just really bad sushi 12/7/2009

musluvania's review: i find it odd when a reviewer needs to be insulting to another person to try and validate is own review. you can disagree with their review, no need to get offensive. also interesting is that 3 good reviews for this place came on the same day, same time. hmm, someone making accounts just to boost their overall rating i wonder? i've seen it done before. in any case. if you like sushi, dont come here. if service isnt a top priority for you, this is your place. if you like things like steak, etc, this place is 'OK'. But for the price, your better off going to el torito down the street. Pros: cool looking place Cons: food, service more

edisking is right, kinda 11/30/2009

musluvinia work for rukasu? bet he does lol. anyhow, i've eaten here quiet a few times. im giving it only 2 stars because our meals are inconsistent. i've had edisking's experience as well as very pleasant meals here. i will keep giving it more chances, i just wish it would have great fish EVERY time. i too have been to the best sushi restaurants in japan, frisco, new york and Seattle. this one definitely does not deserve any awards. on the negative, sashimi cuts can be rough and ugly. service is sub par. on the positive, a few inspired dishes. give it a shot! who knows, this average spot might shine for you. Pros: can be ok Cons: inconsistent fish quality, poor service more

regarding Edisking/bikinibabe's review 7/30/2009

Okay, obviously these two freaks are either disgruntled workers or they got fired from Koi or something because they're reviews are obviously ridiculously false, and made up.\r \r I found this restaurant, because I live in the neighborhood, and I thought it would be good to support the restaurant. Well...the food and the fresh fish are SUBLIME. I have been to some of the best sushi bars in Japan, and San Francisco, and here and this place has items that make those other restaurants pale in comparison.\r \r I dare you to go here and order these dishes: Try the tuna with salsa, and then the spicy tuna on sizzling rice cakes, and then, the albacore sprinkled with fried onions on top! Then, if you'd like just ask the waiter what he likes best and if he suggests another dish, go ahead and order it! You won't be disappointed in the least. One night, my party and I couldn't finish all we ordered, and so, unlike I've ever done, I had them wrap them up to go. Sushi the night??? Well, it was almost 95% as good as it was fresh at the restaurant.\r \r And very interesting that you saw the actor who played Dawson come in because one night I was in there I saw him as well, with a party. Apparently, his tastes are as bad as mine are, since the only TWO people who have eaten here and didn't enjoy it, were these two.\r \r I promise you that you will have a wonderful time at this really great sushi bar in the valley. Pros: WONDERFUL SUSHI RESTAURANT more

The service was great. The food was to DIE for... The prices were VERY reasonable (cheap!)You would think you would have to pay $100/plate for the quality of food.\r I will be back time and time again. Thanks for the wonderful experience Rukasu! See you soon! Pros: The Sushi was top notch more

This place really was pretty bad 6/22/2009

i really hope they can turn this around. the decor really is great. maybe they need another year or so to work out the kinx in service and get better suppliers. keep your fingers crossed. Cons: food and service more

What are the othe reviews talking about?! 6/9/2009

The other reviewers have only 1 thing right: the atmosphere. Its great! Rukasu does a great job of setting a romantic mood for a sushi date, but the compliments end there. Beginning with the staff: The hostess didn’t even greet us or cracka smile when we approached. Seemed very bothered. Our waiter was very nice, when he was there. 3 of our sushi orders took 30 minutes to bring out. 30 minutes for 2 pieces of sushi? Come on! And this was around 6pm; the restaurant had opened at 5. It's not like they were busy, it was Friday night and It was EMPTY! Completely ridiculous. We were literally there for 2 hours and had eaten 5 orders of sushi. We had to cancel our last order for taking so long. We were pretty patient the whole time. Without complaining the manager came out and confirmed that it had been 26minutes since we placed our order and agreed it was unacceptable. Gave us 15% off our $120 bill. Woop? Now the food. Miso soup was probably the worst I’ve ever had. Had a very fishy taste, pretty gross actually. The quality of the fish was sub par. Came out very dry and cracked. We ordered nothing but ‘premium’ sushi too. I’d hate to see what the regular tuna comes out like. This is the chef from Koi?? He didn’t do a dam thing to the fish. If I were Koi Restaurant, I’d make the guy to take our name off of this place. Nothing but crappy fish on crappy rice. Not to mention their website claims to also be a sake bar. Lies! All Lies!! Denny’s has a better sake menu! (Asian pear sake was the highlight) OH actually, 1 item on their specialty sushi was pretty good. I don’t recall what it was called, but it was a sashimi dish. It had Jalapenos. Good stuff. I get the impression that Rukasu spent 99% of their budget on an interior designer and forgot to save some cash for menu design or to buy some decent fish. It’s clear that people give good ratings to a restaurant just because there’s nice cars parked out front (emperor’s new clothes syndrome). On that note, we did see Dawson walking in, which my fiancé thought was exciting. No sign of creek. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Food, service, quality, sake more

New favorite Sushi comes to Studio City 4/28/2009

Every dish we ordered was yummy. The snowcrab avocado salad very craveable. Rolls perfect but a little small. eggplant dish fantastic! Wide range of meat and fish items on the menu. Staff friendly and helpful. A little pricey but not outrageous. Fun, clean atmosphere. Wish it had added tofu and noodle dishes. Good place to go with friends for a special occasion. Pros: Walking distance lots of nearby parking(metered) til 12pm Cons: Serving sizes could be a little bigger. Music too loud. more

Perfect for a Date 4/27/2009

Rukasu is destined to be my new go-to sushi place. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with plenty of seating both inside and out . While we had our pick of any table we wanted, we chose to sit at the sushi bar, which was a lot of fun. We had the cream caterpillar, 818 (not on the menu) and baked scalloped rolls and the tartar special. Each dish was interesting and delicious. The entire staff was extremely friendly, especially our server, who gave us some great off the menu suggestions. We paired our meal with a bottle of Midnight Moon sake and some Asahi. I can't wait to go back. more

Beautiful atmosphere, great food! 4/23/2009

I came here with my boyfriend when they first opened and was pleasantly surprised. Finally the ""over the hill"" feel I was looking for but down the street in Studio City. The ambiance is so beautiful and zen, very romantic but I can also see it great for a group of friends. The crab hand roll was great and the spicy tuna on crispy rice and robata skewers delicious. I'll be back! Pros: Sushi, ambiance, patio more
