In 40 years of having pets and therefore having the pet/vet experience, I can honestly say this is the WORST vet clinic I've ever experienced. I am so angry at myself for bringing my cat there! My hubby and I had to take a 5-day work trip, so we boarded our 1.5 year old cat here. We also asked them to give our cat his rabies vac, and other shots needed annually. We also asked them to give him a general health checkup since he was there, and finally, asked that their groomer give his nails a clip. When we dropped our cat off, we brought one of his blankets he likes to sleep on, and one of his own toys, to help him feel some of home there. Our cat was very healthy, happy, well groomed (had just given him his monthly spa bath the day before) and loving when we dropped him off. When we picked him up 5 days later, he was listless, slight temperature, and sneezing a lot, and he stunk like he had been living in a pile of cow manure while there. Literally, he stunk badly like a cow patty. He had lost weight (3.5 lbs) while there, for which the clinic didn't have an answer. When asked why he stunk so badly, they said he had been sleeping in his litter box the whole time, like he was trying to ""hide from us"". First of all, litter doesn't smell like cow manure, so that doesn't accout for the smell. Second, our cat has never done anything like that when boarded before, and he loves to be around people and other animals don't bother him. Third, the clinic couldn't care less about returning our beloved pet to us smelling like he did. Not even an ""I'm sorry"" or offer to give him a bath... just no caring whatsoever. They actually wouldn't even acknowledge how bad he smelled, although everyone else outside the clinic did. Our friends, family, neighbors, and our regular groomer all noticed the smell and commented on it, and on how listless and sad he seemed. That and that he was sneezing so much. To try to shorten the story, after a couple of phone calls back to Rio Bravo Vet Clinic during which they tried to tell us nothing was wrong with him, and his health checkups showed him in good health, we had to take our cat back there and have them examine him again at no cost for the re-exam. This time, they told us that he ""probably"" has a virus, and that he had an impacted tooth that needed to be pulled. When asked why this wasn't mentioned when we picked him up, they said they didn't notice it! So they wrote prescriptions and left it at that. We did not fill the prescriptions, as we intended to have a second and/or third opinion from other vets. Still no believable explanation about the cow manure smell. The next day we took our cat to 2 other vets to have him checked, and both the other vets agreed that there was nothing wrong with our cat's teeth, that in fact the gums and teeth were in good condition. And they said he had a chest cold, with slight temp, for which they gave him a shot and a prescription which we need to administer twice a day for a few days. That was yesterday, and our cat is already feeling better, and I have no doubt by the time his prescription is used up, he'll be just fine. As for Rio Bravo Vet Clinic, I would never recommend them, as I have serious doubts about the cleanliness of their boarding area, and therefore the clinic as a whole, and there was a very real lack of caring about our pet's health and well-being. And their ability to give a sound, trained, educated health exam/diagnosis was non-existent in our case. And to suggest a procedure (tooth removal) not needed at all makes me wonder if they're in business to provide health care for animals or to make money with unnecessary procedures. When I think of what our cat must have gone thru during his time with them... it brings tears to my eyes. Yes, I can understand why he might have wanted to 'hide from' them. Horrible, horrible clinic. Dr. Stone and Dr. Slack should be ashamed.
