long wait, rude, and unprofessional 10/10/2016

I had an IUD placed at sage brush about 3 to 4 months ago. After the first month it was very uncomfortable, period basically completely stopped and intercourse was very painful. I called to make an appointment but the "closest appointment" was 2 month after the day I called. unbelievable! I had to be in such discomfort and pain for about 60 days. Once my appointment came, I waited an hour to be seen. Once I was seen, I waited another hour, they were unsure who originally put in the IUD and they did not believe my discomfort or pain. They checked me and as I suspected, the IUD had almost fallen completely out. Removing it was painful but I had to take a pregnancy test before they put in the new one. Negative. BUT I last had intercourse only 3 days before. (it is advised that you wait 10 to 14 days after intercourse to get a possible positive) Now 2 months later, SAME THING IS HAPPENING. but now MY PERIOD WILL NOT STOP. I HAVE BEEN BLEEDING NONSTOP SINCE I GOT THIS IUD. I called to schedule an appointment. GUESS WHAT? next opening isn't until next month. Receptionist was very rude when I explained my situation. HATE THIS PLACE SO MUCH. more

long waits 10/28/2010

Takes forever to make an appointment and then it takes forever to be seen. Expect to be taken to the exam room 2 hours after your appt and to spend another 1-1 1/2 hours in there. But most of the staff is nice. more

Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Lab 10/29/2006

At the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, near the corner of River Blvd. and Columbus, there is a separate lab inside the building that is part of the medical complex BUT is not part of the medicine clinic or pharmacy. This lab is a drawing station only and they send all their lab work to Kern Medical Center to be tested. Please see my reviews of the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic and Pharmacy for more info. To go to the lab, you enter the second set of double doors [counting from River Blvd], the same set of doors you use to enter the Medicine Clinic and Pharmacy but as you enter the long, long hallway, turn left into the first wide doorway to enter the waiting room for the pharmacy and lab. Upon entering the waiting room, you turn left and go to the first window marked Lab. There is a small wire basket on the counter that you are to place your yellow referral form in. The person at the counter will look at your referral and sometimes will tell you that you must go all the way back to the end of the long long hallway, that you first entered as you came into the building, to the receptionist to check-in. I think that this is for insurance purposes though I am not entirely certain. I have always had to go back to the receptionist to check-in. The receptionist will give you even more paperwork, have you sign some papers, and then she will staple it all together for you to put back into the lab’s wire basket. After you go back to the lab’s waiting room [also the pharmacy waiting room], have a seat and wait your turn. Once your name is called, you go back into the lab’s rooms. Both times I have been to the lab, I had blood taken for testing. I had a different man each time. The first time I had blood taken, the lab tech was a younger man and he was nice and he was careful as he put the needle in my arm and did NOT find a vein. Then he had to use my hand where he did the butterfly-type needle thing and the blood came right out into the vials. He was competent and did not cause unnecessary pain. The second time I visited the lab, I had even more blood taken for a ton of different blood tests. This time, there was an older lab tech and he was very nice, friendly, and very competent. He used my arm, found the vein the first time, and took three or four vials of blood. The whole process was over quickly and with the bare minimum of discomfort. As I have found in the past at other labs, it is not easy to find someone to draw blood without a great deal of discomfort and pain. I was very pleased with both of my visits to the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Lab. Their techs were very good, very competent, and inspired confidence in me about their abilities as lab techs. I would recommend the Sagebrush lab drawing station for anyone who may need blood drawn. more

Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Pharmacy 10/29/2006

At the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, near the corner of River Blvd. and Columbus, there is a separate pharmacy inside the building that is part of the medical complex BUT it is not part of the medicine clinic or lab. Please see my review of the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic for more info. To go to the pharmacy, you enter the second set of double doors [counting from River Blvd], the same set of doors you use to enter the Medicine Clinic but as you enter the long wide hallway, turn left into the first wide doorway to enter the waiting room for the pharmacy and lab. Upon entering the waiting room, you must swerve to the right and pull a number from the number dispenser. This is your number and is the order in which the pharmacy will see you and take your prescriptions for filling or re-filling. Have a seat in the waiting room and wait till your number is called. Unfortunately this can take awhile. In the past, I have waited an hour just to drop off my prescriptions, and then there is an hour or more wait for the prescription just to BE filled. So this can be a time-consuming process just to get your medicine. They do have a bathroom right in the waiting room, there is a TV that is usually on a news channel or on Dr. Phil, and the seats are comfortable so it is not an unpleasant wait. After your prescription is filled, you go to the first window [nearest to the number dispenser] to pick them up. Sometimes you have to show ID and you must sign your name for each prescription item. For convenience, and this is something that I have not tried yet, there is a refill phone number on each bottle of your meds that you can call when you need a refill. I have heard that all you have to do for a refill is call the number, let the pharmacy know that you need a refill and then you can go pick up the refill when they say it will be ready. I will be trying this soon but it is only for refills and can not be used for new prescriptions, not even prescriptions of a drug that you have already been taking but a new increase in prescription amount, i.e. from 10 mg to 20 mg. I didn’t mention this in my Sagebrush Medical Plaza review but the whole Sagebrush Medical Plaza system is owned by Kern County and is connected to Kern Medical Center. Sagebrush Medical Plaza will have your medical records and so will KMC since they are connected. I find this very convenient since the doctors are able to refer you for anything that needs to be done for you medically. Sagebrush and KMC will allow you to use either the pharmacy at Sagebrush OR the pharmacy at KMC, NOT both. They do make you choose one or the other. Since I use the Medicine Clinic at Sagebrush, their pharmacy is very convenient for me to use so that is where I get my prescriptions filled. All in all, I personally find the entire Sagebrush Medical Plaza complex very convenient and easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone who needs low cost medical care. The people and the care they give to their patients [in my personal experience] does not make you feel like you are a low-cost patient but that your health is important to them and that they want to help you to get well in any way they can. more

Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic 10/16/2006

I visited the Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic for the first time in September of 2006. At first I was a little confused since it is a very large place, taking up a huge lot just east of River Blvd. on Columbus, so I entered the wrong door. I entered the first building that says Family Practice and Pediatrics. But the ladies working there were very nice and directed me to the second door down that led into the Medicine Clinic; Pharmacy; and Lab. When you first enter at the double doors, they open up to a huge hallway that leads for what seems miles and miles back to the very last door no the left next to x-ray where there is a small Reception window where you must check-in and get your name/medical info. bracelet that shows you are checked-in. They give you your paperwork that you must then take to the double class doors in the middle of that long long hallway which is the Medicine Clinic, and you must turn in that paperwork so that they know that you are there and ready to see the doctor. After turning in your paperwork, you find a place to sit either in the long long hallway where they have put chairs lining one side or in the small waiting room directly across from the glass doors. The waiting room does have a TV with a VCR and there was usually a movie playing when I was there, once it was Jingle All the Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger [NOT one of his best!] and once it was The Incredible Journey done by Disney many many many years ago [it was NOT the later version with the talking dogs]. Once the movie was done playing, it was up to someone in the waiting room to rewind it and re-play it, the nurses and medical assistants never came in to do it. After a short wait, my name was called and I was taken in to the Medicine Clinic for the usual blood pressure, weight, temperature, and question time [why was I there, was I in pain or ....?]. After that I was sent back out to the waiting room where I waited a LONG LONG time. My first visit, I waited five hours to see the physicians assistant [the doctor was too busy to see me], my second visit it was only three hours and since then it seems that two to three hours is the usual wait time per visit. The people were all very nice at the Medicine Clinic, from the receptionist, medical assistants, physicians, and doctors. Every person I met has been very kind, very helpful, and very competent at their jobs. There is also a pharmacy and lab and x-ray lab in the building with the medicine clinic. I can get almost everything done in the one building at Sagebrush Medical Plaza. Some of my appointments, I do have to go over to Kern Medical Center, but most basic things can be done right there at Sagebrush. I liked almost everything about my experiences at Sagebrush Medical Plaza, Medicine Clinic and I would recommend it to anyone who needs medical care. The only two problems that I personally had with my Sagebrush experience were 1] the long long hallway back to reception to check-in. I don't walk as well as most people, feeling dizzy and what-not and I hate my cane and walker so the long walk seemed like a hundred miles long. [So this is a personal problem that most people would not have]. 2] the long long wait to get in to see the doctor. There are a lot of sick people who need medical care so I understand the wait but it is very difficult physically to sit there and wait hours and hours to see the doctor. And since I am diabetic, the wait is worse because I will probably need to eat at some point. If my mother had not given me a ride to the clinic and then left to pick up something to eat for me, I don't know what I would have done. It was my first time there and it never entered my mind that it would be such a long wait and that I might need to pack along some food and drinks. [So again, this is a personal problem that most people would not have]. Overall, I loved my experience at Sagebrush Medical Clinic and would recommend it to everyone. more
