BAD TIMES 9/27/2008

I recently went to Prego with my friends to have dinner and the place was empty, the service it was excellent, the food it was ok. The owners looked so mad, and my first meeting of them came in the form of a loud Italian argument between the two of them as they marched around the whole restaurant. I feel sorry for the servers, and any other customers. Pros: ..... Cons: owners more

I was very happy when somebody told me that the old CAFFE' BIZOU was sold to one of the best italian restaurant in town " PREGO ". The food and the atmosfere now is real Italian like the fantastic entertainer RENATO DI ROMA. The variety of the new menu is incredible from the appetizers to the desserts. First quality service and very reasonable prices. A big asset for the WATER GARDEN in SANTA MONICA. more

THE......real ITALIAN food and music in Santa Monica. 9/21/2008

I feel very sorry for those people who wrote these nonsense regarding the experience at this location in Santa Monica, ex Cafe Bizou and now Prego, Santa Monica. Our experience was completely the opposite and the same for the rest of the 95 people of the Italian community that they had dinner the same evening. The Italian menu is very accurate and authentic and prepared to the perfection. The performance of the Las Vegas top entertainer Renato Di Roma was excellent and the combination of food and music was number one. The old Cafe Bizou was replaced by one of the top Italian restaurants in town. The Italian and Brazilian event evenings showed a real dinner show Pros: THE...real italian showroom restaurant more

HORRIBLE 8/3/2008

Be aware -- this restaurant is *not* Cafe Bizou, it's now called "Prego" and is under new ownership. New owner and wife are very unpleasant and unfortunately, these are the first people you see. The food is bland, forgettable, and completely overpriced. If I wanted to pay $30 per plate, I surely know where else to go in Santa Monica. The service... oh, the service. I don't know where the owner found these so-called "waiters," but we had to tell them to do everything. Refill our water, refill our wine glasses, take away the salad plates before bringing in our entrees... They tried to put entrees on the table while my mom was in the middle of a toast (we were celebrating). I had to slip the waiter a $20 just to get anything done; otherwise, the staff stood against the wall and looked at us numbly. Oh, and they slapped on a mandatory 20% tip because our party was large. Usually, I tip really well because waiters have a hard job, but I felt cheated this time. It's no wonder this restaurant is completely empty 90% of the time. Too bad, because the old Cafe Bizou was really nice and we enjoyed going there. If I could give negative stars, I would. Pros: Um...the nice Water Gardens location? Cons: Everything else more

Not the old Cafe Bizou 1/29/2008

This is NOT the same Cafe Bizou as before. We had no idea that ownership/mangement had changed until we sat down and looked at the menu. The menu is much more expensive than before -- entrees from $20-$30, no dollar soup/salad, and the entrees are just completely different. The food wasn't bad -- I'd have been happy if the seafood risotto I had were on the old Bizou menu. Our receipt says Prego Ristoranti, which upon checking online, seems to be a chain with locations in San Diego and Irvine. Their website still does not list the new location. The Bizou website still shows the old menu. So this change must have just taken place. I am wondering whether the other 2 locations of Bizou (Sherman Oaks and Pasadena) have also changed ownership. Note: this citysearch website apparent does NOT allows words such as " dot com" -- so I am leaving out the 2 websites. Seems like a stupid rule for an online restaurant review! Pros: Ambience, parking Cons: Expensive, not the old Bizou more

Terrible Food, Terrible Service, Terrible Experience 12/12/2007

Is there a way to give negative stars? This is not the Bizou I remember and love. We went for lunch yesterday with 5 co-workers and we spent 1 hr and 45 minutes in the restaurant. This was not by choice. 1) Had a reservation, were on time, and still had to wait, even though we saw tables available. 2) The menu was not the same one that they had on their website. I had eaten at Bizou before and had directed my friends to the website for the Water Gardens location. When we asked the waitress what had happened, she said they had changed the menu that day and that they were under new management as of a few weeks ago. 3) Took out all the good dishes from the old menu, left the crappy ones. The menu is now painfully boring. And substantially more expensive. 4) Asked if I could sub a side dish out on the chicken masala plate and was told a flat "NO," not "Let me check" or "I'll see if we can do that." 5)Food took over an hour to come out. No apology. Water did get filled though. 6) Plates arrived with 4 ravioli for one friend and 6 for another, when asked about this the waitress tried to take their plates away so that she could take one off of the plate with 6 and put it on the plate with 4, which is unacceptable. 7) MOST IMPORTANT: Food was bland. Friend with mushroom pizza could not be convinced that the mushy pieces on her pie were, in fact, mushrooms. Sausage in my pasta was undercooked and the sauce tasted like cleaning fluid (I ordered something else when denied my original request). The ravioli were miserable and the Chinese chicken salad on my other friend's plate was doing a backstroke in the ocean of dressing. Salmon pasta for the fifth friend had to be salted heavily and was still inedible. 8) Had to get up to find waitress to get our bill. Will not be back. Pros: Water Garden Building Beautiful, Restaurant Still Looks Nice (unless they plan to change that too) Cons: Service was Awful, Food was Worse more

Horrible Service and not THE Cafe Bizou you want 10/28/2006

Went to Cafe Bizou for a Birthday dinner on a Saturday night. The experience started off bad with the valet line backing up into the street because of having only two valets. Next it took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation (for 5). Once we got seated eventually our waitress returned and took our drink order. We then waited 30 MINUTES to get our five drinks. Eventually our waitress returned to take our order. Almost an hour later our food arrived with 2 of the 5 orders being incorrect. One of those were sent back and eventually came back correct. After all this, the food wasn't that good. Most of the attempts at flavor were just over powered by cheap sauces and took away the flavor of the actual meat/fish/lobster. I later learned that this Cafe Bizou is NO LONGER affiliated with the highly reviewed Cafe Bizou restaurants in Pasadena and Sherman Oaks. The Santa Monica one was sold off and since then has just plummeted in quality and service. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Pros: Everything is under $25 Cons: Poor Valet Service, Poor Service, Food was over powered with bad sauces more
