I was pleased with my cut and color but pretty shocked when I had to shell out $330 (this includes tip) As a professional who bills out hourly, I have to say that this is just way too much for hair service. Pros: Good color Cons: too expensive more

Great Colorist 5/25/2008

Melissa is definitely one of the best colorist in SF! and this is saying a lot since I have thick coarse Asian hair with tons of white hair to cover up. she is very knowledgeable in what she is doing and she is very friendly. every time I get my hair done with her I never really have to go back until 3 months later! the salon itself has a very cool vintage feel..the people there are super friendly and very funny =) I love going to this place and really I have tried salon Miel, Sublime, Posh and several others in the city and no one does COLOR better than Melissa! Try her and you will not be disappointed... more

So-so experiences 5/16/2008

I've been to both locations a few of times - for cuts only. The cuts have been good - but not great. The downtown salon is tacky and messy and looks like an old-fashioned neighborhood salon not an upscale contender. The Calif. St. salon is nicer. Main point of contention - pricing. Priced very high for service level, ambience, etc. Pros: Calif. St. parking and atmosphere of salon Cons: Downtown salon is dumpy; both too expensive more

SAS California St. Location--beware 10/18/2007

I was so incredibly excited to go to SAS last weekend. I was in dire need of a cut and color. Saturday came and I called twice and let them know I was running late, as a very close family member was in emergency surgery. I explained that and that I was running late because I needed to pack up to head out of town after my appointment. I knew I was 20 minutes late and that I would probably not have time for all the bells and whistles and I told them I understood this over the phone as I rushed across the city. more

Wedding Hair to Die For 10/12/2006

I looked for MONTHS for someone who had any idea how to create a spectacular retro ""do"" for my wedding, using my short and very straight hair. Melissa turned my hair miraculously into a gorgeous, 1950's Marilyn hairdo that everyone at my wedding raved about. She also created beautiful updo's for my neices. Relaxed and highly professional, she had the upmost confidence and skill in what she did. And I know: I ""auditioned"" several before her! more

I've been in SF for 10+ years...coloring my hair the entire time and AT LAST I have found amazing melissa. I'm very very picky and after seeing Melissa once, I was sold. She knows exactly what fits my personality and hair type. With other colorists I felt I had to monitor and give input but with Melissa, i just sit in the chair quietly and trust her completely. High-end salon without the attitude 4/15/2006

Melissa does great balayage highlights! She is down to earth and makes you feel very comfortable. The staff is great too. Unlike a lot of other salons, they don't make you wait and act like they are doing you a favor. For great hair color, give Melissa a try. Pros: unpretentious, casual, no wait more

Outstanding Salon 4/9/2006

I highly recommend Secret Agent. Melissa is the most knowledgeable colorist I have ever met. She is totally confident and her salon atmosphere is comfortable and fun. I felt certain that she knew exactly where to go with my color. Meghan is an outstanding stylist. She is a natural at what she does and works magic with a pair of scissors. I made my appointment in the middle of a work day and was able to connect to their wireless access while my color was setting. I was e-mailing to work in a salon chair! This salon is perfect for the busy working girl that cares about having great hair. more

Absolutely, Positively The Best! 3/9/2006

I was born a redhead however time and age have caused my hair to fade. Luckily I found Melissa! It is important for me to have a natural look so imagine how good it feels to still get asked if I color my hair. It is like getting carded when you are way, way over 21! I keep extra Secret Agent business cards in my purse because I get compliments so often. I followed Melissa as she moved from one of the top salons to her own intimate space across from the Sutter/Stockton Garage. It is a friendly, relaxed yet highly professional salon. Alluring Recommendation 3/4/2006

I found Melissa in a recent Allure Magazine article about top colorists in San Francisco. The daughter of a hairstylist (out of state), I am a SUPER PICKY client. Melissa won me over from the first consultation. I came with self inflicted neglected and damaged color. She patiently detailed her own suggestions about what she would like to do with my hair to bring it back to health and begin to move it in a new creative direction. Unlike some colorists I have encountered, she was also willing to incorporate my own interests, answering all my questions. The result several visits later is hot. I love Beyonce's hair, Melissa gave me highlights that have the same effect but adjusted to more closely match my own natural color. I am so happy to have found Melissa. Miracle Workers 3/1/2006

I first found Melissa after sporting Maroon air - accidentally done by another colorist. She worked wonders in correcting my mess into something beautiful , rich, classic, and stand-out color . Truly a miracle worker she and her team have gone beyond what anyone else can possibly accomplish...cover my resistant grey religiously for the past 8 years, and remain a beautiful chestnut brunette with red/gold highlights...... followed by a fabulous blowdry of my curly tendrils... to create a sophisticated, polished look..... from moppy, grey frizzball, to fabulous rich color and style! thank god. Exquisite Color 2/3/2006

I've been a redhead for years, but my red has never come close to looking as good as it does since I started going to Melissa. She does a superb job, my red is soft and natural-looking, and never looks washed-out, even though I have tons of grey. I get comments on it all the time -- most recently at the airport yesterday, and it was 4 weeks since I last had it done! I LOVE this salon -- it's small and intimate, everyone remembers you (the stylists, the shampooist, the receptionist, everyone!), you don't have to ""dress up"" to go there, you'll see clients of all types from trendy twenty-somethings to high-flying business types, they make tea with cookies, it's one block from the cheapest downtown parking lot -- and best of all, they really LISTEN to what you want. So I've been going to this gal Melissa since 1990! She has the best sense of colour! Secret Agent is the next big thing... whether you are James Bond or Barbarella!
