I love the food here 7/8/2009

I have been to Serge quite a few times and will continue going back all the time. The food is delicious and it is one of the most delightful French restaurants in New York City. I love the wine and the tastes. I look forward to coming back to eat at this great restaurant. Pros: simply the best service and food more

Great friendly owner, poor quality and poor food preparation 12/22/2008

I can understand why others like the restaurant. The owner Serge is just wonderful, talks with all his guests and may just give you a hug. However, the food on the other hand is a different story. We started with the ceasar salad which was average and the appetizers which were below average. For the main course we ordered steak and lamb dishes. The lamb shank was extremely tender and fell right of the bone, but the sauce was just average. The pepper steak had decent sauce hiding a very poor quality and poorly cooked piece of meat, very stringy, fatty, and unevenly cooked. I threw most of it away. Above average desserts, below average coffee. Despite all this I was most disappointed with the wine selection and ability of Serge to help you pick. After going home I found out the wine Serge picked for me carefully was just the wine that he made the best margin on; even though, it was one of the cheaper wines on the menu. All in all, I am a big time foodie, and will never go back or recommend anyone go there. Pros: Owner Serge Cons: Food and Wine more

A little Paris on Madison 11/2/2008

\r My wife and I were staying at the Union League for the NYC Marathon. We were looking for a nice quite, friendly good restuarnt in the neighborhood around 37th and Madison/Park. What a pleasant surpise to actually find one in NY. Despite being on Madison it was a little like Paris, a solid restuarnt for the locals and yet served a quality meal by helpful staff in pleasant surroundings. I thought this was a sold four star reasonably priced and excellent food properly prepared. What else cn you ask for? I would not hesitate going there when in the area . more

romantic dinner... 9/19/2008

Romantic? YES. View? Amazing. Food? Deeeeelish. We came to Serge for the whole experience and we were not let down one bit. Beautiful restaurant, terrific service, fantastic food and oozing with ambiance. There are so many fine dining establishments in NY, and although I havent eaten at them all - I can't imagine many having the same total package as Serge. Pros: wine list more

An authentic French restaurant with delightful service 6/16/2008

What a amazing experience. The owner Serge is always around to greet you with a Bon Jour, and make sure that you are happy throughout your meal. The wine list is great, the menu selection is wonderful..and the food is something memorable and delicious. Overall a very romantic, beautiful restaurant Pros: french food, wine list more

A find in midtown 3/22/2008

it's hectic at lunchtime;too busy....better have reservations....much better for dinner...more relaxed....the menu is great and varied....the food is good....the wine list more than appropriate for a bistro and the prices are great....Serge (the guy in the white coat) is always ready to help and talk to you about anything and you're immediately part of the ""inner circle"". I was impressed by the cleanliness....the beautiful flowers on the bar, the french music, and the art on the wall....All in all, do try's worth it and it's fun more

Great French experience in midtown 3/19/2008

If you want to find a good French restaurant in midtown near the Empire State Building this is it! Pros: Good food at reasonable prices Cons: Can be hectic at lunchtime. more

Prix Fixe is a great bargain 6/23/2006

I've eaten here several times and always been happy. The Prix Fixe around $25 is a terrific bargain, and I've had good salmon and pasta dishes. Sat for several hours with 2 friends from work the other night without anyone trying to move us along. A good choice for French bistro food in Manhattan. Pros: prix fixe menu more

comme si-comme sa 3/28/2003

we stumbled on to the restaurant on a rainy evening, and had an OK dinner. We had the Pre-fix dinner- onion soup, I had the salmon, she had the hnager steak and we both had the pear tart. The soup was Ok, the crounton awas too salty and buttered and the cheese was a bit too much, the slamon was decent, but the pureed carrots and potatoes were not very good. The tart was too sweet and caramelized. Dine if you must, but there are better options. Pros: service Cons: too dim, food more

The cream rises to the top 1/16/2003

My wife and I recently had dinner at Le Cafe Creme Madison. Our favorite food is French food. The food at Le Cafe is the best I have had in a number of years. Le Cafe is now at the top of our list as one of our favorites and we now place that at the top of our list when in Manhattan. The service leaves something to be desired but it is well worth it for the delightful dining experience and great food. My regards to the chef at Le Creme and keep up the great work. Pros: Food, Ambience, Relatively inexpensiv Cons: Service (Smile) more

Great place for dinner with friends 12/18/2002

I had dinner here last night with some friends to celebrate the Holiday season. The restaurant is warm and inviting and the staff is very friendly. It seems as though all of the staff works the whole restaurant, as we received service from several different people. The food was delicious and the prix fix is a great deal (only $20.95 for 3 courses). Because we all ordered different things, I was able to sample the grilled salmon, hanger steak, crab cake, seafood ravioli, and the duck pate. It was all delicious! The only weakness I would say the restaurant has is that it needs to expand its wine list as it was rather limited. I would be sure to make a reservation though, because it was packed on a Wednesday night. Pros: friendly service, good food, convenient location Cons: limited wine list more

offensive food! 12/16/2002

This is NOT french food: the pate appetizers tasted like spam, the steaks were overly salty, the pasta was overcooked, the creme brule had a synthetic orange sauce added to it (like those orange vitamin pills you took as a kid!). Oh, and the service was hurried. Don't go. I know I'll never return. more
