Weekend Brunch Menu is great. They have great whole grain muffins and scones to choose from. All their pancakes and waffles have a different special fresh fruit sauce each week...

An Okay Rue 8/21/2005

The Rue, as it is known, has been around for at least 20 years. My husband's parents took him here when he was a Brown student in the 1980s, and they took us and our daughter here for lunch this weekend. The family agrees that the food is good, not great, and the service is very slow and forgetful. For example, our bacon was soggy, perhaps because the waitress had to be reminded three times to bring it. We'll keep going here but we wish both the food and the service would smarten up a bit. more

french food 8/17/2005

first off, i really appreciate how this restaurant is just called "hope street" in french. that said, the food is good, although fairly rich - which is common in french food. it purveys a rather romantic atmosphere. the restaurant also has a nice bar. sunday brunch is quite good - better than the dinner menu. more

Weekend Brunch - Fantastic 7/12/2005

Weekend Brunch Menu is great. They have great whole grain muffins and scones to choose from. All their pancakes and waffles have a different special fresh fruit sauce each weekend. Coffee is great - reservations are recommend. Cozy booths-french bistro atmosphere. I wish they had outdoor dining - it would be a great people watching area. Prices are average breakfast prices more

probably never again will I go here 8/21/2004

I lived 3 houses away from this all summer such that finally I had to go and see what was going on inside. All we had was appetizers and a dessert. Two people had the calamari, I had the spring rolls in kiwi or mango sauce or something like that. And then we had the caramel cheesecake. The cheesecake was very tasty, the calamari was pretty good and the spring rolls were interesting but for the tab, it wasn't enough to be worth it. The calamari could've been better, the spring rolls could have been wrapped in rice paper for less of a expensive-cousin-of-cheap-chinese-takeout feel. Um..on the upside, they brought bread and water promptly. Most of the other customers were old/middle-aged white people so it was a pretty subdued atmosphere. The place has a middle-aged, upper middle class, liberal like genteel old northeast crust-y families are liberal kind of feel. The type of people who are amused by kitschy cute things like oversized forks hanging from the lights--"isn't that quaint, dear?" Basically, the food is tasty but it could be less expensive and more hip. more
