Awful experience at the Falls River location. Asked for just a trim on my mid length curly hair and asked the stylist not to touch the front at all. What I ended up with was an awful thinning shears/razored cut I didn't ask for. Two and a half years later I'm still trying to grow out this thinned out mess. Someone needs to tell these stylists to pay attention to what their clients say, and ask before doing such a drastic thing to someone's hair. There's no fixing to this other than grow it out and keep cutting it off until it's all gone. But when an entire head of hair is thinned out from the scalp, that takes a really long time. I voiced my dissatisfaction after this cut, and was quickly ushered out of the salon without being allowed to speak to anyone, and I was still charged a lot of money. I will never be back and urge others to stay away. more

I recently relocated to Raleigh and Salon Blu wasn't far from my house, so I made an appointment for a trim and highlights. I was very happy with my current hairstyle of a slightly angled bob that fell just above my shoulders. I just needed it trimmed up a bit. A natural curly-head, I wore my hair straight the day I went in, but informed the stylist that my hair was actually very curly, and showed her a photo of myself with my hair curly so she could see. I told her what I wanted, showed her another photo of myself with the hairstyle I wanted (same as what I had but slightly shorter), and informed her that I did NOT want the front cut at all, just shortened up in the back a little, as I was trying to grow it out some. \r \r During the cut, I was turned away from the mirror so I didn't know anything was going wrong. As she was drying my hair, I still couldn't see myself in the mirror, but she made a few comments like "Oh, wow, your hair really IS curly." She must not have believed more

Terrible service, or more like no service. My 17 year old daughter asked for a color and Amy did everything she can to pursuade her to not color her hair. Told her lies like her hair can not get lighter which it has twice. Even after telling her that it lighten twice she said she is afraid she will damage it. Than started to speak in circles. Wow, what confidence she has in herself. My poor daughter has been sick for a long time and was looking forward to this. It took her everything she had to get to the apt, only to be given an hour lecture on damaged hair and extentions. Rude and ridiculous!She also said if I were her mother I would not damage it etc. What a rude person, she is not her mother and she does not know anything about her or much less hair. My daughter went somewhere else that afternoon and she got the color she wanted looking gorgeous with no damage. Unfortantely it came after an annoying appointment and my daughter crying because she felt she was treated unfairly. I hope she thinks twice before she talks to people like this and stop comparing, everyone is different. If my daughter wanted green hair it is her choice she had no business telling her not to do it. more

The salon itself is good. The staff is always very polite when I come in. However, the stylist Rachel that works there is another story. I've had some good cuts from her, but she has completely BUTCHED my hair the last 3 times. I know, I know, why did I keep going back? Well, I've gone to her for a few years and kept hoping that things would get better. After this last haircut though, I'm very aware that just isn't going to happen. more

New Mangement makes it feel Uptight 4/1/2011

Since Susan took over as management the place feels very uptight and uncomfortable. the hairstylist dont even appear comfortable. The whole experience is not comfortable any more. Amanda and Hanna did a better job making the clients feel special and want to come back. This is not the place I want to be when I spend a lot of money to relax and have my hairdone or let it down so to speak. You just can't let your hair down there any more. And speaking of that,what happened to my favorite Hairdresser Tiffany Holmes, Where did she go? Please tell me so I can go and enjoy my hair getting done. One more thing, I Feel as if Susan the new manager must make money off of sales because everything, every little tiny thing is billed now. Full hair cut prices for bangs and textorizing and I guess tissues if you sneeze? I don't feel like I am being treated as a good client I feel as if I am a dollar bill when I go there. So PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND TIFFANY. MY WHOLE FAMILY LOVES HER and so do all of our friends. more

At Salon Blu, I always felt like my business was unappreciated. The stylists there act stuck up and they were really rude. I have found a MUCH better stylist and environment at Tanas. I will NEVER go back to Salon Blu. more

Let me start off by saying I am unbelievably picky and no other stylist has ever been able to recreate what I've asked for, even if I bring pictures or allow them to create it themselves with just a ""vision"" or idea of what I want. That all changed when I came to Salon Blu! My sister referred me to Kaitlyn at the Brier Creek salon in Raleigh. Thank goodness for that or I may have never found her! Kaitlyn did an AMAZING job the first time she cut, colored and styled my hair. I seriously have never felt so great about my hairstyle. She also taught me how to recreate my hairstyle without pushing products on me (I did buy a few things, though :D) The second time (recently) she colored and cut my hair, I felt the same. Amazing! I love love love Kaitlyn. Now I do want to mention the pricing of the cuts and colors, I spent a pretty penny on my hair cut, retouch/color, and style. I was unable to leave the tip she deserved because the price was unexpected (it was about 50 dollars more than the previous cut/color for some reason), however I would never think twice of changing salons because of the price. Why mess with a good thing? Kaitlyn is amazing. I definitely recommend her! more

Unfair Pricing and Service 8/10/2010

New to the area, I was hesitant to re-color my hair with a new stylist, or attempt to find a new salon. I had been online and seen all of the negative reviews for Salon Blu, and heard a few word of mouth warnings from people in Raleigh of bad experiences they had there; however, I decided to try them out for this single service, and maybe get a cut later if I liked it. My stylist was an ""intermediate"" ranking of some sort with only one year of experience in hair, and was extremely friendly and kind; however, I have a lot of experience with $250 haircuts/colors in other premier salons, and Salon Blu should price their services more fairly. I left with a color job that looked like a $90 price-tag, but paid $195 for it with tip. She did as well as she could, and I guess it's not her fault that a stylist with only one year's experience is told to charge $95 for a highlight. I left with soggy wet hair because if you don't get a cut, you have to pay $30 more for a blow dry! I understand that it may not be necessary to blow-style hair if only color is done, but a customer who spends two hours in a salon and pays for $200 in services should not be sent out with wet hair-- it ruins the experience and makes your client feel like they're not worth it. The receptionist was extremely friendly, and scheduled me to have my hair corrected, and it looks great now; however, I was not allowed to speak with an owner regarding my experience, which I thought was shoddy management from someone who owns their own business and should take pride in it. This failure on the owner's part was intensified by the fact that during my original appointment, my stylist pointed her out to me and told me she was the owner, and the same woman was in the salon the day I came to get it fixed. She was present the entire time, and never even said hello to me or apologized for my horrible experience. Salon Blu has extremely friendly and professional staff, but the owners are failing to do their part to make this a successful client experience. If I would have been called, allowed to speak with, or cared for my this management, I would not have written this review. The owners should care more about their clients, and have a more fair pricing scale to keep customers from feeling like they've been robbed. more

Won't be going back! 6/13/2010

I went to Salon Blu with the belief I would be pleased with highlights and a haircut. I asked for carmel highlights-I have red. I asked to have my hair trimmed and it is 2 inches shorter. The stylist told me they have their own way of cutting hair which was extending my hair upward to cut. Then the stylist went back again through my hair with thinning scissors only to cut more off. I won't be going back since I paid over a hundred dollars to not be listened to. more

Save your money 5/31/2010

I went to Salon Blu in Raleigh in January to get an overfried hair lightening cut out. Joy did a really nice job - the first time. When I went back to have it shaped up for my daughter's wedding she hacked it up. The wedding is next week. One side is longer then the other and believe me it is extremely short - like a military cut so there is nothing left to correct. She also used those thinning shears on my hair which is wavy already so that just makes it stick out all over the place. When I asked her why one side wasn't laying down she said we could put hair spray on it! I am so embarrassed to go to my daughter's wedding like this and the haircut cost me $60 with the tip. Not going back. more

I have tried several places to cut my wavy thick hair. Each place absolutely butchered my hair. I found Salon Blu online and decided to give it a try. Best Idea ever. Dana is definitely the best! I would recommend it to anyone. For those who have been complaining, seriously grow some thick skin and stop being so overly dramatic. This place is wonderful! more

Bad Service 5/13/2010

I'm very upset right now! My daughter's prom is on tomorrow and she won a free hair-do at this salon from her school. We have not been able to talk to the stylist yet to let her know what style we are looking for! This says a lot about this salon when you give other people a run around! more

Great experience 10/27/2009

I visited Salon Blu's Brier Creek location today on a whim. I was in the area, and needed a haircut, and had heard some good things about it. I called them, and they were able to give me an appointment with Felicity immediately. Felicity was very sweet, and did a great job on my cut. She gave a wonderful, relaxing shampoo scalp massage, took her time with the cut, and then blew it out, as well as flat ironed it, which was a treat. Cost was $45, and I found that very reasonable. I will definitely return, and would highly recommend Felicity. Pros: Walk-in appointment, friendly stylist Cons: none that I can think of more

I have been seeing Casey at the Falls location for almost 4 years now and as long as she is there, I will never let anyone else touch my hair! The first time I sat in her chair I had an awful, long, plain hairstyle that some clueless stylist had given me at another salon. Casey has given me exactly what I wanted each time. I usually don't do anything different and she is fine with doing exactly what I want. Stylists at Salon Blu do NOT give everyone the same cut and they don't want everyone to ""look like them"" - as long as you communicate exactly what you want and don't want then they are happy to give it to you and make you look amazing. Pros: Friendly desk staff, and my stylist is phenomenal! more
