Best Eyebrow waxer! 4/19/2008

I love Denise she is truly great at waxing eyebrows, she has a up-beat personality and really makes your eyebrows look purrfection. I have gotten so many compliments on my eyebrows when I go to her. Pros: Great Eyebrow wax! Cons: It is pretty pricey. more

Salon Blue 3/13/2008

Great place to go for hair cuts, color and style. They have great service and give the best head massages while they wash your hair. Great blow outs too. They also have makeup and a great spa area. Awesome place more

I had a haircut here with Nina, who is very young and sweet, but just out of high school. I was surprised when I got the bill. She gave me a gloss, I did not ask for. Lots of upcharges. The funny thing is, she gave me a color that was the same as hers. It looks good on Nina because she is so young, but on me it was very unnatural. The prices was way too high for her experience and level. The cut was average. She did not listen to what I asked for, but was very sweet. I thought the hidden charges were misleading. I had an eyebrow and bikini wax. Eyebrow was very disappointing. The shape was uneven and the ends were waxed off, so now I have to pencil it in. Very disappointing. Some people look good with penciled eyebrows, I have oily skin, so it looks greasy with fake brows. Pros: Nina is sweet girl. they sell plastic jewlery at the front counter Cons: avoid waxing, watch for upcharges, overpriced for what you get, front desk are rude more

poor quality, overpriced, wierd staff, owner doesn't care 2/21/2008

I had my hair cut/colored by this 18 year old there and they charged around $200 for someone who was just out of school! I got a better haircut at HAIR CUTTERY on BROADWAY!. Then I had an eyebrow & lip wax. The first time, they burned my brows. It took about a week for the red to go away, after the skin peeled off. The second time, this girl Julie didn't know how to shape them and didn't trim them. She also waxed them too thin, very unnatural. Think Joan Crawford. The salon is nice inside. The front desk are wierd. I called the manager/owner, but she never bothered to call back. Emily (the older highly strung one at the front desk), wouldn't answer my questions. Frankly, if your spending $25 plus tip for brows and $15 for lip waxing, which is overpriced to begin with, you would think you would get someone who knows what they are doing. Or the very least, the owner would care that you had a bad experience, and apologize. They are just right in their own minds and the customer doesn't matter. I'm taking my business elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend them at all. It's very disheartening because they seem like a professional business from the outside and all the fancy advertising. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Pros: the shop inside is pretty Cons: bad haircut, overpriced, burned my skin waxing, mis-shapen brows more

WORST WAXING EVER 2/21/2008

I had to write after noticing a person who works a Salon Blue writing fake reviews. I have been a client of the salon and the spa for about 3 years now, and they had this great technician, GENEVIVRE, who quit. I got passed off, without asking, so someone whom I hight doubt is trained or licensed. . The women was fast and efficient. A little two fast and efficient. She thinned out my brows so much. I looked like Brooke Shields, now I look like Pamela Anderson except shorter. It was so bad, I had to go to another salon and get them to FI X IT!! Plus they wont tell you where the girls are licensed!!! They are so secretive and I highly doubt these people are licensed. The icing on the cake: The front staff are rude and "fake". This is not LA, but these ladies act like it. I felt so uncomfortable and horrified at the results. I would never recomment them to any of my girlfriends and I have heard two professionals in the beauty business complain about the salon and warn me. DO NOT GO!! Pros: Fast. Too fast. Cons: Scary unlicensed, untrained technicians more

Fabulous waxing among other services! 2/16/2008

I had to write after noticing 2 very damaging reviews regarding Salon Blue's waxing services. I have been a client of the salon and the spa for about 7 years now, and I have never once had a bad experience. The women who work there are all highly trained, fast and efficient. I have probably seen all of their technicians for brow or bikini waxing and I feel absolutely comfortable and extremely happy with each one! I have recommended them to all of my girlfriends and have never heard anything but rave reviews. Definitely go! Pros: friendly staff, talented technicians Cons: parking more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! STAFF ARE NOT properly trained! 2/11/2008

1) I scheduled this waxing appointment 2 months ago, with Genevive. Apparently Genevive left and no-one bothered to call and let a 4-year client know. Is it standard practice to just switch client's to other people without asking or letting them know ahead of time? 2) I specifically told the technician I did NOT want them too thin. I said "Natural". These are no-where near natural. 3) I have never had my brows this thin, unbalanced, clear holes in them, and generally completely unprofessionally waxed. People at work and home were shocked by how poorly, unevenly waxed my brows were, as well as the holes in them. It looks like some person who did it with an at home waxing kit!! If I wanted a cheap wax, I would have gone to a cheap salon! I might has well have asked a blind person with duck tape to wax my brows. She gave me some sort of 1980's waxing, my eyebrows look like a comma with holes and the arc's is all wrong!! Her technique is outdated and she doesn't listen! I have some suggestions for SALON BLUE: Don't push people onto other technicians when they say they don't want another technician with pushy sales girls Have your staff properly trained and updated in current trends and techniques Don't use the words "DISAPPOINTED" when it's more like "TRAUMATIZED" The technicianDESTROYED my beautiful brows. I had to endure the work of a poor-quality, irresponsible, non-listening, unskilled, poorly-trained technician. It is very upsetting to have someone ruin your eyebrows and then you have to walk around all day with holey, balding eyebrows, and feeling so upset everytime you look in the mirror. My entire family, fiance', and friends agree, the technician, did a horrible job of destroying my beautiful brows. She needs PROFESSIONALLY trained or to receive some sort of follow-up training. It's going to take weeks to grow back until they are anywhere near normal looking. AVOID THIS SALON!!!! Pros: It's not the only salon in town! Cons: They hire incompentent, untrained staff. the front desk are snobby. Poor quality, traumatizing experience. more

Best Eyebrow and Bikini waxes 2/1/2008

I have been going to Laini at Salon Blue for the last 3 years and she, by far, gives the best waxes I have ever had. I usually get a brow wax and a Brazilian bikini wax and she is the best. She is fast, efficient and the least painful I have ever had. I like her a lot. My first time I went to her for a Brazilian I was very nervous and she was kind and walked me through every step. I don't feel embarrassed with her or uncomfortable. She does a great job but she gets it over with fast...especially for a process that you want done fast and efficient. I highly recommend her and she does a fantastic job. I always love my eyebrows too after she does them! Definitely the best in town!! Pros: Laini was great, other staff members great also more

Beautiful color with awesome shine! 1/29/2008

I had my hair colored along with a deep conditioning treatment and a gloss last Friday and I am thrilled with the results!! Let me start by saying I am a freak about my hair and this is a new salon for me. I used to go to someone in the suburbs but it was time to find someone great in the city-I live in the West Loop. I had heard great things about both Salon and Spa Blue in Lakeview and in Bucktown, and had heard Katrina was an amazing colorist. My color is beautiful and my hair has awesome shine. Everyone there was so nice and welcoming. Katrina is a lot of fun- you feel like you've known her forever. I checked out the spa upstairs as well-as I want to come back for facials because I've heard they are amazing for glowing skin- The spa looks so relaxing and it is really beautifully done. They carry awesome products and the overall vibe here is really positive and fun. I highly recommend this salon and spa and I absolutely recommend Katrina for beautiful shining color! Pros: fun staff, beautiful spa, gorgeous hair, Cons: none more

Wax was NOT worth the money! 1/29/2008

I visited Salon Blue, Lakeview, for the first time last week. Laini was my "waxer." I had a gift certificate to use and wanted to try a brazilian wax; I also needed an eyebrow wax. I arrived on time and waited in the spa waiting room for a while without any acknowledgment. Laini eventually greeted me and took me into the room. I explained it was my first brazilian and was a little nervous. She really didn't acknowledge that statement. Anyway, she waxed my eyebrows first and then did my brazilian. She was very fast; so fast that it made me feel uncomfortable and like I was wasting her time. Final results - my eyebrows needed plucked when I got home, they were a mess! And for $25 - it was definitely a rip off! My brazilian is ok - I don't have anything to compare it to, but I will be trying a different salon next time! A salon that doesn't make me feel rushed! Pros: location Cons: Staff makes you feel like you are wasting their time more
