Bad Service/Bad Attitude 3/2/2011

We have on many occassions ordered from the Grand Ave. location. Every Single Time....Something gets screwed up. I called to complain. He told me they have never in 45 years received a complaint and...Not to call there anymore because I had a bad attitude. Not a Problem. None of us will ever order from them again. I only give 1 star here because this blog won't accept the review without the rating! more

Not as good as the Mt. Prospect / Des Plaines Salerno's 11/10/2007

Went to this Salerno's after having a great dining experience at the Salerno's in the Mt. Prospect / Des Plaines area, where the menu is very reasonably priced, the service is good, and the food is exceptional. However, the Grand Ave restaurant doesn't compare. The prices do not match what is on their website, they are much higher; the manager doesn't know how much the food costs in the restaurant he manages; and the service was terrible even though the restaurant wasn't at all busy on the Friday evening that we went. I had called ahead of time to find out how much the Chicken Ala Salerno was and was told $9.95, when in fact it was $13.95. I had a beef sandwich and it was nothing to brag about or go back for. My husband had the Chicken Ala Salerno and he said it was good. My daughter had the pizza and she said it was just as good as others. I probably would not go back to this one and will just stick to the one in Mt. Prospect. I do have to say that the decor at Grand Ave is very, very nice. Pros: Very nice decor Cons: Service not good, prices do not match website more

We stopped in this past Friday around 7pm. Place was recommended by a relative since we just moved into the neighborhood. Considering we used to live in Little Italy saying this place has some of the best Italian food we have ever eaten is an understatement. The service was extremely friendly. There was no wait for a table. We were excited to find out that they offer Trivia every other Thursday night. We ordered a baby sized thick crust "famous" pizza for an appetizer and two sausage entrees, next time we will only order one entree as the portions are HUGE! We will definitely go back. Pros: Quality, Portions, Service Cons: NONE! more

My New Favorite 9/19/2006

A friend introducted me a couple of months back and I have visited many times since. I have gone a different times and days, both week days and weekends. The service is wonderful, the food is the best. I am not a big pizza eater but I will have this one any time. The pasta's are really great too. Pros: Service, ambience, value Cons: none more

Best Italian home cooking! 7/8/2006

Regulary crust pizza is full of toppings, flavor and just the right amount of cheese and sauce. The entrees are reals Italian home cooking - BIG portions - comfort food. The service is friendly. The atmosphere is welcoming. We have also ordered out - both pizza and entrees - they are always hot, and the same excellent quality as if eating-in. Pros: Delicious food, good price, parking available Cons: NONE! more

wonderful 3/19/2006

Leave it to the historic grand street italian family to make a fantastic thin crust hand tossed pizza! The crust is crunchy, the sauce is just the right sweetness, and the cheese is melty just like in a ninja turtle cartoon, the image I've been comparing pizza to for my entire life. more

Best Pizza in Chi-Town! 12/8/2005

Best pizza I have ever tasted! Beats all the top pizza joints in Chicago. Service is superb as always! Same great people have worked there since the first day I walked in. The perfect place for large groups or an intimate dinner. Too tired to go out....order one up for delivery. Either way...Salerno's is definitely worth a try! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Food, Friendly more

disappointed 10/4/2005

Service was average. Our order was lost or delayed due to other regular guests receiveing special treatment . Restuarant management offered no reason for th long delay. Pizza was average. Veal was editable but sauce was to sweet. Overall not a happy dining experience with out of town guests. Pros: quanity Cons: slow service, food was average more

Awesome 5/7/2004

I've been a Salerno's fan my whole life. I went to the Berwyn locations for years before growing up and moving to the city. The stufeed artichoke is awesome, as is the original hand-tossed pizza. I would even stop in for a jumbo slice. Man are they huge! Pros: Delivery area, great value Cons: , nothing bad to say more

Carry-out is the word here....this pie tastes good no matter what you have on it, although the sausage and mushroom is excellent! more

  • In Short
Salerno's hasn't changed for years, but that's a good thing--they know what works and they stick with it. The dining room is bright, with windows looking out onto busy Grand Avenue. The hand-tossed pizza is topped with simple ingredients like nicely spiced sausage and a generous amount of mozzarella. Other menu favorites include classic Italian dishes like braciola, rolled flank steak stuffed with ham, bacon, Parmesan and bread crumbs and covered in thick, red sauce.
