I have been dining at Sapori for many years and can not say enough good things about it. Whether it is the attentive waitstaff and hostess, the wonderful food and wine list, or the amicable proprieter, Sal, Sapori is always a wonderful dining experience. more

I was visiting from back east and friends took me to Sapori for dinner. I didn't expect to find such a gem in a strip mall in Orange County. The patio, with it's beautiful fireplace, has the feel of a Tuscan villa and the food and service were amazing! They made me feel as if I were in Italy. I had a veal chop that was cooked to perfection served in a sauce with porcini mushrooms. The owner came by our table and suggested a Tuscan wine, ""Il Futuro"",which was a perfect paring with the veal. I highly recommend to everyone to try this fabulous restaurant! more

Sapori has always been a staple in convenient Newport Beach dining. However, when called upon to handle a private function, they utterly failed, by which we did not expect.. 1. Menu items promised were not delivered. 2. Appetizers came out too late, allowing the bar to run longer than desired. 3. Food often came out cold. 4. Staff was too lite for serving the party. 5. Serious bar tab DISCREPANCIES. 6. Headcount charge was incorrect altogether. MOST OF ALL THEY MADE NO ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS OUR FINANCIAL GREVIANCES! Final- be sure to have a signed contract in advance should you choose this restaurant for a private party. Pros: Good food. Cons: screwed us over. more

Truth be told, I had by-passed Sapori many times while looking for a good Italian restaurant. Recently, however, I visited Sapori and, to set the record straight, it is an excellent and authentic restaurant with a patio reminiscent of restaurants in Italy. The chef is from Sicily and the serving staff comes from Naples, Pulia, and other Italian towns. The wine list has a small but solid selection of regional Italian reds and whites. The menu offers plenty of choices from anti-pasti to pastas and main courses. Yes, the menu is bit timid for those who have travelled but it is still wide-ranging. Pastas can be ordered al denti and the sauces have home-cooked flavors. At the end of the meal, there is even a small glass of grapa for digestion. And for those who have a favorite dish in mind, here is a restaurant that can make something special and very Italian if you call ahead. Sapori deserves more recognition than it has received. Sapori never disappoints. We often drop by for a quick meal before a movie or with our teenagers before they go out, always a family favorite. Love dining on the cozy patio, you won't believe that Sapori is in a shopping center! The menu has lots of variey and the specials at both lunch and dinner are always worth trying. I flew in from Texas, and had seen the reviews from the past, which were anything but complimentary, in my opinion. It was in the area I wanted to go to so I thought I would give it a chance. What a great surprise!!! Really reasonably priced food, wide selection ( all we tried were really great--the Chilean sea bass was really perfection!), perfect service, great ambience, in a very Mediteranean setting, outside seating available, and really family friendly. It seems Athos Fiori (the guy who made MAMA GINA'S what is was, in my opinion), has come here, and if you want to feel you are really special and a part of the family, walk through the door. He is gracious, attentive, and charming...the girls are really going to love him. That is just the beginning of a wonderful dining experience, where couples and families alike will be at home. I liked the ambiance - it made me feel like I was back in Italy again. There is a large outdoor area with an outdoor fireplace and heaters. The menu had lots of pasta dishes - we had the homemade cheese ravioli and gnocchi dishes - both good. Prices were a little steep ($15-16 for each of our dishes) but it includes great focaccia bread at our table! Waiters were very nice and service was good. This restaurant is not the best place to eat. It is overpriced and the food is not good. If I knew this place was this bad, I would have gone to Denny's or something. I ordered a spaghetti with meatballs and the meatballs were rare inside, the portion size was small and this small plate was 18.95. I will never dine in this restaurant.
