Love the Experience 10/31/2010

My husband and I go to Ruth's Chris once overy 2 months and are never dissapointed. The atmosphere is the best and the steaks are better. more

Absolutely delicious! 10/11/2010

My husband took me there for my birthday, and the meal was perfect. The steaks were phenomenal, and so hot and juicy. The service was very attentive and I was very pleased with the whole experience. I also had a pomegranate martini, and they really knock you on your butt, so only have one or two. I had three! Well, it was my birthday after all. This place is a great place for a celebration. I'm going on my birthday next year for sure. more

Favorite Restaurant EVER! 1/20/2010

I go every year, several times a year, because I cannot get enough. The steaks are perfect, the sweet potato casserole is to die for, & they have the best ranch dressing in the world. Pros: Amazing food, great service, worth every penny! more

Great Steakhouse 7/13/2009

Very nice experience 2/27/2009

My husband and I went to Ruth Chris' for Valentines dinner and had an overall very nice experience. We sat at the bar for an hour (yummy chocolate martinis) before dinner. I had the Filet and he had the Cowboy Ribeye. We were both very happy with our dinners and had a wonderful server whose name escapes me at the moment. This was our first visit to Ruth Chris and I am sure we will be back. The overall bill with our bar tab was quite pricey, but worth it for a wonderful evening in our opinion. As much as I enjoyed dining here I would still have to give the upper hand to The Capital Grille. This is my favorite of all the steakhouses in Pittsburgh. more

The last high end steak house in Pittsburgh I had yet to visit. I unknowingly saved the best for last. 11/30/2008

Thumb's down 6/18/2008

I was EXTREMELY disappointed with our visit to this restaurant. Everyone had talked it up, claiming it to be the best steakhouse in the 'Burgh. I disagree completely. I made our reservation online. They ask on there if it's for a special occasion. It was our anniversary dinner. We were greeted and they did say happy anniversary to us, which was nice. But then they seated us in the middle of a bench seat. There was no ambience or privacy. It was our anniversary, so my husband had gotten me a gift. It was really awkward opening it with strangers sitting right next to me. The food was just ok. I expected a lot better for what we paid. I got the NY strip, which is my favorite cut. It didn't have the famous butter on it, I don't know if they just forgot. Then there's the well-advertised hot plate that the steak comes out on. I ordered my steak medium, so I expected some juices to run. But, with the plate being so hot, it kind of cooked the juices to a disgusting gray color. It wasn't very appetizing to see my steak floating in a gray puddle of meat juices. I would much rather go to Mantini's in the South Side for an awesome steak (and for almost half the price). Cons: Ambience, value more

Not a ""Fine dinning experience"" 5/4/2008

Our first experience with RCSH was in Annapolis, MA. It was all you could ask for in fine dinning and more quiet setting, excellent service (pleasant talkative staff) and fine food. This RCSH in PITTS is just that the pitts! The only good thing was the New York Strip steak. It started with the door the greeting staff stay in their little space with the computter, two and three young women. The waiting area was crowded and I had to push my way to these women (even after making eye contact no one came to me) and ask about our reservation, she directed us to the lounge (bar) to wait. This was a smoking area we did not know that and had to move out of the area (in OH there is no smoking anywhere). At our table we were packed in so close you could not help hearing the table next to you. It was so nosiey that you had to shout to be heard by the person across the table from you. I was in a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant the night before that was full but the noise level was nothing compared to RCSH. The side dishes were not prepared the same as in Annapolis, the cream sauce was not thickend properly on my potatoes. This was a disappointment for us and we will not return but go back up the street to The Carlton. Pros: parking across the street Cons: too many seating for the room more

poor service, disgusting food. 10/29/2007

I went there hoping for an exceptional evening. I left more than disgusted. The staff can be downright rude. I had a reservation and still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. No word of apology was given for the delay. Once seated it was another 10 minutes before a waiter appeared and they seemed more interested in other tables around us. I noticed that when a tray of steaks were served to a large tabel that instead of bringing them out on either a larger tray or using 2 servers to help, the actually PILED THE STEAKS ON TOP OF EACH OTHER so that the bottom of the plate was making contact with a steak that was going to be served to someone. This did VERY little for my appetite. The steaks were covered in butter which does nothing for the taste except ADD more grease. In a good steak there is ENOUGH fat to make it taste good. Pros: butter on steak is great if you want a heart attack Cons: poor food+poor service=you do the math more

Highly Recommended! 11/21/2006

I realize it is a chain restaurant, but it is one of Pittsburgh's best restaurants. The steaks are the best in town and worth every penny, the scallop potatoes are so delicious, and the berry cobbler is my personal favorite. Every time my parents come to visit, we go to Ruth's Chris. We have tried MANY restaurants, but since we have discovered Ruth's Chris we don't go anywhere else. more

fillet melts right in your mouth 11/17/2006

love everything from the appetizers to entree to dessert. best filet, best mashed potatoes, broccoli au grautin, best creme brulee and excellent wine list more

You Must GO! 10/1/2006

My husband and I have been to almost every restaurant in the Pittsburgh area. This is by far the best restaurant we have been to so far. Everything was perfect. Our table was very romantic, the wait staff was very attentive and the food was out of this world. We must recommend the following: the sweet potato casserole (which the waitress told us to only order 1 since it is so big). It was one of the best things we have ever tasted. We also had the petite filet which was also too good for words and creme brulee for dessert. Wine list was awesome! Now you might hear how pricey this restaurant is since everything is ala carte but it is well worth the extra money. It is a wonderful place for a special occasion too! Pros: Romantic, Service, Excellent Food more

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT 12/30/2005

We moved here from LA so maybe our expectations are higher than the average customer. The atmosphere was fine and they did have our favorite wine. However, we were truly disappointed with our meal-in taste and presentation. The ""tomato & onion salad"" looked more like a burget set (two sliced unripened tomatoes and a slab of white onion). The crab cakes tasted good but looked like they were pulled out of a freezer. The filet was good but the prime rib was over-cooked (well instead of med-rare). They got it right the 2nd time but it was ""chewy""...and I'm not impressed with the pool of butter that the steaks are served in. You don't need to do that to a great cut of meat. The side dishes were big but not impressive. Bottom line- When serve expensive food, it should look and taste expensive. Don't waste your money. Pros: wine list Cons: presentation is poor, not worth the $ more

""Butter-fried"" not for me... 8/13/2004

Personally, I like to taste my steak melt in my mouth instead of the pool of hot butter it is resting in. The steak was done a perfect med. rare, but the abundance of butter it was served sizzling in did nothing but detract from the fine quality of the beef. I prefer a Morton's filet with a little bernaise anyday. Dessert was tastey, especially for a steakhouse. Personally, Morton's chocolate Godiva cake is much better than any of the Ruth's Chris choices. Overall, if I have to pay for a steak dinner, I would choose Morton's, hands down. Pros: nice atmosphere, variety, large portions more

Perfection 7/18/2004

This is the only steakhouse I visit. Mortons is exceptional, but Ruth's is perfect. Nothing tatses better than a med. rare Ruths filet. I love the service, atmosphere and ability to enjoy myself at the bar. Ruth's also makes a great location for a romantic dinner. Though pricey, you can't find a better value anywhere. Pros: Parking, Value, Taste more

#1???? NOT when I visited 3/11/2004

QUESTION: To be the #1 steakhouse, do you not have to know HOW to cook a steak first? In my visit on 3/13/04 my husband had the ribeye med rare and I ordered Med - Med Well on my Filet. His was more of a Med - med well and mine was BUTTERFLIED and burn to a crisp!!! The server was also MIA at moments when it counted. It was past 9:30 pm when we got our main course and we were hungry so we ate and just wanted to leave in disgust. The bar service(???) was another was another story! Pros: Decor, wine by the bottle Cons: , Bar service, Proper steak tem more

Fabulous! 8/24/2003

This was my first 'steakhouse' that I ever visited, and I was not disappointed! The portions are generous and the drinks are fantastic! I am hooked..... Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: A la carte pricing more

Wow, those are big steaks 5/2/2003

big, juicy steaks that melt in your mouth, huge baked potatoes, and a serving of garlic mashed potatoes that could serve a family of three. Throw in a piece of pecan pie for dessert, and a beautifully romantic, candlelit ambiance, and you have the best place to eat in Pittsburgh. You can even see a few famous people there. When I was there, Dr. Cyril Wecht came in. The surroundings of the other worldy PPG Place adds even more. It looks like Superman's lair. Pros: food, ambiance Cons: expensive more
