On the snowiest day of the year to date, it was decided by my coworkers & I that we needed to venture out for food. When Chinese was picked as the cuisine of choice, there was no question in their minds where we were about to trek to.
Royal Dynasty is located in BayTowne Plaza, a strip mall off Empire. This is the type of place that makes you think twice before avoiding restaurants in strip malls. I didn’t know it before we arrived, but this place has been voted Best Chinese restaurant for three years running by the Rochester market. I think I can see why.
We were promptly greeted and seated and given menus loaded with lunch specials. The price points were simple: around 6.50 for pork, chicken and vegetarian, and 8.50 for seafood. This included hot tea, choice of soup and an eggroll, along with your entrée and rice.
I chose the spicy beef with wonton soup. I am a fan of spicy and the American palate overall doesn’t seem to embrace spiciness as much as I would like. I am happy to report that it was pretty spicy, although not too much so the dish couldn’t be enjoyed. Heavy on the vegetables and not has much beef as was desired, the dish was still extremely filling. The wonton soup was quite delicious, and I am ashamed to say I never quite got to the egg roll. I was stuffed!
My dining companions had varied choices. One ordered the Twice Cooked Pork, which is also noted as a spicy dish. I had a taste and while it had a kick to it, it wasn’t as spicy as my dish happened to be. Another ordered the Crispy Fish Fillet which was well received. Sesame Chicken rounded out the feast and it was noted that even while fighting a cold, this was incredible tasting chicken.
The service was impeccable and the food came out fast, as it should to please the lunch crowd.
Overall, a great value and meal that I wouldn’t hesitate coming back to!
