Best

We enjoyed our visit to the restaurant a lot.

Worst

Someone should tell these people that high prices on the menu does not make your restaurant better. The place was really boring -- menu, food, decor. It was nearly empty when I ...

Extraordinary 11/26/2006

A perfect meal from start to finish. Pros: Stunning Food, Great value wines Cons: I can't think of one. more

Great Food, No Bargain 11/5/2006

The food is great, if not absolutely extraordinary. But it really is somewhat overpriced and the portions are small, even by NY standards, in my book. more

Rip off 3/7/2006

I was very surprised by the very un-Brooklyn prices and portions. The food was delicious, but the portions were shockingly small and expensive. For example, my husband and I split a winter salad as an appetizer. A $15 salad sounds more like a Manhattan price, but who cares if it's good, right? Well, when our server brought the salad out, we thought they had only brought 1/2 of the salad. It was incredibly tiny. The server could have told us that this measly portion was not really suitable for sharing. On to entrees. My scallops were delicious, but for $26 I got three. That seems really greedy for Brooklyn. My husband didn't even like his cod at all. Thought the sauce it was in was terribly unappetizing. I did think the food was good, but I would never got back. Looks like the Michelin star rating got to their heads! Pros: Good food Cons: Overpriced, small portions more

Great neighborhood, great food 4/26/2005

Not sure where the previous reviewer, lonk, dined, but Saul is in a great neighborhood and has great food! I've been there three times and have always had wonderful experiences. I'd highly recommend it for a special occasion -- it provides and intimate setting and nice service. more

Order Off the Regular Menu 11/28/2004

The regular entrees and desserts here are excellent, with truly unusual sides and garnishes that make for brilliant flavor combinations with the central meat or fish. However, do not order the prix fixe menu, as you won't get all those fantastic extras, so you end up with a tiny portion of boring food. Pros: Food, Service more

Excellent New American 9/15/2004

Every time in New York I make it a point to visit Restaurant Saul on Smith Street. Everything is always cooked to perfection, the service is excellent, the decor cool and understated. I had the duck breast special on my last visit and it was incredible. Can't wait wait for my next visit. Pros: , reasonably priced Cons: , can't think of any more

BEST Brooklyn restaurant 8/21/2004

I have eaten at Saul, many times, the food is always consistently, outrageously good. Saul is the best restaurant on Smith Street and in Brooklyn. The duck confit is always amazing and the foie gras terrine with figs was out of this world. The wine list is interesting and has many good values. For the price, you cannot eat this well in Manhattan. Pros: Excellant Service, Good Parking more

Boring and Expensive 7/15/2004

Someone should tell these people that high prices on the menu does not make your restaurant better. The place was really boring -- menu, food, decor. It was nearly empty when I was there, probably because there are so many more interesting and fun places to eat on Smith St. (in fact, a great Peruvian place just opened up directly across Smith St. from Saul a few months ago) that there's no reason to waste your time or money on this place. Pros: Empty Cons: , Expensive more

Delicious food, tasteful decor 3/4/2004

I took my girlfriend to Saul's for her birthday and had a very satifying experience - i had the chicken, sausage and wild mushroom and spinach risotto, which was finger-licking good. The foie gras was sweet and luscious. My gf's duck confitte was very solid as well, although i have little base of reference. Like its menu, Saul is small, and has simple brick-wall decor. Although somewhat loud, the noise was minimally intrusive. Highly recommended. Pros: Choice menu items, romantic, cozy Cons: , short wine list more

Yummy, wonderful Saul! 1/4/2004

Smith Street is packed with places, Saul is by far the best! We went with a group of 7 and were seated right away. Everyone tried a different entree and each one was divinely great. I've never had veal so tender and tasty. We've been to the Grocery (a couple of blocks away), which is good, but not as great as Saul. more

Best French in New York 6/12/2003

Period. Just go. Eat well! Try hard to ignore the light FM. Pros: delicious, good wine list, amuse bouche! Cons: bad music more

Our Favorite 2/3/2003

After traveling to a number of cosmopolitan cities and trying a number of delicious restaurants, I can say without a doubt Restaurant Saul without is one of the top restaurants out there. We hosted our wedding reception there and experienced such thoughtful service, fabulous food, and a lovely atmosphere; it surpassed every expectation. I highly recommend Restaurant Saul for every and any occation. Pros: Great Value, Fabulous Food, Good for groups more

Brooklyn's best 10/4/2002

I can't say it enough times: Saul is the best restaurant in Brooklyn, possibly New York. I have loved every dish I have ordered there... I like the ""taster"" starter they give you before the meal (always great) and have always had good service. This is a place to take out of town friends and relatives to to impress them with your culinary taste, and it's a place to enjoy a deux when you just want to eat well. Pros: the food Cons: the decor/ambience more

Comforatably satisfying 8/2/2002

My friend and I enjoyed choosing from a very diverse menu of appetizers and entrees. The desserts are very rich and a little to sweet for my taste following such a wonderful meal. What can I say: they were too tempting to pass over. Saul is a very comfortable room which did get a little loud at a couple of times during the evening but on the whole it was a very relaxing pleasant environment. The staff were incredibly attentive but never intrusive. We fully intend to return. Pros: good parking, relaxing atmosphere more
