Travel nightmare w/Security Travel 4/26/2009

I have to agree with the comments on poor customer service with Security Travel and the cost being more than if we booked the trip ourselves. Security Travel called on a Friday after 4pm to advise the Discovery cruise line was down and we could not get to the Bahama trip. Everything was closed and we had to wait all weekend. We were flying out to Florida the following Tuesday and had reservations in Florida and with an upgrade in the Bahama's. We had to pay for another plane ride (that apparently a "travel agency" could not assist to do) out of pocket and was promised a refund (which of course did not nearly cover the cost of the additional fee for the plane ride). To date, we are going back home tomorrow and the amount promised to be refunded on the credit card is not there, even though Raul stated it would only take 24 hours. When I called Security Travel, they were never available and would not return phone calls. I spoke to Jason (the alleged supervisor) and even his promise to call back did not occur. It would be interesting to know the owner of Security Travel and do a class action for this scam and all the vacations that were ruined and cost more than this "free" trip. The upside of our trip was that the hotel in the Bahama's was accommodating as was the one in Florida at the Days Inn. We met some great people at the hotel in the Bahama's. It was interesting when we first checked into the Days Inn, they were not aware the Discovery was not doing the cruise and had a list of names from Security Travel that were suppose to go on this cruise that they planned to provide transportation for to the port for 6am. Security Travel even failed to be considerate to contact the very hotel it was contracting out with to inform them of the situation. At least the Days Inn was happy someone told them. And Christine is correct, there should be no cancellation fees as long as this is done 24 hours in advance. Perhaps Raul's commission should be deducted from his paycheck! I plan to make a complaint in Florida and advise of this so others will not have to go through what we did and have their vacations ruined or pay more money for a "free" trip. Pros: That we were able to get to the Bahama's by our own means Cons: Security Travel was NO HELP!! more

We Do Not Recommend This Agency 4/13/2009

We canceled our four day, three night Bahamas Cruise with Security Travel USA and requested a refund of our pre-trip expenses, based on the following. We were led to believe we had “won” a cruise to the Bahamas with a paid four day, three night stay (not including food). Once we paid a $175 “Administrative Fee” and received our packet with reservation procedures, we discovered we also owed Port and Service Fees of $198 required to process our reservations. We were also told that Security Travel had special contract rates with local hotels where we could stay prior to cruise departure and upon our return. We were not told there would be penalties for canceling reservations made through Security Travel for these local hotel accommodations. Raul booked the Days Inn for us at $119.00 a night for two nights. (We subsequently discovered another Days Inn closer to the port offering shuttle service to the ship for substantially less money.) Raul also recommended upgrading our hotel accommodations and suggested we review the Security Travel USA website for accommodation upgrades. The upgrade to the Flamingo Bay, which he recommended, would have cost an additional $200, not including room taxes. The Security Travel Website was not functioning, so we reviewed websites for the recommended accommodations and travelers reviews. To our dismay, we discovered the suggested accommodations were rated poorly with regard to comfort, cleanliness, noise and smoking, with the exception of the most expensive full-service hotel. When we spoke to Raul about our decision to cancel our trip we were told: the “Administrative Fee” of $175 was non-refundable; $100 of our Port and Service Fee would be charged to cancel cruise reservations, with a $98 return to us; we would be charged $25 for canceling each of our Days Inn reservations ($50 total) because of Security Travel’s contract with this hotel. (We then called Days Inn to inquire about their cancellation fee. We were told there were no cancellation fees up to 4:00 pm on the day of check in and they were not aware of any contract regarding cancellation fees with Security Travel.) Security Travel provided misleading information, charged hidden fees, and booked minimal facilities for the Bahamas stay, (the latter based on poor customer reviews). We would not use this agency again. It appears that Security Travel USA lacks honesty and integrity and exists to serve themselves, not the naive customers they hook. Cons: Misleading Information, hidden charges, poor ratings more

$429 total cost of hidden fees to take this cruise 10/7/2008

As of October 1, 2008, here is the breakdown of the hidden fees: Administrative fees = $175 (87.50 per person) Port fees = $200 Departing fees $54 ($27 per person) Total cost per couple to take this "free cruise" = $429. If you look up cruises on Expedia, you will find Carnival and Princess cruises in the Caribbean for the same amount of days for less money. Like others, we were never given a complete breakdown of these fees all at once, so we did not know how much we were obliged to pay in the long run by taking this "free" cruise. In the initial phone call, my husband was told we only needed to pay the administrative fee for one of us in order to claim the package. After mailing them $87.50, we got a letter the following month saying the other $87.50 was due or our package was going to be cancelled. I promptly called Security Travel and inquired about any hidden fees and was told there was an additional port fee of $200 we had to pay on top of that. Later, when my irate husband harrowed the Security Representative about hidden fees we learned about the departure fees. Then we calculated the total amount we would have to pay out of our pocket and saw that it was $429. And it will probably cost us $150 in gas round-trip to drive or get to Fort Lauderdale. We are so angry, we are more willing to pay Carinval $325 for a 4-day 3-night cruise and swallow the $175 we paid this rip-off company. Do not send them any money. We are going to try and fight for our $175 (non-refundable) adminstrative fee back. Pros: none Cons: This is not a free cruise more

Don't listen to them! 4/21/2008

As someone who actually fell for this stupid scam, I felt it was only right to warn others of this scam. This is by no means a free trip and you can easily book a cheaper trip directly with the hotels and get better prices with better hotels! They conviently forget to tell you about all their hidden fees and it always seems liek it is jsut a little more money and your booked. This place is a joke and I highly suggest booking your trip through the hotels directly or another vacation company. If tell you you won a trip to the bahamas, watch out as it will probably cost you more int he end anyway! Pros: nothing Cons: the price, the idiots that work for them... pretty much everything more

Security Travel's Bahamas Tip 10/17/2007

Ok here's the deal... I filled out a yellow slip and dropped it in a box while I was getting an oil change. A few weeks later I got a call about a trip to the Bahamas. I thought I won and was so excited but that soon turned to disappointment when I listened to the recording that mentioned the 87.50! I did some research and found all kinds of nasty things about the company and when I told my mom about it she asked if there was fine print on the slip I filled out. I told her I didn't remember so I went by the place I got my oil changed and looked at the slips... low and behold the slip mentioned administrative fees and port taxes! Man did I feel stupid. So I told my mom and had her listen to the recording. It turns out that the vacation was a pretty good deal according to my mom so we decided to go. Let me tell you... we had a BLAST! Aside from having to be in Ft. Lauderdale so damn early in the moring and getting back there so late, we had fun on the ship and the hotel was alright but we really didn't spend any time there because there was so much to do. We are going to try and take this vacation again next year because there were things we wanted to do but didn't have the time to do... and as cheap as it was, it is definatly worth doing again! I am glad I didn't listen to all the nasty stuff about the company I found on the web or I would have missed out on a great trip. Oh and BTW, I don't work for the company so please don't accuse me of that just because I had a good time. Pros: great deal, could take anytime Cons: Alittle misleading if you don't read the slip, Getting up early for Ship, Arriving home late from ship, ok hotel more

Avoid at all COSTS 5/30/2007

Don't fall for this "contest" promotion advertised by security travel. In all, you could end up paying upwards of 400-500 dollars for a "cruise" that isn't really a cruise. You're better off booking a cruise on the internet or through a trusted travel agent on your own. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY and DO NOT PUT DOWN ANY MONEY if you "WIN" a cruise. you don't really win anything - except the chance to lose out on your hard-earned cash. Cons: misleading contest promotion. hidden costs. READ YOUR FAQs thoroughly if you DID sign up for the "cruise" promotion more

Contest Disception 2/5/2007

The "contest" I won misrepresented a cruise to the Bahamas because when you "win" - what they are offering is a discounted cruise package. It is also not an actual CRUISE at all, but a 6-7 hour RIDE on a cruise ship to the bahamas. The advertising is very misleading, and the package you receive makes no mention of the fact that you will NOT have a cabin until you reach the FAQs page. The FAQs page has a question: "Where Can I Change My Clothes?" This seems like an odd question because you would usually change in your cabin, correct? The answer to this question: "They have public changing rooms, lockers, and showers....If you would like to rent a cabin, you can..." This was such an obscure question that, had I not read it out of sheer curiosity, I would never have realized that there was no cabin on this so-called cruise. Please do your research and make other people aware of this so-called "contest." For more information....check out complaints . com, abc action news (tampa-st.petersburg), and the better business site which has rated this company as unsatisfactory! Cons: unfriendly and unhelpful service. unclear information and packet more

Great Trip and Customer Service! 8/8/2006

I got a trip to the Bahamas through Security Travel and had a great time! The company was great at explaining things and helping my wife and I plan everything. The hotel wasn't the highest-end hotel, but it was nice and clean and had a pool - and the point of the Bahamas isn't to stay in your hotel anyway! Anyways, it was a great deal and I would definitely use them again. The only problem with the whole trip is that my wife got sun-burned, but that's more our fault... Pros: Value, ease of travel, customer service Cons: Not the BEST hotel in the world more
