Season Starts Next Week 12/20/2005

Winter racing begins at Santa Anita park on December 26th. I'm looking forward to going a couple times this season. It is a really attractive an elegant track, and it is right next to the beautiful L.A. County Arboretum. One fun tip, if you go early in the morning you can go for breakfast and watch the horses workout with all the trainers and the jockeys hanging out around you. Almost as fun as a day at the races. I stood at the fence next to Bob Baffert one morning while he was watching a race and talking about politics. Funny. more

Cafe at the race track 8/17/2005

There is a cafe at the Santa Anita Park race track. They serve many different kinds of food like french fries, coke, and burgers. They also have lots of different sandwiches too. You can grab a meal and watch the horses race. This is very convinient. The food here isn't really cheap nor is it tasty. But since you're at the race track they try to gouge you so what can you expect? That said, if you're hungry and want a bite to eat while watching the horses race, then this is a good place for you to go. more

World Famous Horse Track 8/15/2005

For a horse track that can't be beat, check out the santa anita park racing track. It was built back in the 1930s when Arcadia was still a huge orchard field and land was cheap. The horse races here are frequent as they are amazing, and are broadcast by satellite all over the world. You can find a variety of different betting schemes from trifecta to a single winner to pick top 7. There is literally something for everyone. The cafe at the park is great too. There's a wide selection of american food, and it's a selection that can't be beat. Good eats. Good entertainment. Find it at the santa anita park. more

One of the nation's most beautiful racetracks 7/14/2005

People don't usually think of going to the racetrack when they desire to attend a sporting event, but this is a beautiful place to spend a sunny Southern California afternoon, full of excitement and beauty and history. The track dates from the 1930's, and has beautiful art-deco architecture. It is set against the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains; the mountain view from the grandstand is truly a magnificent background for the stunning, athletic equine athletes who run there. Santa Anita is one of the top tracks in the country, with some of the nations richest races which in turn attract the best horses and jockeys. If you've never gone to see live horse-racing, you should check it out. They often have special events, like "Micro-Brew" day in the infield, with live bands and lots of giveaways. The immortal Seabiscuit ran many of his greatest races here, and there is a statue of him in the paddock. General Admission is $5, clubhouse is $8.50, and there is a great deli in the clubhouse which is one of the two best places for real New York deli corned beef sandwiches in all of Los Angeles. more
