Lots of food for little money and good service 7/5/2010

I go here once a week for lunch. I like it because it's quiet and I can bring a book and no one bothers me. I'm not a Chinese (or Taiwanese) food critic. I always get the kung pao chicken and I LOVE it. You get hot tea, rice, entree, egg roll and soup for $5.95. I look forward to Rocking Wok day! Pros: cheap food, quiet atmosphere Cons: not sure how ""authentic"" the menu is more

Getting worse 3/11/2010

Honestly say, after the previous owner sold this restaurant in 2007, their dishes are getting worse, and smaller. I will not going there anymore... furthermore, the current owner's not even a Tawainese. I'd rather go to China Town now. Cons: No good after the previous owner left more

This place is Disgusting!!!! 7/27/2009

My boyfriend and I were excited to find a cute hole in the wall place in the Wallingford neighbord. We were soooo disappointed. We got the Taiwanese meatball, a noodle dish, the duck speciality, and a Taiwanese soda. I've never been so disappointed. We tried all of the dishes but didn't eat more than a couple of bites of everything. We kept a positive attitute and got the left-overs to go. After we left the restaurant, we both admitted we hated that place and threw the leftovers away. Pros: Nothing Cons: Gross food, dirty atmosphere, bad service more

Love. 10/22/2008

If you want authentic Taiwanese cuisine that is delicious, affordable and LOCAL - run, don't walk to the Rocking Wok! The thousand layer pancake is carb-heaven. Obsessed. My husband and I finished off the entire serving by ourselves! I know, I know - mongolian beef is everywhere, but again, I am obsessed. All the dishes we have ever ordered are great. They also do take-out and though we have moved out of the neighborhood, we will gladly drive over to pick up their food! Pros: Always open, always parking more

Authentic and Priced Right! 6/16/2008

My Brother-In-Law lived in Taiwan for two years, and wanted to visit a restaurant with Taiwanese cuisine while he was in Seattle. Rocking Wok was a delightful surprise! Apparently, it is totally authentic. My husband and I have been back numerous times since our first visit, and have never been disappointed. Pros: Delicious Food, Ample Parking, Bargain Priced Cons: Cleanliness more

nasty kitchen.. 6/14/2008

Nom nom nom, but wish there were more vegetarian options 5/4/2008

After everyone was full, I was forced to get another order of thousand-layer pancakes (more like crispy hash browns as bread, or something, but anyway). Scallion pancakes very good. Leek ""pancakes"" so-so in my opinion, and much more empanada than pancake. more

Used to be much better! 3/9/2008

Rocking Wok used to be one of my favorite Asian restaurants. I'm Taiwanese and even brought my parents there who liked it. Then they changed ownership and it's been hit-or-miss since. Sometimes it's great but mostly, it's now so-so. more

Great waiter! Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. 10/26/2006

After reading the reviews I expected good food but poor service by a grumpy waiter. Instead we had good food and GREAT service! The steamed fish (non-menu item) was excellent. Dishes could use less oil. Pros: Great steamed fish Cons: Could use less oil on dishes more

One of the best Taiwanese cruisine in Northwest 9/26/2006

Authentic Taiwanese dishes, resonable price! The owner is nice and friendly. Try their fried rice and side dishes. Will go again! Pros: cheap, authentic Cons: poor interior more

Best Chinese food in Seattle, bar none 8/21/2006

Take it from someone born in Taiwan and raised in Seattle - Rocking Wok has the best Chinese food in Seattle. I've been to virtually every Chinese restaurant in town, from Chinatown to the Northend to the Eastside, and Rocking Wok has the tastiest food as well as Taiwanese specialties that you won't find elsewhere. Pros: Best Chinese food in Seattle, ample parking, friendly owner more

No frills, but authentic. Perhaps too authentic... 7/8/2006

I went with my Taiwanese parents and were impressed by the selection. The owner/server seemed grumpy at first but by the end of the meal i was surprised he was at our table so long chit chatting. Food was good altho I'd hold the sweet sauce on some of the rice appetizers (Pa said it was legit) and ask for more kick in the wonton in chili sauce. the owner seemed open to comments. My take is that he sacrifices service to keep prices low. He should cater to Wallingford. At least parking was a breeze.I'll return to sample more dishes. Pros: Parking, distinctive Cons: Weak AC, understaffed more

Worst customer service 6/12/2006

The food is alright for its price. The service is the worst I have ever experience; it was more like no serivce. I agree with the previous review; take your money elsewhere. You would think someone who seems like they hate people wouldn't start a customer service based business. I won't go there again unless someone pays me to. Pros: Price Cons: Service, Owner, Small place more

Best Taiwanese food in Seattle 11/26/2005

I usually let the owner pick for the table and we've never been disappointed. The food here would be above average for Taiwanese food in LA, but it's hands down the best in Seattle, with a menu that includes dishes that I haven't found anywhere else in the region. Great prices too. The owner is blunt in any language and culture. Personally, I think he's great, and you can get great service if you're willing to play by his rules. Well, maybe not great - this is a hole in the wall that serves good food at cheap prices - but definitely fun. Sometimes, I take matters into my own hands and fill up our tea kettle with hot water. No biggy, it feels like home. And if you can't deal with the service, then just go for the food. Pros: Food, Owner, Service Cons: Owner, Service, Ambiance more

Great food, so-so service 11/9/2005

The food at RW is excellent, love the scallion pancake and the country chicken dish especially. However, most of the time the service is grudging at best, sometimes worse than others. If I crave the food badly enough I go there, but often thinking of the service makes me choose another place instead. Pros: Food, food, food Cons: Service more

Ridiculous service at any price 4/21/2005

Food is decent and is quite authentic Taiwanese food. Unfortunately the service was beyond ridiculous and the attitude I received basically told me to go take my money elsewhere. After tipping heavily, I was told that I would not be helped to a plastic bag and that the server ""can't help you like this, you have got to help yourself"". I was not even presented with a check and I walked to the server to pay my bill. It is not the only place with good food, I will take my money elsewhere and take my friends with me. This kind of place needs to be shut down. Pros: Reasonable food Cons: Extreme poor service more
