Just plain Great 5/13/2011

Well, my AC died. :{ It fought valiantly last summer, coughing and sputtering in its battle with Austin heat. But alas, it fell this Spring. R.I.P. brave rust monster. GOOD NEWS IS: I found River City Mechanical. Absolutely outstanding from beginning to end, which in my case was only three days. I placed a call to RCM late afternoon on a Tuesday and spoke with Stewart McGregor. He came out the next day and laid out my options. He told me that my current HVAC system was indeed deceased (which I assumed). Also, that my ducts were in bad shape. He told me that they might survive another 2 years, but then would have to be replaced. In the mean time, they could patch up the holes and open seems. I opted to have the ducts replaced now, while they were working on the AC hardware. Glad I did. The air flow is far more powerful now. My new ac is also a whole lot quieter. No more adjusting the volume on the stereo or tv when the ac kicks into action. The install team was out the next day (thursday). I was told they would get it all done that day. I did not believe this, as my attic is a real pain (low ceiling and no flooring, just 4X8's). I thought the duct work alone would take longer, even with my small house. Well, indeed, they did it all that day. When I came home from work, the install team was finishing up, and Mr. McGregor was there to go over my new system, including my new filter unit that only needs its filter replaced once per year - sweet. I was enjoying conditioned air that night. Two days after I called River City Mechanical. Three days after my old system died. Rock on. Immediately, I noticed a difference. The new ac cooled my house off in a handful of minutes. It also comes on about one fourth as often as the rust monster did. Mr. McGregor followed up on Friday to make sure my new ac was performing, and if there was anything else he could do for me, or any other questions. I did not need the follow up, but it is always nice to receive. He and the install crew were just plain great guys to have working for me. I 've had the new system for a little over a month now, and I am lovin' it. I am in cool-ness bliss. My electric bill for April 2011 was even 20% lower than last year. I am surprised considering how hot it has been this April/May. But, like I said the new system is obviously much, much more efficient. River CIty Mechanical: two thumbs/horns way up I do not miss the rust monster. more

Just Awesome! 2/22/2011

We had a few AC contractors come out to look at our historic home to see how they could retrofit our house with a new HVAC system. Right from the start, River City was extremely professional and courteous--as well as enthusiastic. Our job presented some challenges being an older home, and some of the other companies who came out to bid didn't want to do the job--and said as much! Not River City. They seemed genuinely excited about designing and installing a system that would work well and fit in with the aesthetics of our home. Then their installation crew arrived, and those guys were awesome! Their attention to detail was superb. They cleaned up after themselves, and left no messes behind. They were hard workers, as well as being polite and kind. The cherry on top was the final walk through with the installation manager. He made sure that everything was perfect and one to his--and our--satisfaction. We were really pleased on every level with River City: sales, installation, and the end product. They also have a 24 hour hotline in case anything ever does go wrong. We highly recommend them! more

Careful, Competent, Efficient, and Focused on Service 1/27/2011

I live in Lockhart and wanted to take advantage of various rebates and tax credits associated with installing more efficient appliances. I also was fed up with the noise level of my 10-year old air conditioning compressor unit located under the window of my study. After a walk-through and several phone calls to answer my many questions, River City Mechanical recommended a dual-fuel heat pump/gas furnace with a two-stage compressor (quiet!) and variable speed blower to better control humidity in hot weather. The installers arrived one December morning, unloaded, went to work, and by dark they were finished - pretty amazing considering the work involved. They were neat, and swept up whatever debris made it to the floor of our house, and also cleaned up the attic area around the furnace. At my request they installed the compressor unit a little further away from my window. The heat pump is ultra quiet. With that and the variable speed blower in the air handler, it is hard to tell that the system is on. (This is a good thing.) There were two minor issues after the installation - a return air duct separating and the outside unit settling a little unevenly in the not-yet packed ground of its new location. The company sent someone out at my convenience and corrected both problems. Another plus with River City is that they fill out the rebate and tax credit forms for you, and make sure the paperwork is complete and correct. I certainly would do business again with River City Mechanical, and recommend the company without reservation. more

Great customer service and friendly staff 6/19/2008

I recently purchased a new unit from this company and have had no troubles. They where prompt and very helping in explaining how everything works. I highly recommend this company to anyone. The office staff was very nice and helpful in setting things up! Pros: Large company, handles new home builders so their prices are very, very fair! Cons: I have no cons about this company, all was good more

No Service after the sale 8/13/2007

I did not believe that any company could have customer service this bad. When they arrived, I had 2 of my 3 AC units working fine and one not working very good at all, but it was working. When they got done, I had one system running properly and one cooling to 81 degrees (cooling and 81 degrees in the same sentence !!). The tech said they needed parts and someone would contact me on Monday (yeah it was over a weekend). I called 3x on Monday and no one would call me back. If you are looking for a company that has good customer service, look elsewhere. Pros: Larger comapny Cons: No web site, no service, no return calls more
