not your average restaurant in a good way! 1/19/2011

i have spent a lot of time at rumours 12th over the past 5 years. i've seen it grow and become what it is now. its small and intimate, which makes you feel like you're the only one in town that knows about this hidden gem on 12th ave south. the patio is a great place for people watching in the summer. ( and the $5 wines for happy hour dont hurt either) the food is fresh and the menu changes daily. which is good if you like surprises.(i do.) they also have a menu with its regular menu options: cheese plates, appetizers and small plates. i love this place and i can't believe all these bad reviews on here. there is no other place in town like it-not even rumours east. they are original and truly one of a kind. i will be back. more

GREAT place to dine and hang with friends 1/19/2011

One of my absolute ""go to"" places in Nashville. Makes me think of wine bars in Europe. Small portions(cheese plates, hummus, salads etc) or large portions (anything from crab cakes, fish, scallops, mussels...you name it) for food options and everything I have had there is fantastic. The wine list is always a hit with versatile lovely tasting wines. The servers and owners really know their stuff and you can tell they are handpicked for knowledge. They are always ready and willing to make a suggestion and have not failed yet! This is a must visit for fun and great atmosphere with great wine and food to boot! more

Rumours - Great Neighborhood Wine Bar 1/19/2011

Rumours is a great for a date night or girls night. There is a large patio - great for warm weather - and a large wine list. The wine can get expensive but there are some good, reasonably priced choices specials - ask your server. The menu options are limited but delicious. The servers are very friendly and attentive. Rumours is my ""go-to"" restaurant. more

Rumours: Good Wine but server/manager was unprofessional 11/22/2010

I ""booked"" the backroom for a party and was told it would be no problem. Upon arrival, we found that another group had been given the room so we shared it! There was literally no room to turn around. The wine was fine and the chocolate torte was a hit, but despite agreeing to break up the bills at the end of the night we received ONE HUGE BILL with NOTHING ITEMIZED!! I should have insisted that if they couldn't itemize something, we wouldn't pay for it! Furthermore, she (the manager/hostess) included gratuity but then had places asking for additional ""maitre d"" tip, etc. Maybe its a sign of the timeis, but I am getting sick and tired of second rate (or worse) service expecting to be rewarded. I can say that the group was likely the highest earning 20+ group of people they can expect to not see back soon. more

Great cheese plate, not a great place for happy hour. 4/6/2010

I went to Rumours for the first time recently to meet a friend for happy hour on a beautiful day. There were available seats but they are not at all comfortable and our table was wobbly, a problem when glasses of wine were on the table. The table/chair setup wasn't very complementary and I ended up banging my knee on the metal twice and getting little bruises. I was surprised that there was no happy hour promotion or special and I would never go back at that time, because to get the most basic wine for $8 a glass at happy hour isn't a great deal. I did love the cheese plate- four cheeses with bread and crackers and other things. And the wine was good, but I prefer true stemware but they use stemless. It was overall a good place with good service but overpriced for happy hour and they need to improve the patio seating. Pros: Outdoor space, fun crowd Cons: Overpriced with uncomfortable seats on the patio more

Not for anyone even ~slightly~ money conscious 12/13/2008

I love the idea of a great local restaurant where you can enjoy a light dinner and a glass of delicious wine. Rumours is very cozy, in a fabulous location, and offers wonderful food if you are able to spend some cash. This review is based on two glasses of wine and the pizza special. I was pleased with the wine, but try to find a worse $13 six-inch pizza in town! Rumours' pizza is terrible. How can you mess up pizza and charge that much for it? Pros: Great neighborhood hang Cons: Pizza is terrible more

A+ Dining Experience 12/9/2008

Hello Whitney,\r I just had dinner tonight at Rumours on 12th and wanted you to know how truly wonderful it was. Mary Anne Husley is a friend of mine and house sits for my mom and we went in to see her and have dinner. Her trout was divine!\r I am sorry I missed you but just wanted you to know what a lovely evening we had. Our waiter and the bartender were so charming.\r I hope you are well and enjoying the holiday season. \r I miss seeing you.\r Susan Pros: front room ambiance, friendly local atmosphere, price, food quality Cons: back room not as cozy if not full more

Must try cheese plate! Great wine! friendly staff!! 7/15/2008

We truly enjoyed our visit to rumors wine bar. It's a great place to start the night (close to several other area bars), or a great place to spend an evening on the patio sipping wine with friends.\r the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable! The food is fabulous! great great great local hang out. Pros: food, atmosphere, patio, staff, etc. Cons: not open late night. :) more

A Refreshing Experience 3/8/2008

My experiences at the Rumors Wine bar locations have been two of the best in Nashville. The owners make sure that each customer has a unique and exhilarating experience. They have hand picked each staff member with precision. They know their stuff!! \r \r My first visit was to the 12 south location. The food was wonderful, wine?exquisite, atmosphere?cozy, and pricing?moderate. I had great service and overall a wonderful time. Then, once I learned of the grand opening of the new east Nashville location, I decided I MUST check it out. I have to say, I was even more impressed. The location is larger and has a much more grandiose air about it. The color scheme is unbeatable and the tables?unique and impressive. Once again, the food was delicious, great wine selection and different from the 12 south location. My husband and I stayed for hours, enjoying each other's company and chatting with the staff. As I am a newcomer to the world of wine, I was able to try a variety of flavors at the recommendation of our waitress. The bartender was prompt, as well as the kitchen. I will be leaving Nashville soon and Rumors will be greatly missed! more

Fabulous Atmosphere and Great Food! 3/7/2008

This place is very hip and trendy, but still comfortable. The wine list is extensive and the 12th Ave location has some great beer choices as well. The food is always great, and there are always specials that give new choices! Art is everywhere, and the patio makes it a wonderful spot when the weather turns nice. I usually run into someone I know there, and generally meet interesting people there as well! more

Grabby Servers 2/10/2008

I have been on three dates to Rumours in the past month. My first experience was at the 12 South location. Although the server was a bit overzealous, the experience was excellent. The food was great, from flavor to presentation. The scallop special is especially noteworthy. We enjoyed our experience so much, we decided to repeat it the next week. Unfortunately, the 12 South location is not open on Sundays, but luckily (or so we thought), the East Nashville location is. The problem with the East Nashville location is that the servers, for some inexplicable reason, think it is OK to grab food from your ACTIVE plate with their bare hands. Like, for example, you might say, ""This prosciutto tastes strange and is a weird color,"" and your server will say, ""I'm so sorry,"" AND GRAB IT OFF YOUR PLATE WITH HER BARE HANDS. That happened. The following week a DIFFERENT SERVER was helping us and the entrees were delivered while a few crackers and some honey remained on the cheese plate. I said, ""I want to eat those crackers."" She politely said something like, ""Of course,"" and GRABBED THE CRACKERS WITH HER BARE HAND AND PUT THEM ON MY SIDE PLATE. She took the honey. Get it together. more

Fun, quaint and what a cheese plate! 9/9/2007

My boyfriend and I went to Rumours for the first time on Friday night. We arrived about 8, and were unable to sit outside as it was packed. We went inside and sat at the bar, and really enjoyed the whole scene, vibe of the place. Our bartender was really nice, and helpful when asked, but wasn't overly attentive. They were fairly busy, but she should have been able to see when our wine glasses were empty when we were sitting practically in front of her. As mentioned, she was very helpful about the wine and the food menu when we did ask for her help/recommendations. The place was great none the less. We had the cheese plate, which was to die for. How great can a cheese plate be? Well, at Rumours it's fantastic, including the smoked almonds and honey for dipping the triple cream cheese. We also ordered some red pepper tapendade which was great. The Caprese salad was nothing out of the ordinary, but was still very good. The scallops over polenta which were one of the catches of the day were FANTASTIC. The bartender recommended them, and boy was she right. \r They wine menu was extensive and broken down in a way that was easy to find what you wanted. There are a nice variety of every varietal. \r Overall, the place was worth going back to. If you are not able to sit outside, I would recommend sitting at the bar, as you can ask more questions that way, and see the bottles, etc. They food is pretty good, and the portions are adequate. We will definitely be going back. Pros: Really nice wine list and a good choice of light plates to go with Cons: Not super attentive on the service, but not bad either more

A MUST for wine and food lovers!! 7/31/2007

I have been to rumors a few times in the past few weeks, but only for their great wine list and patio atmosphere. Last night, however, I ordered one of their dinner specials and it was amazing! Fresh scallops with a pesto baste, mushrooms, tomatoes, shoestring potatoes and beautifully cooked jasmine rice. The presentation was beautiful and the dish was rich with flavor. I had no idea rumors food was so good! And the entree was only $15! A bargain! They also had a caprese salad my friend had that looked amazing. Not only does rumors have great wine and a super friendly staff, but their food is high end quality for moderate prices. A definite must for wine and food lovers!!!! Pros: Great prices, excellent food, friendly staff, outdoor patio, small and intimate setting Cons: Wine list a little limited...but they have mollydooker! more

quite resturant with an European touch 5/8/2007

This is a good resturant for a quite night with friends and in the summer you can sit outside. Wine and food are just great. Portions are not too big but the flavor is just fantastic. The only con is the price: a dinner with a glass of wine, starter, main, and dessert can go up to 50 dollars (tips included). Pros: Quite and relaxing, very very very good food Cons: expensive more

Cozy hangout with amazing food 9/4/2006

I'm not very knowledgable about wines, but this place seemed to have an extensive list and I certainly enjoyed the wine I ordered. They also have great coffee that they bring out in a coffee press. The atmosphere is artsy, cozy and sophistocated, but unintimidating. You can eat inside or on the patio. The highlight for me was the food. I was there with three other people and we ordered appetizers, three of the specials and dessert. It was all scrumptious! The portions are just the right size - not too huge, but worth the money for sure. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service more

Quite nice. 6/15/2006

I have been a couple of times, once during the week and another on the weekend. We were seated quickly, and servers were right there to spoil us. The food is absolutely great. I also love the extensive wine list. It is a place I know that I will recommend to friends, and enjoy myself many times to come. Pros: Great food, service, and wine list. more

GREAT wine - EXCELLENT food 3/8/2006

This place is a perfect after-work relaxing spot. I can't speak for weekends, but on weekdays there's plenty of room to sit outside or in. It's comfortable and quaint. The staff really knows their wine and we tried a bunch of different glasses - all were wonderful! The prices are fair and the food was great - very, very flavorful. Great place for a date and/or catching up with friends. more

Great wine bar and food! 11/1/2005

One of the neatest, most eclectic places I have been in a long time. Makes me think of New York or Europe!!! Small portions and lovely wine are a great way to spend my evening! I am tired of so many potatoes, mac 'n cheese and meat 'n threes. It is nice to leave a meal without feeling gorged. It is so important for our community to support independent restaurants such as Rumours. There also happens to be a fabulous art gallery and gift shop right next door. I can't think of a better way to get a jump on the holidays! Pros: easy to get to, unique, friendly Cons: wish it was closer to, more steak more

I've never had anything but a great experience! 9/6/2005

I've been to Rumours numerous times and have always had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is incredibly laid back and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The by-the-bottle prices are some of the best in town. Pros: knowledgable staff, excellent wine list more

User review by minakash 8/13/2005

I had perhaps one of the worst restaurant experiences here. I called earlier in the week and spoke with one of the employees over the phone to make reservations. I arrived the night of my reservation to be rudely told they didn't have anything for me and they know that no one called. I was shocked and ready to leave (I had a big party meeting me there). With as much attitude as they could muster, they got me a table and again reminded me that no one called to which I disagreed. The service was horrible, the food not much better and unless someone there takes classes in customer service, I will not return. more
