Best Sushi in Chicago 5/16/2006

I am convinced that Sai Cafe is the best! I have never had fishy tasting fish here(you know what I mean). Typically never empty, Sai Cafe is also rarely full-up(unless during the dinner rush on Fridays and Saturdays). You can make reservations, but it is not really necessary Best roll: Spicy White Tuna Crunch. Best dessert: Green Tea Creme Brulee (order it first, they may-and have-run out). Parking is very bad, but valet is available. more

Best Sushi 3/8/2006

While the hostess seats you, you will be greeted by all the chefs. Seating is available in 3 separate areas; the room by the chefs is small and can feel crowded on busy nights. The middle room has been recently redorated in a semi-modern, moderatly Asian decor. The third seating area is somewhat dark; I assume it's next on the list for renovation. Items I recommend/love: Spicy White Tuna Crunch (the best maki ever), Bagel Maki, Rainbow roll, scallop appetizer, cucumber salad, Green Tea Creme Brulee and Green Tea cake. The creme brulee is just superb. And popular--they often run out. Wine selection is good (my favorite is the Hogue Riesling) and each meal is concluded with complimentary orange sections, cut out of, and served in, the peel. I've been here for all occasions: birthdays, family gatherings, impress the parents, dates, friend get-togethers, you name it. There's always a mixed crowd of families, business types, dates and it never seems weird. more

Excellent sushi! 9/6/2005

Sai Cafe serves incredible sushi! It's one of my favorite places to go because they have a great variety of innovative maki rolls (try the lobster and halloween rolls!) and the sushi is very affordable. My husband and I had green tea, miso soup, a tempura appetizer, and 5 large rolls for $50! And, they bring you fresh orange slices at the of your meal and a warm towel at the beginning. Everything is always very fresh. We like to sit in the room with the sushi chefs so we can watch them in action. The staff is really warm, friendly, and accomodating. They also have a patio if you'd like to sit outside. I love this place! more
