interesting exhibits 8/19/2005

as a student at rice university, i've seen a lot of the rice university art gallery and the exhibits move through. a lot of them are very interesting but the art gallery is not very big otherwise. exhibits are often large art pieces. i'm not a big art fan so i am not very qualified. but for what it's worth, the exhibits are nice to see. more

Rice Gallery is recognized for dynamic site-specific installation art. The gallery commissions artists to create installations that transform the exhibition space. Rice Gallery's adventurous and interdisciplinary programming communicates new ways of thinking about art, and is a catalyst for the free and lively exchange of ideas among artists, the university, and the community at large. This place is extremely dynamic and fun. They have a lot of resources to work with so check it out. more

A Little Eclectic 8/15/2005

Rice University Art Gallery hosts a collection of contemporary art. The art is usually created on site by visiting artists or current art students. The pieces are for sale and can be purchased for quite a bargain. As usual, the beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder and I have seen some really great pieces for under $500 but I have also seen some real crap that you could not pay me to take home much less display. It is a small gallery but well worth a trip if you are on campus. I do not think it is open on the weekends. more
