Editorial review from Citysearch 6/26/2013

I researched many shops before going with Sacred. The shop itself has an awesome ""feel"" with the attached art gallery and overall layout. The customer service is fantastic. Kevin responded to my emails immediately. Everyone in the shop is friendly and makes you feel welcome. I had my first session with Rods to cover a tattoo I got 30 years ago. (yep, I'm a older guy). The work Rods did is top notch. I can't wait to go back for second session. I highly recommend Sacred. more

Go See Nick 10/5/2012

9/2011This review is for Nick at Sacred Tattoo. Nick has tattooed me three times so far. I followed him to Sacred from his previous shop. He is professional in both demeanor and technique.\r In my case he creates my tattoo from photos i have taken in nature. His eye for color and form is great.\r Although we live in Hawaii I always plan to see Nick when we come to the city.\r \r Update 10/2012\r Nick is now working on a backpiece for me. I gave him the elements I wanted and he is free handing the design. Looks good so far. Not finished yet. I have confidence in Nick which is why we returned to him. more

Started at Wooster Social Club ended up at SACRED TATTOO! 7/2/2011

Went over to Social Club because I work down the block and assumed the best artists must be there because of the tv show. Showed the picture I wanted tattooed and I felt I was sold really hard. The guy at the front desk gave me a quick quote and I felt like I wasn't really being heard or catered to. Figured if Im about to spend almost a G that I should get to ask more questions. Didn't feel there was any room for that. Someone told me about Jon Mesa over at Sacred Tattoo. I met him and not only is he a cutie pie and super laid back, he listened to my concerns (I'm a dark skinned black woman that wanted color in my tat. He gently explained that artistically it wouldnt be as vibrant as i wanted. Truthfully so did the guy at Wooster but when he said it it felt so final. Jon listened as I asked many questions. Then he said the words I needed to hear- he understood what i wanted, he promised to make the piece pretty and romantic! SOLD! My money goes to Jon. Started my tat this past Friday, I was offered a snack, joked with the guy at the desk. I was a bit impatient but Jon calmly did my tat. I finish next 2 weeks and I want to get more. I stayed till after closing and they didnt rush me out. They make me want to hang out there. It was so chill. I'm a Sacred Tattoo fan! more

best tattoo 11/4/2010

This is the best place for full sleeves and full back work. My friend got one sleeve here and then came back the next month for the other. He was just planning on having one but they made it so comfortable for him, and he was so happy with the look of it that he had the other done as well. I have gone to them for a lower back piece I am having done, I still have to get it finished but that's on me because of my schedule, not anything to do with them. They make the experience as painless as possible and their aesthetics are superior. No trashy miami stamps here. Recommended. more

The BEST place for any mods! 5/3/2010

These guys are just the best. They employ only the best, I trust everyone that works there. I have gotten a lot of important major work done by artists there, and I can say with total confidence that I recommend them to anyone for any thing they offer! They are great! and the people are warm and friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxed, they are extremely clean and hold themselves to very high standards. They exceed all expectations, really fantastic people, and a wonderful shop! Pros: They only hire the best and are complete professionals. Cons: uhm... the building isn't pretty? there are no cons. ;P more

Good times, great tattoo 2/16/2010

Came here for my fourth tattoo, got the last one from Bowery Tattoo before it closed and reopened here. I spoke to Kevin on the phone a few days prior and explained what I wanted. He told me to come in and they could help draw something since I couldn't find the cowboy boot I wanted. My indecision made way to a lot of laughs with Kevin and Matt, but in the end we nailed it. Quick, not too painful, good music, good vibe and lots of joking around made this a great experience. Will be back! Pros: Super friendly, funny staff more

Great experience 2/6/2010

I got my first tattoo here nearly 10 years ago, and went back for a 2nd recently. The front desk guy was great (sorry, forgot his name) and helpful; and Shey is a great artist. Despite my design being totally different from the genre that he specializes in, he really nailed it. It was exactly what I wanted. Sacred is clean & professional, the service is great, and the price is right, too. more

Diamond in the rough 11/17/2009

We were in NYC on a weekend vacation. We initially walked in to get out of the pouring rain. The shop was very clean and spacious. The front desk was very pleasant. We looked through the artists portfolios. All of them had very nice work. The last one belonged to Shey. I was unable to speak with him as he was busy tattooing. I returned later that night to speak with him and had nothing but good vibes from him and the shop. I returned the following day. I should mention that they opened the shop an hour and a half early to accomodate my schedule. If you go to there website, you can find my tattoo under Shey portfolio - joker. I have many tattoos and this one is by far my favorite. Not many artist can do portraits, but Shey is amazing. I highly recommend this shop for anyone looking to get a tattoo. I will definitely be returning, all the way from Ft. Lauderdale! Pros: Cleanliness, location, friendly, accomodating Cons: none noted more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!....doesn't matter if it's your first tat or your 20th lol....the artists are amazing, very professional, they listen, it's clean and the environment is great. My guy is Lalo and he's awesome. I recommend him all the time to friends thinking about getting tats. He's very helpful and his work is amazing! I got my first tat here about a year and a half ago and today I was suppose to be doing two but I decided to do one today and I'm going for the next tomorrow! I'm so excited!.....and people kill me when they complain about prices...I mean come on it's in the city for one thing and two they are extremely talented and experienced artists AND it's something that will be on your body for the rest of your life!!!!! so why not?! If I could give this place 10 stars I would!! I would never go anywhere else... =) more

Sacred Tattoo; Best of NYC! 7/1/2009

I came into your shop back in mach of 09' and was just a walk in. I was impressed by the cleanliness and professionalism of your parlor. Kevin and Matt were the most curtious guys I've ever encountered in my whole tattoo experience. I've been getting tatts since 1982, and you all are by far the best. Matt did two memorial peices on my forearms, commemorating the passing of both my Mother and Husband. He took his time to get them perfect. He is an extraordinary artist and since then, I have recommended him, and the studio, to many admirers. SACRED is now the only studio I will get my work done. (unless of course I run into HANKY PANKY IN AMSTERAM!! JJ!) Cheers to you all and I hope that SACRED continues to be top of the line!! wicked art 6/29/2009

I'm having my leg piece done at sacred and i've yet to be disappointed. the place is really clean with a welcoming feel, everyone i've met so far has been nice and professional, not to mention the fact the artists are top notch! definitely one of the better shops in NY. i highly recommend checking it out. Pros: Clean, friendly, amazing artists more

Best place I've been to. And I've seen plenty. 12/20/2008

Really great spot to go to. My first tattoo (first mistake) was done by some other artist elsewhere. I went to Matt who did a great cover up for me and I will go to him from here on in. Really clean and respectful environment. Everyone is highly talented and they know what they are doing. You wont walk out with some freakish blob that you'll regret for the rest of your life I've already gone back to him once more and plan to return in a few months. You might have to shell out some dollars but trust me I wish I would have gone to him first to get it right rather than listen to my dumba$$ friends that suggested I go for some $50 con-artist. But if you do your research you will find that the prices are in line with what many reputable artists charge. Pros: Talented artist who do great custom work. more

Killer Koi 12/7/2008

Yo Matt!\r \r Thanks for the killer koi tattoo. The colors are perfect and what a light hand!\r Can't wait to come back for some more ink! Pros: Great tattoo work more

Just keeps getting better and better.... 12/4/2008

I've been tattooed at Sacred over the past few years and have to say I LOVE the vibe of the new Sacred Location.
\r This time around I got tattooed by Picasso. All I can say is WOW! I'll be coming back for more work.\r
\r The new staff is super friendly and they even brought back the manager from the old location. I think his name was Kevin. I remember this guy because we both have the same last name. LOL\r
\r Take the time and check this shop out. It's so worth walking up 1 flight of stairs. Pros: Great work, huge shop Cons: Not located on the ground level. (Not like thats really a bad thing) more

awesome. great people, atmosphere and creativity. Highly recommend. awesome awesome awesome. I love my tattoo! more

Nice art, bitchy desk help 3/24/2008

I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the girl at the desk. She's got an attitude and if the artist I ended up speaking to wasn't such a solid guy I would have passed. If I'm looking for an artist to put something on me permanently and drop close to $1000 on the experience (I want a full sleeve), don't give me some inexperienced self-important teenager with a blank stare at the front desk. The artists are great, the space is nice and clean. Pros: Nice space, good artists, clean, reasonable Cons: Desk girl more

real art for real arms! 2/20/2008

great space, great artists, great vibes. got my tattoo from lalo and i couldn't be happier, a real piece of artwork !! and the counter girl is super friendly and pleasant so I don't know what that negative review is about never sensed any attitude from anyone at sacred tattoo. highly recommended great art from great artists!! Pros: great space great artists great vibes amazing tattoos Cons: none that i can see!! more

I must argue the last review...Sacred Tattoo has a long history 2/13/2008

Sacred Tattoo has been around for so long. It has always been a reputable tattoo studio. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. We all have bad days...give the girl a break. The studio is beautiful and the artists talented. You be the judge, I highly recommend Sacred Tattoo! Pros: beautiful space, friendly staff and artists Cons: can't think of any more

Sacred Tattoo AVOID AVOID 11/26/2007

Pretentious, snotty. I walked in and the recpetionist was rude and obnoxious. She was sucking on fruit and kept on sucking on it right in my face, rolling her eyes and being deliberately snotty. She was unwelcoming, didn't say hello and seemed unwilling to speak to me at all. I had a flower on my shirt, maybe I failed her fashion code. \r Avoid this place. There are many many tattoo parlors in New York with very talented artists. There is no reason to put up with elitist attitudes and disrespect. Unless you're a full on masochist that enjoys being treated badly and feels that enhances your tattoo experience. Personally I do not. Confident professionals don't behave like this. Insecure posers do and who wants an insecure poser to permanently ink your skin. Pros: nice space Cons: snotty, elitist, sneering receptionist more
