Editorial review from Citysearch 7/9/2012

I wager I have found the best Indian Restaurant in the entire state of Washington: Saffron Grill in Northgate! The food is YUM, the price quite affordable, the atmosphere refined and the service superior. With delighted anticipation I await my next opportunity to taste of their excellent menu. Well worth the short jaunt from I-5. :) more

Best Service and Indian food In Seattle! 3/15/2011

Yes Best Service and Indian food In Seattle! I have been coming for 11 years and I have never been disappointed everything on the menu is served not only with style but also with flavors that keep you wanting more! I have known the owner for as long as I have been coming to their old place in the u-district don't believe the negative reviews they are way off. Trust me get there eat, enjoy and you will make it a long tradition like I have. I now drive 45 miles just to get my Indian food fix. The places by my home don't have the flavors or service. I am sad soon I will be deploying with my wife in the NAVY. Please send Saffron care packages ;-) Thank you my friend for having such a great place to eat more

TIKKA WINGS to DIE For! 10/5/2010

Oh! The TIKKA WINGS with garlic sauce, a bit of heaven for your mouth! Tender, smokey, and succulent, the taste of an artful tandor master's for your supreme pleasure. To prevent from inhaling the wings too fast, break off a fresh-baked piece of Garlic Naan and dip it in the contrast of vibrant green cilantro pesto and a bright tamarind combo sauce. A bite of pungent mango chutney, a sip from a Mango Lassi, and I'm good to go to devour the other delectable delights on the menu.\r \r Steeped in aromatic spices, the Butter Chicken is a spicy delight frought fragrant with cinnamon, cardamon, and peppery overtones. It's faithful companion and perfect coupling with a side of saffrony bastmati rice.\r \r Come for the Wings, stay for the Baklava! I know I have. I've been going since 1992. It's been consistent comfort food and service. Different name (use to be Cedars), new digs (better and chic), with a wonderful tenure of flavor and quality that I keep coming home to. more

Terrible Vegetarian Indian Food. ***VEGETARIANS BEWARE*** 1/29/2010

We dined here for family dinner. Me and my girlfriend are both Vegetarians and Eat a lot of Indian food. As for The Vegetarian Cuisine at Saffron Grill, the food was lifeless, practically flavorless and the three vegetarian dishes we had all tasted exactly the same with small additions like green peppers or mangoes. To top it off, We are almost certain that the Vegetarian Pakoras contained some sort of fish (Biting into the pakoras tasted like a little fish fillet). Possibly contained Fish oil or was fried in the same Oil as their Fish and Chips. ***Vegetarians Beware*** If you truly enjoy Indian food and have dined at other Indian restaurants you would most likely prefer the Maharaja in West Seattle (By far the best Indian food I've found in the Seattle area as of yet, and I've ate at approximately 20 Indian restaurants so I do give other restaurants a chance). Also the Taj Palace in Bellevue has AMAZING Aloo Ghobi. Just Remember that there are options over this EXTREMELY americanized Indian Food. The service was excellent so I had to give them atleast one star, I'm just hoping this Review saves some like minded Vegetarians from a terrible dining experience. Pros: Great Service Cons: The Food. more

Great Indian/Mediteranean 10/13/2009

A friend has been raving about the place. Looks smart outside & inside. We were greeted by the owner. Friendly service. Started with a sampler plate of Bab Ganouj, Hummus, Grape Leaves and Falafel, salad & pita breat. The Baba Ganouj was fantastic - a delicate smokey flavor. Main courses Shish Tawook - a skewer of 5 pieces of chicken & peppers on a bed of rice with some veggies, & more Falafel (which went home). Deserts yummie & bottomless chai tea.. Pros: Wonderful food in a nice setting more

Great Indian Food 6/30/2009

Fabulous tandoori food as well as curries. And there is a large section of Indian vegetarian dishes. I did not try the Mediterranean section of the menu. I've eaten here eight times in a row (since I was staying at a nearby hotel), each time trying a different dish. Everything I've tried has been top-notch. The tandoori scallops are my favorite so far. Absolutely delicious. I was surprised by the relatively rare one and two-star scores for this place. So I read them and feel I need to respond. First, the constantly ringing bell issue from javachix has been fixed. I've never heard the cook's bell ring more than twice in a row. The owner seems to have read that review and put a stop to it. But as any restaurant people would know, the first priority in a restaurant is to get food from the kitchen to the customer as fast as possible. Second, most of the poor reviews had something to do with the owner's relationship with the staff being contentious. I've never witnessed that in my eight visits. Again, I think the owner is responding to the reviews that are posted here - or has at least mellowed out. I don't have any experience with using coupons so I can't address that comment by northseattlegirl. The late-night issue seems to be a case of this website having posted the wrong hours (until midnight). It's open until 10 and that's what their door sign says. Pros: Great food, excellent service, reasonable prices Cons: ??? more

Best Indian Food in Seattle 6/26/2009

I have been going to Muhammed's restaurants for many years and his newest one, Saffron Grill on Northgate Way, soothes my senses with its beautiful decor and the lingering scents of delectable Indian cuisine. If you love chai, as I do, I can guarantee that this will be some of the very best you will ever drink! If you love Indian food, as I do, I can recommend everything! Don't forget to try the garlic and spinach naans, yum. Also, just for the record, Muhammed treats me with so much respect and love that I think of him as my brother! Pros: Food, Service, Decor, Parking more

Excellent home made food 6/17/2009

So delicious, and the butter chicken melts in your mouth. The cocktails are good. The owner Muhamed is very nice, he seems to have some interesting reviews here, not sure why that would be. Just a sweet older man who takes pride in his restaurant Pros: Best butter chicken more

Nice place, great food 5/31/2009

I am shocked to read these reviews about the owner because I just made my fifth trip today in the last six months and have never witnessed the owner yelling at or belittling his staff. What I have been met with is a clean and tidy restaurant, with great food and a friendly, courteous staff. The food, in particular the Middle Eastern cuisine, is just delicious. The Indian fare is also very good, with the Naan bread coming out piping hot and the food being very fresh. I have had several different plates here already and have never been disappointed.\r \r The desserts and drinks are very good as well, and there is a large portion on vegetarian items on the menu. I am not a vegetarian but I have tried the veggie stuff on the menu and it is very tasty and full of flavor and very satisfying.\r \r The waitstaff is efficient, friendly and know the items on the menu well enough to explain them to those who are trying Middle Eastern or Indian food for the first time.\r \r I highly recommend this place - we keep going back because its really good. See for yourself and I don't think you will be disappointed. Pros: Great food, clean atmosphere, nice staff Cons: Its in Northgate (far from where I live) more

closest to heaven!! 3/15/2009

This is the place you can get closest to heaven for Indian food. Today my husband , son and I went for dinner and were greeted by the owner himself! He asked us to be seated on table 8 and saw to it we were served. The enterie was super and so was the food! Why while we were waiting for the food to arrive he sent us a complementary enterie!! The food was finger licking good! We are from Indias and were thrilled to have such authentic food in Northgate. So proud to be from India! Keep up the great work! Vasanti Pros: best food and service and ambience Cons: want to come back every meal!!! more

Whats up with the bell? 3/7/2009

My girl friends and I all wanted to meet Friday for a drink. We all live somewhat closet to Saffron so we decided to try it. We sat in the bar and ordered drinks and appetizers. The Mazza plate is very tasty and their Margaritas are really quite good, the waiter was very attentive..We couldnt help but notice a constant ongoing, never ending ringing of a bell in the background. It was as if someone was pounding over and over again upon it. We asked our waiter about it. Apparently its the Cook. He bangs on it repeatedly every time an order comes up..and not just once.. He pounds on it until the wait person picks up the plate. So this could be a while if the waiter is on the floor with another table..and there are alot of orders that were coming up! This went on non-stop for hours.. We pleaded with the waiter, He said he gets many complaints and there is nothing he can do. We asked another waiter who walked by, he said hed be happy if we went back into the kitchen and try to take the bell away from the cook.. Apparently its an issue with the staff as well as the customers.\r We told our waiter that this was unfortunate because the food and drinks were good, but we all had developed a twitch and a headache due to the incessant ringing, and would not be returning.\r My advise would be that if you do go to Saffron, sit as far away from the kitchen as you can! Pros: Good Food. Good Drinks. Attentive Staff. Cons: The constant bell ringing from the kitchen more

This Restaurant Is My New Favorite! We Had a Great Experience 2/24/2009

We visited the Saffron Grill for the first time tonight, and are so glad that we did. The service was super friendly, high-class feeling and the food was PHENOMENAL!!! In the words of rapper McLyte, this place ""Rocks the party that rocks the body""!! :) \r \r For the best combination of Indian and Mediterranean food, I would go here in a heartbeat. more

Bad ownership means a waste of a nice place 2/8/2009

We have eaten at the Saffron Grill for the last time. The owner, Muhammed, is ever-present and a big drawback to the whole experience. He yells at and embarrasses the staff, argues with customers and talks down to customers and spoils the whole experience. The two couples next to us had coupons from Val-Pac. He would not allow them to use them even tho' they had asked in advance about it and asked for separate checks. They were noticeably upset when the answer came that they were allowed only one per table (it didn't state that on the coupon). He yelled at the waiter in front of them for his part in trying to accomodate them. We used a Passport card. The owner said that $10 was the max. discount but the Passport deal is one free entree. He argued with us and would not budge, just like the other table. In both cases he said that the computer would take only one $10 discount per table. What a flimsy excuse for treating customers so poorly. Then he snapped at our waiter for calling him over. It was an uncomfortable embarrassment for all except Muhammed, who got his $$ this time but lost several customers.\r We would like to visit this newly remodeled neighborhood place often, but it's not going to happen Pros: food is good but predictable Cons: Muhammed, the owner more
