My boyfriend, sister, mother, and myself visited Atlantic City this past weekend (March 11-12, 2006) for a concert. While we were originally going to stay just outside of Atlantic City, we changed our reservations to Sands within 2 days of our planned stay. (Being so close to our arrival date, everything else was booked.) We reserved the room through Travelocity, and paid a great deal more for the night than we would have at our originally planned hotel. (Total cost was around $450... this included $349 for the room, $30 for having 2 extra people in the room -- although the room included 2 double beds, we were charged the $30 extra for having 4 people in the room, plus the usual taxes.)
Getting from the parking garage to the desk to check-in proved to be a maze, but we made it, and checked in without problems. We got to the room, and it was nothing special. We were only staying one night, though, and didn't need any "frills". For the pricetag, it would have been nice though.
All in all, it wasn't the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. It is in need of remodelling, however, and replacement of bed linens (the bed skirt on one of the beds not only appeared old, but was torn in at least one spot). There was also an older model TV that only went up to 19 or 20 channels, and didn't actually have 19 or 20 channels.
For what the hotel would probably cost on a weekday, it would probably be worth it. It was great to finish up gambling, and to just take the elevator upstairs rather than having to get in a taxi and head back to our hotel. However, I would never pay anywhere near what we paid again.
