After reading some so-so reviews in various publications/Web sites, we were dubious about Ruggles, especially on a Saturday night. This first visit was very, very enjoyable, even with the children wandering about the entire restaurant. Our greeter thankfully went out of her way to find us a quiet table. For a starter, I selected the gumbo from the night's specials. It was appropriately-seasoned, with a hint of andouille, seafood and okra, and delicious. We enjoyed a tuna and a snapper entree, each well-presented with a delightful medley of vegetables. The portions were not huge at all but more like tapas servings. Dinner was finished with a shared slice of delicious chocolate cake and coffee. Our server was very friendly and pleasant and part of the experience vs being a distraction. I sincerely hope a bar and grill survives on the west/southwest side of town. The new Hyde Park Grill to the south seems to be thriving. Ruggles should be able to do the same based on good food, a good location, and great, consistent service. We now wish we had visited sooner and will definitely return.
Pros: Food, service, decor, parking, wine list
