nice place - pricey dishes 3/12/2010

Ate here last month. I found the food pricey for a lunch time. I had the TILAPIA. it was a little over cooked, but generally nice. I like fish thats cooked to the right temperature, being a chef myself, I think the recipe was good, but needed some attention on lenght of cooking. Pros: nice ambience Cons: pricey more

WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN 12/28/2009

i WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN \r \r Went there yesterday with my boyfriend before catching a movie at Time Sq. The food was decent, but the service left such a bad taste in my mouth that I feel like I should have just gone to Applebee's, never had a problem with service there! \r \r We ordered the Calamari, Tuna Burger and Santa Fe Salmon. I also got an apple martini. Again, food was OK. \r \r We got a coupon from restaurant, com that says you have to order $50 worth of food in order to use the coupon of $25. I have gone to many restaurants with the restaurant, com coupon and never had an issue. \r \r The waitress never told us that we were not hitting the $50, and not to mention that we were short by 5 CENTS on FOOD (not including the martini) at the end of the meal. \r \r Total bill came to $59.95, drink was $10 so we were short of the FOOD portion by 5 CENTS. We were trying to make a 9 pm movie and we were running late. We were also very full, so when we said that we did not want dessert, that is when the waitress told us that we are short. \r \r When I asked to see the bill, I realizes that technically we were 5 CENTS short. I asked to speak to the manager, I told him that we were trying to make a movie and that technically our bill is more than $50 but the FOOD portion was short 5 Cents. He insisted that there is nothing that he can do and that the program requires $50 worth of FOOD ONLY and that the ""COMPUTER"" won't let him do anything. He said that ""We participate in the program so that we give you out of our own pockets if you spend $50 on food."" BUDDY, you are not giving me no $25, I paid for that coupon and if your restaurant does not want to participate in restaurant, com then talk to your boss and get out of it. We were then FORCED to order a dessert to cover our 5 CENTS short. \r \r I am a manager and run a store myself, that is a bunch of BS saying that you don't have the ability to adjust 5 CENTS. We even said that we can give him the extra 5 CENTS or just make one of our meals 5 cents more. He obviously just did not care about his business and to go back and forth with a customer over 5 CENTS and erase any chance of me or any of my friends going back there ever again demonstrates such short sight. \r \r GREAT JOB MANAGER....NOT! I hope you get a raise in the new year. I pity whoever hired you. And you cost your waitress all her tip. Pros: OK food Cons: Horrible service more

Don't Swim to Salmon River - Sprint Away 12/16/2009

The food may have been good if served hot and if recorded accurately by the serving staff; however, neither was the case. I used to live close enough to NYC that I would eat there often - ok, now I live in Chicago and was in town visiting my daughter for Thanksgiving. We went to Salmon River for dinner and brought guests, important guests! Our table had to be moved, reluctantly by the staff, from the vicinity of the drinking lounge as a patron was so loud and so foul mouthed that we were embarrassed. Our server was slow, recorded the order inaccurately, served one wrong salad, and brought entrees out that were warm, at best, certainly not hot!. This added to the fact that our server and her friend stood chatting and NOT paying attention to our modest needs for the duration of our meal. Praises are plentiful in the reviews, but don't say I didn't warn you! Cons: loud bar adjacent to dining room, horrific service more

sensibly priced seafood 5/15/2009

i work in the area and come here quite frequently for lunch. It is an attractive restaurant, good for a business lunch or dinner. Ht the bar when you are by yourself..as I often do...excellent & interesting sandwiches & burgers. This place is much better than the Oyster Bar at Grand Central and MUCH cheaper!! Pros: creative, varied & surprisingly reasonably priced food Cons: bar can be noisy more

The unique place for salmon 5/14/2009

Salmon is a very special fish which deserves respect in preparation and cooking. An hastily and careless prepared salmon looses all his great nutrients. This respect is guaranteed at Salmon River. I had the planched salmon. Great food, correct prices and nice staff. Go there if you can. Pros: Lounge with that delicate bit of flair Cons: No rawbacks, perfecrt experience more

UNDER THE RADAR SCREEN 4/17/2009

...mostly seafood, of course. extensive salmon selections but also many other fish and meat choices. the chef is CLEVER, CLEVER, CLEVER!! Asian, American, Cajun, Southwestern...lots of assertively seasoned, tasty food. Order a bunch of appetizers and share. Place is understated but quite attractive...prices pretty reasonable for a fish house. Pros: CLEVER MENU WITH LOTS OF CHOICES Cons: CAN'T ALWAYS GET IN more

go get it 8/11/2008

The butterfish....salmon... and scallops. Each a piece of velvety dream that soothes your entire being. The tiny size of the place only adds to its allure. It feels exclusive Note: save it for friends, or someone special. Don't let bad dates taint your experience. It's too delicious for that. ;) more

Owner Message

  • "Unlike Midtown restaurants that are busy only for lunch & pre-theater dinner, Salmon River buzzes from breakfast ?til closing. Midday, it refuels neighborhood office workers, both on-premises and with Bryant Park-bound salads and sandwiches; after work, corporate creatures unwind at the long bar, in the mesh-curtained lounge, and in the quieter, bamboo-accented rear dining area. Then come the theatergoers and couples grabbing dinner before heading home from Grand Central; later yet, coworkers shuffle in, discussing the project that kept them after hours. The seafood-centric menu presents familiar dishes with Manhattan flair courtesy of a Nobu-pedigreed chef, Rene Nilo Cuzco, who possesses a light touch and a knack for seasonings". NY Magazine
