Editorial review from Citysearch 3/9/2013

Items can be sometimes difficult to find, as there ia a lot of inventory. If looking for something in particular ask Sean or the other ladies, who always seems to be able to find whatever you need. Most of the items and books are RC, although there is a small selection of Orthodox, and a few secular books. My experience has been that they are always cordial to friendly, helpful, and courteous. more

A great resource 7/8/2011

I've been here several times over the past ten years, and found a book (or books!) I wanted for a great price each time. The women who run it are always helpful. They can be a little starchy sometimes, especially when they're busy, but not in a way that anyone should find offensive. I've seen them show great patience and kindness to some really odd or difficult customers. One warning: The store is very crowded with books and not completely organized, so plan on a little extra time, whether you're looking for something in particular or just browsing. more

The two ladies are rude. 4/29/2010

My friend and I went into the store to check things out. My friend had never been there. He made the mistake of starting a conversation, with the ladies. In my view his was polite they were very rude. They treated him rudely and we were forced to leave abruptly. Neither of these two ladies are nuns. One wears a form of a habit I guess. She claimed to be Jewish. With the internet now available for books I would prefer to go there than this book store. Pros: One of a few Catholic book stores around Cons: Rude customer serivice more

None Better 11/11/2008

I have only been in this store three times, and the nuns already know me by name. They really care about their customers, and they will go the extra mile to satisfy your needs. As for rude comments, no. They have never said anything rude to me or any of the members of my family. Great store. Pros: Knowledgable staff, huge variety of items, very welcoming feeling, great prices Cons: a little disorganized more

Fun, knowledgable and comprehensive... 8/16/2008

\r My experience in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Store (and how can you top a name like that?) was a treat.\r On walking in, the Nun who keeps the store and a customer (he seemed a regular from their conversation) were on their hands and knees looking for a Thomas Merton book (the bookshelf with the aesthetics were on the floor).\r A few jokes, a promise to sing with her next time he came into the store, the customer left and my husband and I had the undivided, but not overbearing, attention of the Sister...she knew where everything was, explained the book arrangement and was very helpful in choosing gifts for particular family members...\r This store has it all: medals, rosaries, crosses and crucifixes, books from childrens' saints' Golden books to a whole shelf of Jesuit materials.\r The Sister was affable, helpful and our half hour shopping there was a positive experience all around, right down to her ""God bless you!"" as we went out the door. Pros: on-street parking good, ambience comforting, ask the Sister about singing Cons: a bit jumbling of merchandise, but the Sister knew where everything was more

Rude service 1/13/2008

It seems that no matter how many times I have been in there over the years or how many hundreds (my banker husband insists thousands, of dollars I have spent, there is something that happens that is an inconvenience to them. I have heard ""MM"" admonish a priest who accompanied me in to the store-that he did not have his cleric on. I am a Hospice nurse. I saw a sign that said ,""free scapulars"". When I gently asked MM about these- she snipped ""you didn't see that .....those are 1.50 or so. I did see the sign written per the Carmelite sisters asking that they (the scapulars) be distributed. I was admonished for giving a homeless man cash who was outside of the store.. MM said that this this would cause problems for her business. I have been quiet, tried to stay humble........but I cannot go back. I am sad about this as I am in constant need of sacramentals. I could go on and on but I'll stop here. Let us just pray that love and understanding and forgiveness will prevail on all sides. Pros: many older periodicals and out of date books. beautiful older medals! Cons: a feeling of being hurried. rude comments made-many have witnessed this more
