), ask for the red sauce. Pros: great food, almost never full Cons: Very slow service more
