Okay, the menu is way too large! I think they need to pare it down quite a bit and just focus on making those items really well. Nice ambiance is nonexistent. It reminded me of...

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/29/2012

DO NOT go to the Athens location of Rusans--HORRIBLE SERVICE, MEDIOCRE FOOD, and INCOMPETENT MANAGERIAL STAFF. Worts customer service I've yet experienced--overcharge me, give me the wrong food, and yet refuse to take care of it because the guy working there wasn't the same guy that took the order when I called in. RIDICULOUS. more

dont go! very awful service and i used to be a server 1/18/2012

The service was horrible! I used to work at a Rusans before and I know what you should and definitely shouldn't do. I went by myself for a quick dinner. Server didnt come to ask me about a drink for 10 minutes. She brought me a water before I even ordered a beverage, so I had that but then, I asked for a sweet tea when she asked my beverage order and NEVER got it. Waited for ever to order food!! She didnt personally bring me the food which is okay since I was at the sushi bar, but she did not ASK me if my food was okay, and never talked to me, so I could not ask for my tea or a STRAW for the water. i was ignored. so at the very end, I had my small empty cup of no WATER which is barely anything with the ice. Tried to flag a manager for 1 water refill. She came after i had been done for a while and asked me if i wanted a box. I said, check please. A few min later she came up; She did not bring me a check, she showed up and said ""your total is 12.50."" Weird right? and I gave her my card. she then came and got my signed bill before i had even left. rude WORST SERVICE EVER more

Consistently Good, Newly Renovated 10/13/2010

Ru San's has been an Atlanta favorite for years, and will all the bad press I'm seeing in these reviews I thought it only right to give my (positive) two cents. The sushi is consistently good, and very reasonably priced. Out of all of the sushi joints in town -- and I've been to plenty -- Ru San's is certainly my go-to. Staff is generally friendly, particularly any of the chefs behind the bar. If they recognize you from a previous visit they'll greet you like royalty, always a nice feeling! I will admit that service occasionally gets backed up on a busy night -- and many nights are busy -- but they are always kind, fair, and ethical. Never once have I been ignored or overcharged (as some reviews here say they have experienced). In truly great news, this location has spent the past several months on almost a complete overhaul of the main dining area, including an extended bar, extra dining tables, and a double-doored entryway to diminish those pesky drafts during cold months. Very nice! Really, this is the best low-key sushi place in the area. If you've had a bad experience in the past, I DARE you to go again! I promise you won't be disappointed twice. more

Worst service ever! 5/13/2010

My friend and I went to Ru-sans Monday around 5:30pm. It was raining out so business was slow. We both ordered an appetizer and a sushi roll. The waiter brought me my appetizer and roll. About 15 minutes later he brought my friend's appetizer. We waited about 25 more minutes and flagged our server dowwn to ask where the other sushi roll was. He said it was coming. Well, it neve came and I was finished w/ my meal. We asked for the check and for the missing roll to be taken off. 15 min later we got the check. Our waters sat empty the entire time and our waiter never checked on us once. If we needed anything we had to flag him down. It wasn't busy at all! I'm never going back. more

Not so hot 3/30/2010

Been here a few times and like their other locations it is so so. Generally pretty crowded and too loud. Food is ok, but prices are high and service is not real important to them. Seems like they figure they have enough notoriety service isn't all that important.... Pros: Sometimes Good Cons: Loud, Service, Prices, Parking more

Overcharged me... 3/20/2010

I'm sorry but this place needs to get a big makeover and quick.\r I went to rusan's about a week ago and the sushi was warm. Now, I may not be a sushi pro but shouldn't sushi be atleast room temperature or cool to the touch?\r But at Rusan's the sushi was warm and it felt really nauseating and uncomfortable to eat.\r On top of that, they overcharged me.\r I clearly wrote a 3 dollar tip for my 21 dollar bill and they charged my card 27.11. Where did the extra 3 dollars and 11 cents come from, who knows?! I did not leave any extra rice (some people on here mentioned that if you don't eat all the rice that comes with the sushi, they overcharge you so we made sure to eat EVERYTHING). \r And I live now where near atlanta (around 30 minutes away ) so I'd be wasting money to drive all the way to Atlanta to argue with them. \r I really hope karma gets back at them.\r Pros: not much... Cons: warm sushi, overcharging more

Is the worst food ever 12/20/2009

SERIOUSLY Food poisoning ! ! DONT EAT HERE ! EVER 12/19/2009

I recently got food poisoning from Rusans in buckhead. 3 of my friends and I all had 2 days of throwing up every 20 minutes and diarrhea non stop for 2 days. Worst pain i have ever been in. The fulton county health inspectors were called out to investigate and found certain foods were too old and not at correct temperatures . In addition 8 other reports were reported the same day for food poisoning at this same rusans. Food poisoning is the result of eating organisms or toxins in contaminated food. Most cases of food poisoning are from common bacteria such as Staphylococcus or E. coli . I WILL NEVER EAT SUSHI AGAIN IN MY LIFE . THIS PLACE IS NASTY AND NOT UP TO CODE ! seriously do not eat here . You may have eaten here before and not had any problems but all it takes is one time to get sick. please take what i say seriously and do not eat here. thank you Pros: DO NOT EAT HERE Cons: DO NOT EAT HERE more

Awesome Super Happy Funtime Fish. Snobs go away! 12/22/2008

I gave this place (either location) 5 stars because for me it is one of the most enjoyable places to go grab a bite, and I always look forward to it. It is by far the most fun restaurant to eat in. And (hold your breath snobs), the sushi rules. Granted, I don't eat the traditional sushi here, when I want cold, raw, mostly flavorless fish, I eat it on business trips to San Francisco or New York. If I want food with awesome flavor and texture, this is the place. \r \r I wouldn't even call it sushi, I'd call it Awesome Super Happy Funtime Fish. It tastes great, the atmosphere is very fun, and the proprietors are exceedingly gracious and hospitable. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, Saki Bombs! Cons: Way too easy to eat (and drink) too much more

VERY AVERAGE 9/4/2008

I was born and raised in Japan so trust me...the sushi here is very average, with average neta (ingredients). Its okay for a quick bite to eat and the price is reasonable, but I wouldnt take anyone here for authentic sushi. Oh yeah, the rice is often undercooked and its not flavored as it should be. For authentic sushi try Sushi Yoko in Norcross. more

Saki Happy Sushi Horny RuSan's Is The Best For Happy & Horny People! 8/23/2008

After reading some of the not-so-complimentary reviews on here, I am shocked and appalled at the fact that Certain people have put this Wonderful Restaurant down. I take clients there all the time, and I have never had a bad experience. Ru San, the owner is a pleasant, generous, sweet man and a true artist both with a knife and a brush. I personally own 2 of his paintings and plan on getting more. \r \r If you're not up for a party and you would rather sip your green tea in a quiet corner booth with a truncated, boring, ""traditional"" (not to mention tasteless!) raw fish menu, then by all means, keep your tight-assed self clear of Ru San's. \r \r If, however, you love sushi with a ton of choices & twists in addition to other excellent non-raw Japanese cookin' - AND you like to actually PARTY!!! - Then, please, come on down & Step to The Ru!! :) \r \r WOO-HOO!!\r Pros: Awesome Food, Total Party Atmosphere, Generous Staff & SAKE!!!!! Cons: None Whatsoever!! more

Sake... Sake.... Sake BOMB!!!*~~~~ 7/2/2008

I come here every week for their all you can eat sushi buffett, I believe they stop at 2:00pm!~ It's features a wide array of choices as far as sushi and at $9 YUMMY... You need to find time and go in there for lunch!!! For those that don't eat sushi, they also have rice/ oriental chicken/ lo mein and assorted non-sushi food.\r \r Dinner: Is a bit different, they don't have the bar but instead they have a sushi list the length of a football field to choose from.... I LOVE Ru Sans~ \r \r This is a loud atmosphere... always pleasant... always fresh!~ VERY TRENDY, without the price tag and designer* food.\r \r Remember you have to order a sake BOMB!~ Oh and definately a fun place to go with friends on your birthday~ Pros: great atmosphere, great food and friendly staff make this my #1 pick for atlanta sushi~ Cons: pppfff, what cons? more

It was straight. 6/19/2008

Took a date there who was from out of town. We discovered it cause we was trying to find our way home from Lenox Mall. Waiter was a little slow but made up for it. Sushi was yummy. Liver, gizzard and some other stuff on the stick was fantastic. Warm saki was delicious. Great location for city view. Patio seating too. Got some booty after eating here. =) Pros: Parking, Sushi, City View Cons: Server kind of sucked. more

a bit of a disappointment 5/30/2008

After being in Atlanta for nearly 2 years and being a fan of sushi, my friends were shocked that I had not been to RuSan's. Curious of the local favorite and the reason for all of the hype, I decided I'd try it for dinner. While I was impressed with the vast selection, I must say that the menu suffers from what I like to call Cheesecake Factory syndrome. Allow me to explain: so concerned with filling book-like menus, these restaurants list a multitude of items but never specialize in anything in particular. What they have in quantity, they sacrifice in quality. While on the subject of quality- never in my 10+ years of eating sushi have I seen a spicy tuna roll smothered with what appeared to be eel sauce. I sampled my friends' roll- thick brown sauce is a good way to visually mask unhealthy looking tuna but the taste was unforgivable. I've heard people rave about the value of the meal there, but my advice is to skip the third sake bomb and use the money to treat yourself to better quality sushi. Pros: parking, funky atmosphere Cons: sushi more

Great Sushi, Great Fun 5/19/2008

Ru San's was my first experience with sushi. I was immediately in love. Granted I get rolls that aren't very sushi-esque (tempura fried cream cheese anyone?), it's a great restaurant. I've since been to many other sushi places all over Atlanta and none can compare for value and variety. Most sushi places have an extremely limited menu, but not Ru San's! It's a little daunting at first, but if you're patient or ask your waiter (radical concept to other reviewers!), you can find what you want.\r \r I find the staff very polite and helpful. I've never had a problem with service. I've gone with large groups, on a date, and just for a night out with some girlfriends. It does attract a lot of college kids (mostly GA Tech and GA State), so if you don't like rowdy groups, I wouldn't recommend it, especially late at night. Pros: Amazing value Cons: Attracts rowdy college kids more

Best sushi buffet imaginable 4/9/2008

Well, the locals know that RuSan's lunchtime sushi buffet is the best deal in town. Ordering off the menu for dinner or lunch, or sampling some of the rolls at lunch, you'll taste some odd combinations on occasion. But that's what makes RuSan's experimentation fun. Love the sea bass yakatori too. Pros: Sushi buffet is the best, Experimental rolls Cons: Experimental rolls more

great experience 3/24/2008

Great atmosphere for a Friday night. Very friendly waiters. Drinks are very good; sushi is only okay, but the lively music, great servers, and fantastic atmosphere make up for it. Definitely go with a group of people. Pros: great drinks, great scene more

Great Sushi in Atlanta 11/8/2007

All of RuSan's restraunts are great. The food, staff, selection, prices are all on time. I have never had a bad experience at RuSan's. He has been treating Atlanta for a long time. His art is good too. Pros: food, people, prices more

Inexpensive Good Sushi Eats 9/9/2007

After reading several reviews for this long time favorite I felt compeled to write my own. While I admit this is not 5 star sushi it is great food. Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the show as well as some extra samples you won't get at your table. This is where I learned to eat sushi it is my favorite. I can afford to eat it several times a week. I suggest Rising Sun Maki , Tuna Ahi Poke and the Tuna Tartar is excellent. Rusan's is your everyday Sushi and definately worth checking out!! The mid-day buffet is a great deal to. Have water and walk out with tip for under $15 Pros: Price Service Atmosphere Value Cons: Not 5 Star Sushi more

if you're funds are low, and you REALLY want sushi! 9/6/2007

I would not recommend this restaurant to beginners. The prices are low, and for good reason. However, if you must go, I recommend the Crunchy Mui Bueno! more
