Prepare to get harassed to buy a bike at a level you don't need. I'm not a pro, and don't need a $6000 Cervelo. Not only that, everything in the store is overpriced! It's all ch...

good tri shop in NYC 1/7/2009

I?ve had nothing but good experiences at SBR. They are not cheap. But I didn?t notice their prices being higher then at other stores for the same items. They don?t carry a lot of inexpensive items but higher end merchandise. The employees are knowledgeable and are active triathletes. I see them from time to time at local races. The atmosphere in the beginning can be little intimidating if your new to the sport. But Pros: Friendly, knowledgable, good selection Cons: not cheap more

Good service, if sometimes spotty 7/31/2008

I've been coming semi-regularly to SBR for about 2 years now. The shop is sleek and clean, and is geared towards triathletes. You're probably not going to find a large selection of stuff you want if you are just a cyclist (e.g. bags, lights). However, even as a triathlete, I do wish they had a bit more selection on clothing, bike tools, etc. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, triathlon-specific store, close to CP Cons: Though high level of service overall, quality can be spotty at times. more

Fun running group on Wednesday nights 7/28/2008

The store has a group run on Wednesday nights in central park. The run is free and open to anyone. Nice group of people. A few SBR folks lead the run. I'll try to make it again, I just wish they started a little earlier. Pros: nice people, good workout more

Quality has its price 6/23/2008

If you?re looking for cheap gear that needs repair or replacement a few months after you purchased it, this is not your shop. SBR carries quality products at a very competitive price. I shop here often and have been very happy. Staff is very product knowledgeable and knows what works and what doesn?t. I read some negative comments here but find them to be unfounded. This shop serves more customers in a day then your local LBS does in an entire month. On occasion I see the staff been pulled in many different directions but the boys do what they can to help everyone out in a reasonable timeframe. more

Great Tri Shop in NYC! 6/17/2008

This is a great tri shop in NYC. (much better than the other shops in the area) They carry the best gear around and will price match any products that you can find elsewhere for cheaper. I disagree with some of the other reviews here... if you're looking to buy a cheap bike, this is not the place to shop. SBR's prices are very reasonable for the type of bikes that they sell and the staff is very knowledgeable. Keep up the good work! Pros: nice people, good workout more

Best place to get a wetsuit - take the time to try them in the pool 5/27/2008

I tried four different wetsuits in the pool. It took some time, but i know i have the right one. At first I did not want to squeeze into a smaller size, but in the pool it felt great. Thanks for being so patient with me! Pros: selection, friendly staff more

It may be expensive, but you get what you pay for 4/28/2008

This store gets a bad rap, and really its unfounded. People complain that all they want to do is sell $6000 bikes, and that's because they pretty much cater to the $6000-$10,000 semi-pro market. They have cheaper stuff, and I've found those guys more than helpful when it came to any of their products. But if you want a $200 Trek or Cannondale, this store doesn't have it. If you want a professional quality bike, or even one professionals race on, this is your place. Service is excellent, the staff knowledgable, and they sell a great product. Don't waste your time with Toga, or the others. SBR is worth the trip. Pros: Selection, Brands, Helpfulness, Location Cons: They're surrounded by a bunch of crummy bike shops in the area more

Case study in overselling 9/11/2007

Prepare to get harassed to buy a bike at a level you don't need. I'm not a pro, and don't need a $6000 Cervelo. Not only that, everything in the store is overpriced! It's all cheaper online. And, their selection of clothes is really not that good. They only have a good selection of nutrition. Pros: nutrition selection Cons: cost more

Overpriced and rude 7/5/2007

You should see you loan officer before you go here to buy anything. The staff can also be arrogant, especially the owner, who wants you to feel privileged for shopping there. A lot of their stuff is overpriced for what you can get at other stores or online. And the selection of clothes isn't good. Pros: it's at least clean in the store Cons: prices, selection, service more
