Best hair salon for color and cut! 2/1/2011

I cannot say enough great things about Sarah Hammel as far as a colorist. She truly is so talented with an eye for perfection. My hair has never looked better! I have very longthinck hair and am very picky! She knows what she is doing and it shows. I get endless compliments. I have my mother come to her from the midwest, and I am even having my girlfriend from Australia get her hair done with Sarah when she flies into town next month! more

RUN, do not walk, to see DJ! 11/12/2010

I've never received more compliments on my hair than i do after David John (""DJ"") started cutting/highlighting my hair. I went to several pricey salons in LA before I was introduced to DJ 3 years ago and have never looked back. His cuts grow out really well and are easy to maintain. The color is subtle and very natural looking (a MUST for me). He'll challenge you to try new things but always listens to what you want. He's also just FUN. You walk out looking and feeling like a million bucks! Sure it's not cheap but I think it's truly value for the money. The adage you get what you pay for is certainly true here. DJ IS WORTH EVERY CENT. The fact that everyone I've sent to him sticks with him - in a town filled with stylists! - is very telling. If you want your hair to look better than ever, run do not walk to see David John! An additional bonus: have Janice do your makeup and brows while you are there. You won't regret it. more

DJ is the best ever.... 11/4/2010

If you are looking for an exceptional haircut and color experience...DJ is your man. In my opinion, trying to find someone to give you perfect blond highlights is essentially close to impossible. I have never received more compliments about my hair since starting to see DJ 5 years ago...and many times people are shocked to know that I have highlights because they are so beautiful and natural. A few years ago i moved from LA to San Francisco and after attempting to find a great hair experience and not being satisfied...I now fly down to see DJ on a regular basis and it is well worth it. I love DJ and you will too! more

If you really want to get what you envisioned go to Rachel Carney!!! I've been dying to do the ombre dye and she did it better then I could have ever wanted!!! I love, love it AND I love, love HER. She is so amazing at just knowing what will look good on you. more

BEST STYLIST EVER!! OLIVIER!!!! LA location!!! Melrose 6/25/2010

I have always had stylist who were really nice but inevatably would at some point decide to get creative and DECIDE how long my hair should be or how many layers I should have! Now I have thick hair and its hard to maintain on my own.. so when they get artsy I'm basically screwed.. Until I met Olivier. He has been my stylist since that day 3 years ago and I swear Paris gave me the best gift by sending him over! First of all he cured my semi-mullet fancy look my old stylist (from an amazing upscale beverly hills salon) had given me and has since kept my hair healthy and MANAGABLE! Put it this way I get out of the pool dry out in fresh air and people still ask about my hair cut!! He is simply amazing! and he sooo does not get scissor happy thank god!! I sent my friend over who has broken super thin hair and now her hair is growing and fabulous too:) did i mention he gives complimentary little bang trims in between cuz he is money conscious about MY budget??!! love him!! Oh and ps I know he has Oscar award winning actresses as clients:) but my lips are sealed as who!! :) Pros: HE ACTUALLY listens to what you want!! more

Best Haircut and Blow Dry 3/31/2010

I see Caile Noble at John Frieda and I have to tell you that he is one of the most amazing stylists. It is by far the best haircut i have ever had, even when it grows out it is still in perfect shape. I also love just going for a blow out... You walk out of the salon feeling great and ready to go to your event. The salon has great staff, wonderful service and not to mention how beautiful it is. I love the Shu Uemura Shampoo and the John Frieda Lavish Lift Root Boost!!!!! If you want a great haircut and blow dry see Caile you will be very happy!! Rachel is amazing 3/22/2010

I came to Rachel on a recommendation from one of my girlfriends after my hair was destroyed at another salon. She spent a lot of time listening to my horror story and explaining what she had to do to fix it, which I appreciated because I was nervous about the whole thing. When she was done with my hair it looked better then I ever imagined it could! It's been over a month and I'm still getting compliments. Pros: pool, friendly staff more

Great Experience 8/6/2009

Having had great past experiences at the Frieda salon in NYC, I made an appointment with Abby and Whitney to correct a poor color job (not done by any Frieda salon) and have my hair cut. I don't usually write reviews but these women and the entire staff are top notch. The salon has a great ambiance; wall-to-wall sliding glass doors surround the picturesque center pool. The youthful and gorgeous staff is talented and friendly. I did not come in with pictures or detailed instructions but my desires were listened to and I am another thrilled client. Best Stylist in LA 11/25/2008

David John, formerly of Fred Segal Beauty in Santa Monica, has recently moved to the Serge Normant @ John Frieda salon. I've been a client of his for 12 years - an eternity for someone as obsessed with hair as I am - and he is an absolute genius as both a colorist and stylist. My sister travels from San Diego to have him do her hair, my mother travels from the San Fernando Valley and my sister-in-law comes from Westlake Village. People stop us all on the street to remark on the beauty of our hair. And he is a darling; someone I'm thrilled to call my friend. RUN, don't walk, to Melrose Place to have him do your hair. You won't be disappointed. more

""i won't go to anyone but david john. he's a master for cut and color, and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. that's why i followed him from fred segal to john frieda. i would follow him anywhere, truly. i'd follow him to a van down by the river if that's where he was doing hair. he's THAT good. luckily, he recently went to the john frieda salon. the most beautiful place. tranquil, serene, friendly. it's very uber-chic LA with celebrities and models, and very stylish folks, BUT shockingly everyone is so nice! i could spend an entire weekend there if they let me. when i explain a cut or color to david, it's like he's a mind reader. he always knows exactly what i'm after and miraculously delivers. i'm constantly changing my hair, so this is no small feat. i truly believe he is an artist--and his chair is seriously my happy place. he's the best. i wouldn't let anyone else touch my hair."" more

Great Stylist 8/9/2008

Just had my haircut with Whitney and it was a wonderful experience. The haircut was everything that I asked for and more. Whitney didn't rush when another client came in. Instead she let another stylist handle the other client. She gave me a great haircut without me having to bring in a picture. I definitely recommend this salon. I had also tried Tyron and he was fantastic too. They are very well skilled. The only place in L.A. that's below $200 but worth it. Pros: great skills, great staff Cons: pricey more

Louise Moon does the BEST hair extensions in Los Angeles 7/30/2008

I have had extensions for 6 years now. I have found that Great Lengths is the best system for me. I want the best hair and feel of attachments i can get. I was recommended highly to see Louise Moon at the John Frieda Salon as she has done many celebrities hair extensions and has an incredible eye for color and what is needed for the end result. I have a very sensitive scalp and she is the only one i found who is GENTLE!!! I also found out that she is also a freelance stylist who also does print work in the celebrity and fashion business.So i got not only fantastic extensions but also a creative look that suited me. She is a fantastic haircutter (which is were the magic comes in) I can't tell you how many times my extensions were ruined because i got a lousy haircut from someone who does not know how to cut extensions even though they say they do!!! I can't tell you how important that is.. there is a difference.. anyways, for someone who has done as much as she has,she is very grounded and warm and she will make you feel like one of her celebrities. more

I felt the customer service was impeccable and my overall experience was great. I would absolutely recommend it to all my friends. In this case anyway, I got what I payed for. more

Nothing but the BEST 12/23/2007

When you step into a salon like John Frieda you expect nothing but the best which is what I experienced with stylist Michael St.Germain. I explained to Michael that I was bored with my hair and needed a makeover and that's exactly what I got!! I have never received so many compliments as I have with my new look. Not only is Michael St.Germain one of the best stylist I have ever seen, he's also one of the best looking ;-) more

I WOULD NEVER COME BACK TO THIS SALON 4/10/2007

It was my first time to get a cut in this salon, and my LAST! The receptionist was very rude. After the stylist asked my what kind of style I wanted, he was approached by his assistant that he needed to take care of his client who just came late to the salon. He made me wait for at least 15 minutes after I was being seated while he was working on his late client's hair. I know I should have say something at the time. After he's done with his late client, he proceed doing my hair. I had showed him a style that I wanted in a book, but I don't think he knew how to cut it. When he told me he was done cutting my hair, I was very surprised because I didn't feel I had a haircut at all! I was very disappointed and I would never go back there again! I think the person who cut my hair doesn't work there anymore. You don't have to pay a lot of money to get a good cut. Just because an old client walk in to the salon, that doesn't mean he need to take her first before the new client. Overall the salon has a really bad service! Pros: rude staff more

If you're not a celebity, don't bother with this overrated, overpriced salon. 3/29/2007

This is a terrific salon, but despite what others have said here and other places online, I had a TERRIBLE experience with Matthew Shields. He did not listen one bit to what I wanted for my hair (which was to grow the layers OUT) and put in tons of new, choppy layering (some pieces as short as 4"" at the crown of my head!). Only go to him if you want to spend $$$ getting a choppy, dated cut - HE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE!!! I found him to be rude and dismissive. For what he charges he should listen to his client, even if she's not a movie star! This salon is typical of ""celebrity"" haunts. UNLESS YOU ARE A CELEBRITY, THEY DON'T GIVE A @#$&% ABOUT PLEASING YOU. (P.S. the guy who did my color was fantastic, but he left the salon and went somewhere else!) Pros: attractive salon, easy to get to Cons: haughty and rude staff, moronic front desk girls! more
